For anyone reading this: I know that dog training can be difficult sometimes, but you're doing great. Keep up the good work, and your dog (and your own sanity) will thank you for it! ❤️💕

Thank you for sharing! Luckily, I had a very smart dachshund over 20 years ago. He understood 3 languages and lots of sign languages. We built up the signs gradually. Gradually, we communicate silently. He was smart, obedient, quiet and always waiting for commands. Many breeders described dachshund as stubborn. Ours was very smart, fast learning and obedient! So we gave him lots of commands, including SIT DOWN, LAY DOWN, BE QUIET, etc. We didn't punish him physically; however, we reinforced NO or NO GOOD to correct his mistakes. Vise versa, we praised him GOOD BOY when he did well! He learned very fast. He can learn a phrase or a sign in about 3 tryouts! I think patience, consistency and positive reinforcement are the key important factors🎉🎉🎉

Love the comment about using an umbrella - brilliant. We pick up our little fella on Sunday, and he will be 9 weeks old. Glad I,stumbled on this excellent video, and I’d just like to say thank you for taking the time to make such an informative aid.

I’m excited to get our little lady in a week or two🥰 I’ve ordered the bell and we have a wonderful fenced 1/2 acre for her to roam, my husband will be making sure the fence is secure and I will be buying a ramp since I realize their back issue.this pup will not be eating store bought food , to many issues there. I look forward to watching all your teaching videos👏🥰 I know the breed and am ready to get started,

Quick question about the crate: should we always keep the puppy inside the crate and only take them out for toilet break?
@monicachampion4895 Жыл бұрын
When taking them out every 30 minutes , how long are you staying outside for? I have a 15 wk mini that I’ve had for a week and I can spend 15-20 minutes outside knowing he has to go but he will hold it until he comes back in. Then I do take him back out again. But even then, how long should he stay out for?
@sweetdaisydachshund Жыл бұрын
I would recommend about 10 minutes outside when you go every 30 minutes otherwise they take it as a playtime in the garden. If you know your puppy needs to go and he/she doesn’t then put them in a playpen and try again in about 10 minutes. They will have accidents in the playpen to start with but your puppy will eventually get it. It is time consuming to be consistent with this but it does pay off! :-)
@sweetdaisydachshund Жыл бұрын
Also, if he holds it and then does it inside, it sounds to me like he needs a more rewarding incentive for going outside. Maybe a higher reward treat and also go crazy with the praise! Your neighbours might think you have gone mad but it will help your puppy understand if they go outside there will be lots of excitement, cuddles and a tasty treat. The more often this happens the better your puppy will get at it. :-)

Stay out until he uses the bathroom. Dont bring him in until he goes.

What if my dauschund won’t go outside and has gotten used to going on her pads?
@xobelladonna244310 ай бұрын
@@chrisw8201 everytime she goes to go on the pads pick her up and put her outside. Dont give her a choice about going outside. Just keep doing it. Dont bring her in until she goes outside. Retrain as if she was a brand new. Reward with treats and praise and attention when going outside but don’t when going on the pads. Be consistent. She’ll want to go outside so she’ll get the special treats. Save treats for ONLY outside. Going on the pads inside makes the house smell sooooooooo bad even if you think you discard them fast enough. The smell will linger in the air, on furniture, in the floors,walls. It’s a really awful habit I would never ever ever make the mistake of making again lol

Is there a version that’s a little lower effort? And what if I don’t have a place to take her until she’s 16 weeks and will not be fully vaccinated until then? Hoping she will unlearn going inside

I’m getting a dachshund in about 2 weeks. Your video was very informative. I’ll try your tips. I have a question; my bedroom is on the 3 rd floor of my house; I was wondering if at night or any time we’re up there should I carry outside to pee or let her walk down with me. I don’t want her to pee while we are making our way down. Thanks

Hi Dana, apologies for the late reply! Had to take a break due to personal reasons but Daisy and I are back now! :-) I suspect your puppy is potty trained by now but if you are still looking for help then please do get in touch! :-)

The problem I have is I take my puppy out and all she wants to do is play. She eats acorns and rabbit poo. She lays in the sun and chews twigs. She chases grasshoppers. Everything but her business. I am patient. I wait in the heat for 30 minutes and when we go back inside, within a minute, she stealth poops and eats it.

We can't do this as our puppy is only 10 weeks And isn't allowed out until he has second Injection.

So basically give up my life, ( job, relationships, kids) in order for the puppy to learn how to potty outside. Thats considered easy. Ok.

I’d say the puppy is the most important thing, and if this is amount of time is not available for you at the moment, then maybe don’t get a dog in the first place.

@@RockedByRequiem Are you a little slow? If you can’t give a pet the time they need, don’t get one. Nothing to do with kids.
