After having moved to the east coast, I realized that the great lakes and tributaries probably have significantly better salmonid fisheries now than the west coast. I think because of how dirty the waters used to be, now that they have been cleaned up enough to support the fish, they basically started over from scratch. In doing so, with the imported fish, they seem to manage them as sport fisheries, which leads to the success shown in the video. Whereas in the Pacific states there is still a pretense of recovering native populations to their former glory, but without the political will or societal willingness to significantly alter their way of life to accommodate fish. Thus, WA, OR, and CA are stuck in this middle ground where sport fisheries aren't allowed to flourish, but natives won't really ever recover.

Charles Zeigler I’ve eaten plenty of lake chinook as well as fresh ocean kings right off the coast of CA.......hands down to those saltwater species in terms of quality.....lake chinook tastes more like a better version of trout and doesn’t contain as much of the fat found in Ocean kings........Don’t bother using the lake chinook for sushi or sashimi....the meat just doesn’t cut it

The Great Lakes salmon and steelhead fisheries didn't used to exist. I wonder if it's been determined how much they've added to the Great Lakes region economy? Big bucks I'll bet. We want our Pacific coast fisheries restored!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They eat the fatty alewife so their meat has more fats in it and is more pale. It's far from white though, a dark pink. The laketrout and steelhead can be more white meat, the browns are pink like the salmon. They are really good eating, but definitely are not as good as ocean reared fish. Ocean>Michigan>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Farm Raised.

Most lake Michigan salmon have orange to red meat, some have pale meat,depends on their diet
