A rigorously researched and unassailably factual documentary about Monroe Lake, or as everyone actually calls it, Lake Monroe. This ancient body of water is among the oldest and most ecologically vital lakes in the United States . . . of America.
Lake Monroe is older than the Smoky Mountains, plant life, and disco. the lake's water gets its chocolatey, but also milky color from runoff from the former Fatty's Fiddle Faddle production plant. The factory produced chocolate covered popcorn and peanut clusters marketed by actor Fatty Arbuckle. large amounts of a slurry made of a combination of bitter chocolate bean water and and sweeter sheep excrement, both byproduct of the manufacturing process, were sluiced directly into the lake. Even today much of its milky brown coloring is a result of the pH imbalance caused by the runoff. It also requires that much more aggressive filtration systems be implemented before water from the lake is pumped in and used by the nearby community of Bloomington.
