Lake Como, Italy

Lake Como has been on the top of my travel list for years. An opportunity came up to go last minute and we decided we couldn't say no. The dream of driving a wooden boat on the lake had me wanting to head to the airport immediately when the email came in!
Thanks so much to Luxottica for bringing us on, what turned out to be, an incredible two day journey. And on top of that, my dream did come true....!

Lovely lake Como. Been there on weekends for short holidays since I live in Milan. Once I even went on the wooden boats and the Balbaniello Villa because I did a photoshoot for someone there. Good times!

Great acommodation guys, next time check out villas Balbianello (Casino Royale, Star Wars), Carlotta, Monastero, all have beautiful gardens, the towns like Bellagio, Varenna etc. You can go by a boat/ferry, it's an experience in itself and should cost around 15-25 Euro for a whole day ( there are three sizes of a circuit you can go, you can hop on and off) and you can visit all these beautiful places, have great meals...and to Balbianello it's nice to take a taxi boat for about 7 Euro, then you'll truly feel like James Bond:-)

Used to go there many a week-end, having lived in Milan (an hour drive only) - w my late Italian husband. Nothing to do there though except Restaurants and going to Villa d'Este for glamour. Otherwise, to Bellagio, shopping and eating and strolling. One has to have a Villa and a boat to enjoy the Lake fully. Or staying in this kind of exorbitantly-priced Hotels. Btw, ciao is only for people you know or those who are younger than you. Best bet to say is "buogiorno" for day time till 4 pm or so and "buona sera" for evenings, "buona notte" for good night.

No? They have a row of shops in front of the lake where behind them is a hilly cobbled-stone road with a lot of visitors walking around. Hotels and restaurants too but not to big an area, though, very charming.

We spend a lot of time by the restaurants near the dock..I wanted to buy some silk material..saw a Missoni store walking through the narrow corridors ..lovely place though

Glad you enjoyed it. Went there every so often from late mid spring to early summer. Did go there in sunny winter once. Hubby cajoled me to enter a jewellery shop, purchased an aquamarine and gold ring - the shop owner said it be a lucky ring. The week after, our apartment in Milan was ransacked like in a movie and took all my jewellery away. It was only 6 pm when we came back home after having our usual beverages in city centre. Awful!
