Lake MX238 Heel Slippage SOLVED ( simple fix for wide shoes )

If you have MX238 or any wide shoe with Lake, you might have had trouble with your hell slipping while walking. I solved that. It's so simple, I feel like "why didn't anyone else explain this?" so I posted this video.

Another advice: I noticed the cycling socks make a noticeable difference. Very thin Italian socks tend to be more slippery and less secure. I used Shimano ankle socks which have some slightly thicker areas on the heel and front and they provide a noticeable better fit in the shoe than the very thin.

I don’t have a wide foot but I do have Morton’s neuroma a painful foot condition and a wide fit is better for it. I did try a pair of these on with the same heal problem. I will now go back and try them on again using your solution. Many thanks for highlighting this.

If your heel slips, the shape of the shoe is not made for you. What happens with this way of tightening the shoe is it makes too much room in the front of the shoe and most people will tend to ''grab'' the bottom of the shoe with their toes which create fatigue in the foot and hotspots on long rides. When doing the sizing process for Lake shoes, if you have high arch, it's more accurate to put your feet on your arch support insoles on the ground or to avoid putting too much pressure on you feet to trace because your arches will collapse and make your feet a little bit wider. Lake shoes in wide version have huge heel collars. They assume that if you have wide feet you have big ankles.

any recommendation for wide feet at the front, but tight around the heel? i tried so many now and nothing seems to work... lakecx238 wide with slippy heel seems to be the best compromise..

Saw another video, I can't remember from who, but pretty much the same solution. Before even tightening the Boa down, press the heel back into the heel cup of the shoe. Then begin by tightening the top Boa dial , locking in the foot, then tighten down the front Boa dial to your preferred front foot snugness.

Thanks; I have the MX218 (so only one Boa at the top) and your fix doesn't work at all for me ! Hudge slippage on mine: as an avid cyclo-crossman it bugs me hard when running on steep climbs, but funny thing: I'm not sure I loose too much power ! Still I'm thinking of gluing/sewing a foam around the "rim"

You've effectively moved your cleat position forward, which isn't too good for biomechanics. It's not a problem if you still have space to move the cleat back, but a lot of riders slam them all the way back anyway as standard.
