@DSWadventures that makes sense. I haven't taken it out yet. I just finished repairing the alde system and will be getting new tires for it this weekend since it's still on the original ones. I have a Tacoma just like yours except stock with 1 inch bigger tires. Do you tow in drive or in select mode? On flat it seemed to hold 5th and go into 4th on any small hill. Just wondering if I should just keep it in 4th the whole time.
@DSWadventures
@DSWadventures 23 сағат бұрын
@tpolarbeart Awesome. Yes, always stay in the manualmatic mode with ect button on, it really helps for towing, you should be doing great on a smaller taller also. You want to make sure the truck isn't constantly up and down shifting back and fourth. When going up or down steep grades, you can just shift down and hold a gear also to keep engine rpms manageable for uphill, and engine braking downhill. If you haven't yet, if there is someone in your area, get the OTT TUNE done to the computer. The trucks is fine without, but wow, is it night and day how much better the truck operates. Like it should have from the factory, haha.

So glad I found your channel. My husband and I have been planning to buy a Tab trailer. We are going this weekend to possibly buy one. ❤ either a 320 or 400. We like the 320 because it should fit in our garage which is a major plus!

Very cool. If you get a 320 boondock, I think the garage door clearance should be just under 9ft. The regular road T@b is a little shorter also. The 400 is really nice, if you want something in-between, check out that new 360, very cool. Thank you for watching and commenting.

At Hutch Mountain I bought an adapter kit to run my 2200i Honda on either gas or propane. It was fairly easy to put on. So now, the switch has both options. I also have the Honda 2200i Companion Generator that I can connect with my other Honda, so together I have 4400. I bought both to use at my house, if ever needed. I bought the propane kit for that Companion, as well. I like the Companion and take that one with my TAB 400, because it has a 30amp outlet. Pretty sweet! Hutch mountain has all the hoses needed to connect both generators together, off one propane hook up. I plug it right in to my 400 outdoor propane plug in. I can’t remember which air conditioner I have, in the 400, (maybe a cool cat?? ) but I didn’t need to put a soft start on the air conditioner. Check into it. I love having both propane and gas options! Check it out!

Hey brother. Another nice video of you camping and me not camping. Lol. I always pick up some tips from your videos. I do have a couple of comments: 1) definitely no music! Your videos don't need it. And I wouldn't bother with a drone unless wanted to play around. 2) I just got a stovetop espresso pot and I love it! It's the traditional Italian mocha pot kind of thing. I'm looking forward to taking it camping and it cleans up easier than our press pot. Although if my wife comes camping with me the little espresso pot doesn't make enough at one time. 3) Did you run your Alde heat off of battery or propane? Just curious. I typically use the propane if I don't have power available although I have the lithium package on my trailer so not sure which one is better. My trailer is still winterized and sad but I am only a couple of months away from camping again. I can't wait. Thanks as always.
@DSWadventures
@DSWadventures 11 сағат бұрын
Haha, how's it going, Mr. Steve. Thanks for the input. I've actually considered getting one of those little espresso makers also, they look nice and compact. My 23 T@b unfortunately didn't have the option for a full lithium package and inverter at the time, so when dry camping, i run the heater on propane, but the glycol pump runs on battery of course. If you're none hook up camping, I'd say run on propane. Electric heating can use a lot of battery power real fast. If you're alde ran on 1kw power for the hour, it would pretty much kill a 100ah battery in about an hour. I'd actually be curious to know how much power it would use in an hour for sure. That would be interesting to know. Thanks for watching and commenting again.

Better for you and omg so good!! I love the tab 400 but the reason I'm going for the Nash is 4 season and though nothing is spider proof....(shudders...) pretty critter proof. @DSWadventures
@DSWadventures 23 сағат бұрын
@laurenm6511 Haha, they need to keep the chicken separate from the sauce, too, i think. Kevin's chicken is a lot better than Kevin's beef, haha. Yeah, a true 4 season trailer would be AWESOME! As far as mice go, I haven't had any get in yet, although if they want in, they will get in somehow from what I've heard. Gotta watch the under side of the trailers also. But, I do use Uncle Guses mice repellant spray. It seems to have driven a couple of squirrels and mice away from the stabilizer jacks so far. It's basically mint oil, cayenne pepper in water. I'm going through the process of making the trailer/motorhome choice. The motorhome gets garbage fuel economy regardless of what you're doing. The trailer at least allows me to get your best fuel economy when not pulling. My Colorado diesel returned 33 MPG new, Lifted on 32s without the chin spoiler 27. When towing a 68 gladiator v8 on a 7K lbs capacity twin axle trailer returned only 15 mpg. With a 5x8 box single axle I can still get 20 mpg unless I'm into the wind.

