Excellent video review and very entertaining series. Well done putting this together. Really looking forward to watching future series following your subsequent trips! I agree with all your assessments. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Lake Baccarac Lodge as well and can't wait to go back one day. If I could play devil's advocate on one element for a moment just for the sake of conversation: While the guides are invaluable and have a tremendous amount of knowledge of the lake, they can also become creatures of habit just like us anglers have a tendency to do. If you throw the recommended baits, in the recommended depths, at the recommended angles, utilizing the recommended retrieves, at the guide's favorite spots, you are certainly following a template which has led to historical success. However, you are also theoretically showing the fish comparable or identical presentations they see day after day, week after week, year after year. In a multi-day trip, do you feel there is merit (after you get a good pulse and if you're not just absolutely wrecking good numbers of big ones) to eventually "guide the guide", essentially asking them to explore or relocate to similar or different looking water, completely reposition the boat on some spots/areas to try alternative angles, widely vary your retrieves and utilize lures the fish rarely see? I ask because it seems the oldest, biggest specimens are the most susceptible to becoming conditioned and well-educated. I understand that this approach likely involves learning or brushing up on some applicable Spanish vocabulary prior to the trip, and you would absolutely want to present these requests/suggestions to the guide in a very respectful way, but I'd love to hear your thoughts on this strategic differentiation concept based on your personal experience and the experience of the anglers in your group(s) during your multiple trips to Mexico. They will get paid and tipped well either way, so I think most guides would be pleased accommodate the opportunity to work collaboratively with the clients in an attempt to dial in the fish. Does that all make sense? Appreciate the discussion!

Oh I totally get what you are saying! We did do that a bit later in the trip. I wouldn’t suggest doing that day 1 or 2. You trust the guide to start and then he will trust your input in return usually. Our guide adjusted his strategies from day 1 and 2 to utilize our strengths as anglers for the remainder of the trip. Sometimes we would hit the same areas as previous days, but not using the same baits. The other issue with certain angles on Baccarac is the terrain on the bottom is so unforgiving that I tended to get hung up a lot more when utilizing non traditional angles of attack. If I was solo fishing, my angles would be completely different. I would be utilizing more parallels to concentrate on certain depths. We finally figured out the last day that the bigger fish were suspended. It’s tough without real good sonar to locate areas where they will congregate when suspended. It has me thinking about a bunch of baits I haven’t seen anyone throw there yet in any KZbin videos. We shall see how that works out next time. Great comment!

Thanks, great video. I'm headed out on Thursday and will be staying at Bacurato Los Torreones. I'm going for on my first trip but most of the others have been several times. Appreciate all the info, particularly on the COVID testing for the return.

How was the quality of your rods you rented? Do you need to have your reels unspooled when you fly? Great informative video!

The rods we rented were great for what we needed them for. Granted I like a smaller rod for my topwaters, but Baccarac is a different type of beast. I used the Okuma and iRod models they had. YES , have your reels empty when going through the airport. TSA may make you empty the spool when going through security. Better safe than having to dump 4-5 spools of brand new Seaguar!

How many fish, weight you had daily?
@pacwestbassin35692 жыл бұрын
Each day was different. On average about 20 fish daily. Average bag for big 5 would be about 22-25lbs. Last day was a bag in the high 30’s
