The Lakers have been mismanaged for over a decade. It's not just since LeBron. Ever since Jerry Buss passed, his idiot kids, namely Jeanie, have been clueless how to run the team. The Lakers gave up FOUR draft picks for a 38 year old Steve Nash, who barely played and never showed up to games on the side line when he was injured (even though he was playing golf perfect with a "bad" back). They hired Mike D'Antoni instead of Phil Jackson. They gave Kobe an insanely high final contract even though he was a shell of his former self and it handicapped the team salary cap wise from competing. And now the circus show with LeGm and the countless antics related to him since he joined the Lakers. It's truly embarrassing what the franchise has become.

I don't usually like to be a pseudo psychologist, but LeBron is probably the perfect example of a person trying so hard to live someone else's life-or in this case, live up to someone else's legacy-that they end up destroying their own. He was getting compared to Jordan when he was a teenager, and that clearly went to his head. It arguably became an obsession over time, especially when it became clear that he wouldn't be able to exactly match it. What he failed and has failed to realize is that he was setting himself up for failure before his professional career even began. Like Batman said in 'The Dark Knight': "You either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain." LeBron tried to prolong his life, and now he is the villain. To your point about LeBron retiring back in 2020, I don't think that would've made much of a difference.