Love watching your videos. I am thinking of getting a Tab 320 for my wife and i. Do you think its enough room or should we look at the Tab 360 or 400? I wanted to keep it as small as possible.
@DSWadventures
@DSWadventures 11 сағат бұрын
It depends on a few things. If you're under 5'8 "tall and dont mind being in close quarters, then maybe yes. If you're taller and want to keep your setup small and easy to tow but have a little more room for comfort, a 360 may be perfect. The 400 is still pretty compact compared to most trailers, but there should be plenty of room for two. I would say find a Nucamp dealer and do some walk throughs to make sure. I have yet to see a 360 in person, and I'm really curious myself. I'd personally want a 1/2 ton truck or large suv for the 400 and maybe 360, though. It all depends on your tow ratings.

I’m not really interested in rock crawling, just exploring out of the way places. EDIT: Also, do you have much in the way of protection underneath your truck?

The wheels are also from icon suspension, i forgot the name, but they are a 17×9 if i remember with a zero offset, the tires are 33x10 or 285/70/17, it did require slightly cutting back the front cab mounts along with some slight inner plastic fender well trimming towards the cab.

Enjoyed video... my Tab is a 2015 but my small generator doesn't seem to run my A/C... thinking it is a "start draw" issue... might be an older AC?? Question... do you run the fridge on Propane?
@DSWadventures
@DSWadventures 11 сағат бұрын
Thanks. The newer tabs have an air 8 by Elwell for the ac. Yours should be similar to a window unit, right? I'm wondering how much power your ac takes on initial start-up then. In most newer trailers now, they have switched to a 12v refrigerator. Runs off the battery or shore power. They are much better at power savings and get colder faster. The downside is that you need a higher capacity battery and solar or a generator in the long run.
@RandyJohnson-w3k

@@DSWadventures My AC is Frigidare Window unit... runs great on shore power but it seems to overload the generator when the compressor kicks in.... my thought is that it is an older unit while something newer may have a "soft start".... AC not as important here in Idaho but I hope to travel. My fridge in a Norcold 3 way so it does run on 12 volt but I run propane when not on shore power... I do use 12 volt while traveling since truck charges as I drive. Like you I have fold out solar 200 watts but 2 batteries (lead acid). @RandyJohnson-w3k 8 сағат бұрын
@DSWadventures the southern high desert of Idaho is similar to some areas. I may try that neutral ground plug .. I've tried a 1000 watt sportsman generator... And also a 4000 watt pulsar with same results. AC fan runs but as soon as compressor starts it shuts down. I've watched KZbin vids of guys running window AC units on the 1000 watt sportsman generator. These things are tiny, quiet and run 10 hours on 1/2 gallon. I used it to power my starlink. I think I'll try the plug and will report back. Yes cold and snowy this time of year.

So do you think someone can full time living in the teardrop for a year with no major problems
@DSWadventures
@DSWadventures 16 сағат бұрын
My honest opinion, yes. But there are a few things. For this trailer or smaller, I'd say it would be a lot easier traveling solo, being under 5'8 or use to being in close quarters with your spouse while being fairly very minimum on what your bring along . Also, having a truck camper for much needed storage space is a huge help. As for a small teardrop, the T@b may work better than most because it has a small wet bath that may help add some extra comfort. If you are ever considering the full-time trailer life, I'd recommend doing some trailer walk through just to make sure something will work out for your needs . Thanks for watching and commenting.

Regarding big tires- We have a 2018 4Runner and installed off road tires. We dropped from about 14 mpg to about 12 mpg towing our Casita camping trailer. We got the same size according to the sidewall, but for whatever reason, the actual size was quite a bit larger. I vote no music. So many times I watch a KZbinr and the music drowns out the dialog. So far, I can hear every word you say, very clearly. Nice campsite, is it free BLM land? That’s not Lake Mead I assume. I swapped out our AGM for a 100Ah lithium, 160 watts of rooftop solar and 200 watts ground mount. I have the bluetooth monitoring too, less wiring and just a simpler setup overall.
@DSWadventures

On the tire change, it may also have to do with the weight of the tire, most likely more plys heavier duty. Those casitas are really neat, too. Good call on the no music. You solicited comments so just incase you don’t know the like, subscribe (and comments/comments to comments) helps to grow the channel. The algorithm uses that to determine how popular the video is and if it should randomly add it to someone’s suggestions. I do not find it an issue for you to suggest like and subscribe its really not offensive. Also if they don’t subscribe they may not run across you again and that would be a loss. The drone…. Everybody loves the drone footage if it’s done right. But it’s a pain for you and a never-ending cost. I would suggest you only bother if you want to do it. Although, you might like playing with the drone given you like rock climbing cars…. Music…. Again, if you want. But don’t do music for 3 seconds stop… you talk… 2 seconds music. Don’t do it annoyingly. Watch popular KZbinrs to see how it’s done correctly. Question…. Were you comparing miles/gallon to with/without the trailer. Would that be tent camping or something else that fits in the back of the truck? Or sleeping in the truck? Not sure you would get better mileage than 10-12 with any other truck/trailer or Class A or C RV. I think you are getting pretty good MPG. I like your videos very much. If you have the opportunity to go back to Quartzite you might look around for the Tab(s)/Tag(s) that are probably gathered together… even a drive-by if you don’t want to stop…. And possibly the Cirrus Truck campers. Congratulations on making
