I like that the show portrays lakan like this, especially as the show goes on and you learn more about him. Really goes to show its hard to judge people from first appearances.

Oh man you are in for a ride... you have made soooo many assumptions about lakan, maomao, her mom, and why she is still at verdigris house so long after she is able to bring in money. Most will be explained in the coming episodes, some details are subtly implied in the show but flat out explained in the light novel. I won't spoil anything, but I will say Lakan's job in the military is a strategist. Manipulating army units on the battlefield and manipulating palace people is the same thing to him. As such, how much of what he has told jinshi is true, and how much is to move pieces around the board to further his goal?

She knows that woumans her mom she just doesn't c her as her mom because she was constantly chased away and was actually raised by her adopted dad and her big sisters.
