Lake Somerville State Park is split into two units, the Birch Creek Unit and the Nails Creek Unit. Don't mix them up because each unit is its own state park! Even though we checked into the wrong park (oops), we still had a wonderful time!

Together for 10 years and then married in March 2020, we've had some amazing adventures in the past: a month-long journey from England back to the States, 4 weeks in Ireland, 6 weeks in Scotland, and then another 2 weeks in Ireland. We're in the process of documenting all of those trips, day by day, on our blog. After the joy of sharing those trips with friends and family, we've decided to take you along for all of our future trips! Here's to more #travel in the years to come!
Cheers,
Lydia and Billy

We have so many Bald Eagles in DFW. There is a nesting pair at White Rock Lake, a pair at Benbrook Lake, a pair at the Fort Worth Nature Center, and a pair at Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge. Its amazing how the population has rebounded thanks to conservation efforts.

We seriously just booked this park and discussed “what’s there?!?” and literally said…”I think I know someone that went there…”. Just further proof that you’re helping people out 🤙

Birch Creek SP is the closest park to me (about 20 minutes) so I frequent here, even just day use. The Eagles overwinter here, so Nov-Mar are the most likely times to see them, but they can be elusive. Lots of trails in this State Park system, good wildlife. I like the privacy between sites.

Oh thank you! We would really love to see the eagles so we'll try to visit again during those months. It truly was a lovely park and I'd like to go again when I'm feeling my best so we can explore more. I agree about the privacy of the sites. Some parks feel like you're right on top of your neighbor, but the ones we saw here looked so much better.

Always cool to see a Bald Eagle. Actually they are all over North America. Good idea to use the map marker when visit another park. I might start doing the same thing. 👍

@@AFoggyPath 1970's Bald Eagles were on a way going extinction because of hunting and DDT chemicals which made their egg shells weak but it's been a great comeback story after nationwide efforts. Cool to see these magnificent birds around and it's the symbol of America. 👍
