#FlashbackFriday. Another e6 Subscription video from last year.
Not all landscapes suit being in colour, especially those captured on overcast days. Join me at Buttermere and Crummock Water in the Lake District, where I show you how I visualise subjects and scenes ideal for a black & white conversion.

Well done Craig always enjoy your easy going way of your tutorials. Like you I like to think about composition and shapes in the scene. And that's what you do different from other's. I believe this is your style and a good one too. Regards, Allan.

Loved this video, frankly you can get away with murder in black and white as it's not a literal interpretation of the scene , lovely processing in black and white 😀

Lovely images. I'm shooting in Western Cornwall tomorrow and you've inspired me to try mono for the day. I've also got a couple of good compositions that for some reason I do not 100% like - I converted to B&W and hey presto they look great!

Great video, Craig and some lovely shots. I particularly like that shot you said didn't work so well and in text said it worked better than you thought. Its probably a good example of how a camera's LCD screen doesn't tell the full story. ;-)

Great shots as usual, even though you like a joke you never joke around with your photography and obviously put great thought into what you are doing. The great thing about shooting B&W on a digital is as long as you shoot jpeg you can shoot as if you are shooting B&W film, though obviously minus the grain. So you can use your coloured filters etc to enhance the sky and greens.

Excellent video as always Craig. One question I've been meaning to ask you is how do you achieve front to back sharpness with close foreground objects using only f8 most of the time?
@e6Vlogs
@e6Vlogs 7 жыл бұрын
Ozturk Aker f8 on Micro Four Thirds is equivalent to f16 on full frame. I will go up to f11 if i have a very close foreground subject.

Another great video Craig, thank you for sharing and giving us some creative ideas, it really is truly appreciated indeed .. One question I do have though, what is the camera system that you are using as I am thinking of changing to a lighter system and couldn't recognise which yours is .. Many thanks ..... Ian

Great video Craig - please keep up the good work. One question: I notice you use two cameras there. Is that simply to save changing lenses in the field?
@e6Vlogs
@e6Vlogs 7 жыл бұрын
Yes, when using primes especially, plus the E-P5 is better with long exposures.

Very enjoyable. I'm off to the lakes in early May and will try some mono. How do you arrange your hard and soft grads when used together?
@e6Vlogs
@e6Vlogs 7 жыл бұрын
Steve Hallam Depends on the situation and subject, but usually hard grad for top half of sky and soft grad lower to blend with the landscape

Good even Craig: with all the talk about full frame bodies producing so much better photos compared to aps-c and micro 4/3 with the full frame having better low light and dynamic range; how have you found your experience using your Olympus? Especailly printing out large format photos, ie 20x30. Thanks
@e6Vlogs
@e6Vlogs 7 жыл бұрын
The Olympus system is great. It's low light performance is as good as I need and the dynamic range is controlled with filters, as I have always used. 20x30 size prints are superb

@wcrofford 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks, these new micro 4/3's & aps-c sensors seem to have put a dint into the necessity to purcahse a full frame body.

Sir , Nice video :) . Can you help me by telling where was the focus/ DOP (Depth of field) in your first shot with the boat ? Thank you
@e6Vlogs
@e6Vlogs 7 жыл бұрын
One third of the way into the picture, or one third up the frame, it's more of less the same spot.

Hi at 11.36 the reflection of the mountain is cut off by the grass in the foreground, would it have been better with a higher view point to get the whole reflection?
@e6Vlogs
@e6Vlogs 7 жыл бұрын
Probably, but only a very tall tripod and step-ladder would allow this (which I did use to carry).

Are your photos heavily edited or just lightly touched? Will you make a video on your editing process?
@e6Vlogs

Mostly very light processing, but B&W does allow you to push the boat out a bit more with post-processing. I have post-processing videos on my website within a Beginners Photoshop module

An interesting video but too many photographers on KZbin are resorting to Monochrome in dull conditions....bad light is bad light in colour and/ or monochrome. Would make a refreshing change to see some monochrome images taken in good light worthy of hanging on the wall.
