On the first ideal offseason roster build, Trevor Lane takes a look at a world in which the Lakers trade for star guard Donovan Mitchell. It's not easy to get there and there are a lot of hoops to jump through. Plus, JJ Redick left Anthony Davis off his All-Defensive team ballot, how big of a deal is it?

I will read the rest of your comment but let me respond to the first part I never once thought this team is going to be any better. You can go back and look at all my comments for the past two seasons. I took a lot of hate for saying this team would go nowhere I screamed about rebounding all season last year and then Trevor finally talked about it during the Golden State series and when he did he acted like it was something new I screamed about it all season long and then Trevor would occasionally mention it and say it was a problem in some specific game Eventually he started saying it was kind of a problem or a trend Complete nonsense. It is literally the number one issue facing this team and it has been for 2 years including even when Westbrook was here

The ideal offseason is the exact same as it has been for 2 years Get a true big/ rebounder and a coach who is willing to play him. And then hope and pray that Davis can stay healthy again. And father time doesn't finally crush LeBron completely
@peteranders7106
@peteranders7106 Ай бұрын
You guys had your ideal off-season. That roster wasn't better than 2020 like you all thought, it was a catastrophe. And we can thank D'Lo, Spencer and Vanderbilt for making the playoffs at all. Yet you are all blaming D'Lo for a depth chart that looked like a G-league scrimmage at the SG and SF position. If I here length one more time I swear to God I'll go on a 10 page rant about what having 7 power forwards on a roster with AD and LeBron does to a team and it ain't pretty. It's time for LA to come to their senses and get a starting SG and SF, who are 3&D players with elite defense. Then nobody is going to say a word about needing an old school big that will only get targeted in the high screen and roll like teams targeted Reaves, Prince, Rui and D'Lo all day every day. That entire idea won't work any more if there aren't 3 mismatches concurrently on the court and teams can no longer set franchise records in 3s made against us like 3! teams did last season. And when they can't shoot 50% against us, they will have to get into the paint and that won't be easy any more either, because you can't just run over Austin Reaves and make the pass, when AD comes over. The ideal off-season has been the same for 3 years actually. Get Caruso back. Get OGA and give up Rui and all those silly picks that turn into nothingness line JHS and Max anyway. We don't need guys that have the potential to be good once LeBron retires and we have to rebuild around AD. Who gives a crap? I want another ring now. I am not worried about building for when AD gets close to retirement. You can all stick your traditional big where the high screen and roll doesn't shine.

In my ideal scenario, Lebron would take a paycut to add PG13 on the roster, who still is an excellent 3andD player. The roster would look like: PG: Reaves, CP3, Spencer SG: PG13, Christie, Bronny SF: Vando, Lewis PF: Bron, Rui C: AD, Valanciunas, Wood Lenght, defense, shooting, playmaking, depth, and versatility. Plus the Lakers gets to keep most of their picks for the future or mid-season trades. It'd take a major ask from Bron to give away a lot of money to do this, but due to Pelinka's incompetence, that's the only way I can see we building a championship roster again.

Donovan Mitchell and a big body center that can block shots and rebound should be our priorities. I also dislike Rui on this team. He doesn't fit in our starting line up because he doesn't play defense well and his jump shot is sporadic. He is NOT a 3 and D guy. He was also not willing to come off the bench where he could be the 6th man type of guy. We should try to trade him for a player that can come off the bench and score. Vando should be his replacement as a starter. Our defense should be what defines us, that's what won us a chip. Mitchell AD and Bron should be enough offense for us, we just need defensive players around them and a couple of guys that can shoot 3's.

It's not a big deal AD was snubbed off of JJ Reddick's all-defensive ballot. This season he was not the monster defender that we saw in the playoffs last season, though his offense picked up. It's also amazing no one is criticizing AD on defense. Why? Because people just look at stats. Had he played elite defense this season his offense would have gone down and everybody would call him a bum. I will say if he had help in the center position he probably would have had more energy on defense but he played every night at center which we know he doesn't like to do. Common sense it's taxing on his body. Look what he did when we had Dwight and JaVale McGee. We all know what he can do defensively he just needs the right pieces around him but when our back up centers are Christian Wood and Jaxson Hayes then he has to pick up the slack.

