Wray Castle opened when we there there 2 weeks ago. The interior is unfurnished but the views are stunning looking out through the windows. But is was the ceilings that really caught my attention. Keep looking up.

Unfortunately, I didn’t get a chance to climb Scafell Pike on this trip but hopefully will go back again to do it. We (the locals) don't refer to it as "Lake" Windermere, as the "mere" part of Windermere means a large open body of water. So, in essence, you'd be saying Lake Winderlake. It's normally simply referred to as just Windermere.. There is actually only *one* Lake in the Lake District - Bassenthwaite Lake - the rest are "meres" or "waters"........

@@TravelwithRidhi I did, but be aware that the National Trust do not allow drones or model aircraft to be operated from land they own or manage..... Both the RAF and US Air Force use the Lake District for low flying training, and they can appear suddenly without notice.

More correct to just say "There is only one lake in the Lake District whose name contains the word 'Lake'" since they're all lakes. names like: '-water', '-mere', etc. just derive from the words for 'lake' in historic languages of the region, (Cumbric, Norse, Old English, etc.)

Wray Castle isn't actually a castle - it's a house, built as a folly by a Doctor using his rich wife's inheritance. It's hardly a major tourist attraction in the Lake District - it's an empty, unfurnished shell with very little to ponder over, apart from how they dare charge an entrance fee. (For future reference in identifying castles: Castles are by definition 'fortified structures', so as a rule they DON'T feature ground floor windows on their external walls!)
