Lake District Guided Walks: Kirk Fell, Pillar & Red Pike from Wasdale Head

The fells if Kirk Fell, Pillar and Red Pike all surround the secluded valley of Mosedale just off the upper reaches of Wasdale. This 10.5 mile walk takes in all three summits as it completes a skyline circuit around the valley of Mosedale with absolutely breathtaking views of the Scafells, Pillar Rock, Ennerdale, Mosedale and many other valleys and peaks.

Great video Joe. Pillar Rock is to be my final Birkett. Two more walks until then though! The interminable Dore Head screes! 😂 Descend them once and remember it for a lifetime! I remember wobbly walking back to Wasdale Head after coming down there!

How technical is this route? Is there a lot of exposure and/or scrambling required or can they be avoided?

The most exposed section is the scramble up to Kirk Fell from Black Sail Pass. It definately requires hands and feet but not difficult. Coming down is Ok too. If you head down Dorehead Screes like I did you can see how steep it is and loose underfoot the whole way making it tricky but you can make the walk longer and go down an easier way to the west and down to Wast Water.