He only played 55 games, Austin Reaves all 82… Does the Lakers NO GOOD at all if they’re trading for another star who misses games. Can’t bet on AD playing in 76 or more games again with his injury history and LeBron 71 or more for 2 seasons in a row… Build and fill out our depth is the right path for now to go and take an Allstar caliber player, not another superstar!

Man if lebron takes 40 and we improve the pg spot in this situation we will win a chip easily get Gary Payton or KCP Lebron and Mitchell will bring the ball up anyway someone like that Chris starting is ruff at this point in my opinion

maybe AD expresses not liking JJ as a coach for the Lakers and JJ has known that.

If you really wanna read into things, JJ being critical of a team that didn’t play to its potential is a good thing. But he didn’t say any of that either. Big reach.

5 rosters in 6 seasons. Only 2020 worked, everyone always gets shipped out fired coaches. Lakers situation is embarrassing at this point. Mommy, make it stop!

Solid roster. Just didn;t like shipping Reaves away. Hopefully there's a scenario where they don't get Mitchell and go another route to build out the roster with more depth.

Is it possible to swap reeves with rui in that Donovan trade? This way you keep another ball handler with you and not have to fully rely on CP3. Move Woods to the 4 to address depth issues on that position. Then get preferrably drummond instead of Goga. Or get them both if possible since you're sending out more salary in that donovan trade if you use rui instead of reeves

If Bron took a slight cut could they have access to the TPMLE and bring back Tauren using birds rights? If winning is his priority taking a small cut to open up adding an above a minimum player could go a long way

If they get DMurray, then Markkanen is a good fit. Murray, Norman Powell/McCollum, oubre jr, AD & Markkanen. Dinwiddie, skylar, tj Warren, LBJ, Ware huff, vonleh, shaq Harrison, duarte, luka samanic/jhernangomez

Darvin ham was all about the defensive side for Anthony Davis. How’d that work out?😂😂 Most of you people enjoy basketball but don’t truly understand the game. JJ Redick is super smart and has a very high IQ when it comes to basketball so I think he knows what he’s talking about. You guys just don’t understand what he’s talking about.😂

Could we attach a pick to Dlo for Jonathan Isaac of Orlando? Rui, Gabe & a pick for Bruce Brown and Jalen McDaniels?

Giving up too many assets to only wind up with 3 guys that you can TRULY count on in the playoffs regardless of matchup. Go with depth model. Ideal offseason is adding a big, maybe Jarret Allen via trade and bringing kcp home.

Personally, for me id love to see like us put ad back at the 4 get Drummond and keep hayes and a back up then go get like caruso and or collin sextion, or even chris paul to be our back up pg. Id guess wed have to give up RUI, GABE,JSH, CAM REDDISH, and WOODS i think wed be able to get all that done if we gave up thise guys and picks if dlo opt in that would make all this more likely

What are we seeing the last few years with successful teams continuity and youth The Lakers front office continues to go after aging players on one year contracts hence why they are in the play in tournament instead of actually being a contender

This thing with JJ not voting for AD for all defensive team. Could we maybe be underestimating JJ just a bit? If you ask me I think he's already planting some seeds. What if he's trying to take AD to an even higher level and by leaving him off all defensive team, and then AD seeing it, maybe it lights a fire in AD and he comes into training camp with a chip on his shoulder with something to prove? I love AD but we've all seen him disappear in whole games or go scoreless in a 2nd half or 4th quarter when game is on the line and we need him. He also gets a lot of criticism for his lack of aggressiveness at times. Not being able to always put the team on his back and carry them when the situation calls for it. Call me crazy but I think JJ is already doing some Lakers coaching just in a very sly way.

I thought JJ would be a big mistake as HC, but been watching his podcast with LBJ and now I'm kinda thinking he might be the right guy for the job. Maybe LBJ and AD need someone who's brutally honest with them and just real about things, doesn't let them walk all over him and doesn't cater to any players BS.
