Rear Window Louver Installation: An Easy One Person Job

Not crazy at all about a window louver that is fixed in place permanently as eventually, that rear window glass has to be cleaned. I believe those louvers back in the late 60's Mustangs were removable just for that purpose. Aside from that, though, this Mustang has undergone a complete transformation with the expert workmanship by Jerry!

The OEM set that pops installed on his 84 Saab 900 were hinged at the top and had 2 little posts to hold it up to clean the window. And latches to hold it down. 2 hinges in the top corners , and 2 latch spots at the bottom corners.

I remember in my younger days a friend had a Ford Torino 429 Super Cobra Jet. I remember it was that pretty blue and it had those rear window lovers from factory on it. I thought it was a neat looking car. And it ran pretty dang good too! Take care Jerry!

I don't think it would be hard to do. Maybe remove it on a real hot day to warm up the adhesive. I'm sure you would probably damage the louver in the process though :)

Can you still install one with a rear windshield wiper ?

Not on this car because I remember it rattled against the window - had to stick some rubber strips where is came really close. Maybe on cars that have windshield wipers, they engineer space for it - might depend on the car you are ordering it for :)

My only question is how do you clean your rear windshield if you can't take the louver off and put it back on? This is a real question

You can spray water under it and also reach under with your hand but it is difficult like you were thinking. Not very practical but looks cool ✌

Cool, now show us how to get it back off without damaging the paint. Sorry, I know I'm sarcastic, I'm just not a fan of louvers.

It's stuck onto the window glass so if you sit it out in the hot sun and warm the adhesive tape you can cut the plastic and pry it up from the window side away from the paint - with a plastic or wood tool - so you don't crack the window.

This video is for guys like me that have lovers to fit, great video thanks, mine are going on a 1973 Australian gm called a Statesman, back in the day, you had Louvers, mags, tinted windows and big tyres

@@colinstables Exactly - nothing like a fat set of tires on the back, louvers, air shocks to lift it up a bit, stereo with all kinds of fancy lights, etc. I'll have to look into this Statesman :)

What brand of double sided tape was used?

3M. It wanted to pop up in the corners at the top but I used a paint stick and tape to pry it down and hold it in place while parking it in the sun to heat and sort of mold the plastic. Make sure you keep checking to make sure the corners are staying down - esp at the top :)
