Man I'm loving the tank. The plants are awesome and I think the fish enjoy them. I too also love sponge filters. I think they are the best. I rely on my plants to do most of my filtering along with my sponge filters. Every tank has pothos, I even have less popular types as well as your 2 Most common. I keep luck bamboo I have one shoot that has 3 more coming up and They all are under water. I keep mini plam and pothos in my 2 big systems. I also grow wondering jew and another vine plant as well. Not sure what it is called. I have learned a ton from you all. I love it. Thank you for all you do. Thank you for helping me grow in this hobby. Started out with one betta and 3 gallon tank. Now I have 5-10gals, 6-5gals, 4- 3gals, then my 2- 30 gallon tanks. One has my blue crayfish and guppy fish. The other has my turtle Turt-Turt MaGurt which I got him on National Turtle day of this year. I have my fully planted 20 long betta sorority with platy, and few other fish. I thank lisa for that 😍 my tank is balanced and my ladies play nice. Then my 40 breeder is prized tank. That has my blue gourami I raised him from fry, a long with my 2 yoyo loaches, albino BN pleco, Harlequin Rasbora and scissor Rasbora, and last but not least my blue nano tetra. I also own many other types of fish and I have started my own breeding projects. I know this super long and know you all are so busy and you might not see this. Any ways again thank you so much for helping grow so much in the hobby 😍

Hi Jeson - need a little suggestion how many fishes at maximum can be kept in a tank with dimensions- 36 inches long, 12 inches wide and 15 inches tall. It is somewhat 28 gallon. The fishes I am planning are Julidochromis transcriptus, leleupi and Neolamprologus brichardi. I am planning on running 2 sponge filters and a weekly water change of 20 to 30 percent.
@PrimeTimeAquatics4 жыл бұрын
In that size tank I would think about leaving the Brichardi out of the mix - they will over take the tank eventually. If you go with the other two, start with five each and see if you get any fry to survive (with lots of rocks it's possible). Have fun!
@avishekroy60604 жыл бұрын
Prime Time Aquatics completely understand. I recently read that leleupi is a terrible fry eater. Will it work if I put Julidochromis transcriptus and brichardi? If it’s not advisable I have Another option I can go for is a 50 gallon tank- length 36 inches, width 18 inches and height 18 inches. What is your thoughts on the fishes I can put in that and how many. Thank you for helping me with your vast experience before I start - I just don’t want to end up with few dead fishes at the beginning just by getting the basics wrong.
@MrDhanzy4 жыл бұрын
how do yo maintain the flow rate? I mean, it has to be very low, other wise all decorations will be dislocated. How about surface agitation with plants all over? How often do you need to change water,to clear out fish debris, as i see no water movement in this tank?
@PrimeTimeAquatics4 жыл бұрын
The two sponge filter provide all the surface agitation necessary. We do about a 30% water change once a week.

Hi Jason, your video has inspired me, but I've been discouraged by some from setting up a Lake Tanganyika tank due to the difficulty of maintaining the water parameters for these fish that react poorly to very subtle changes in water conditions. I have a thermal mixer maintaining incoming tap water at a constant 79 degrees, so any temporary fluctuations during water changes would be in the GH and PH. If I kept my water changes to just 10%, twice a week, would that be harmful to these fish?
@PrimeTimeAquatics3 жыл бұрын
WIth small water changes I don't see why the pH or GH would fluctuate?

I just adopted a cichlid from an assorted tank. Just trying to figure out what kind it is. It looks kind of like a Neolamprologus sexfasciatus? It is white (w/lightblue undertone) with black bars and has blue around the eyes a yellow tint to the head region and tail, and a blue tint on the ridges of his dorsal fin. also, a black spot on the gill. he was getting bullied at the store, so I brought him home to live with my one eyed polar blue parrot Cichlid, but it might not work out so well lol. My parrot cichlid is pretty naughty. I guess having one eye and being previously bullied has made him paranoid or more aggressive maybe😄 yes yes that’s right. I have no idea what I’m doing right now. Want your fry to survive? Give them ceramic caves. Even with your compressips there will be range wars. You will be scooping and taking fish to the fish store couple times a month. Take it from someone who has done this a long time. Had colonies of C. Foai Mbete (real purple ones) that would spawn and preferred my hand instead of a net to spit in. This with lamprichthys overhead.

Your "neolamprologus transcriptus" looks more like julidiochromis regain.
@PrimeTimeAquatics4 жыл бұрын
I meant Julidochromis transcriptus. The regani have more of a stripped pattern. I have had them too. :-)

The Frontosa tend to be the largest of the common fish from Lake Tanganyika. Some of the feather fins can be on the larger side too.

According to an article I read from Reef Builders, I think the red algae you have is a form of freshwater coraline algae and it is found in Lake Tanganyika...reefbuilders.com/2020/06/22/red-encrusting-algae-grows-in-freshwater-too/
