Regarding the tapestry, those things take a LOOOOOONG time to make. The film showed her mother working on it earlier, she did everything by hand. What Merida did was ruin thousands of hours of careful work by her mother, a very physical representation of that fight ripping apart years of love between them.

23:31 That moment when you realise THIS is what her mother's been training her for. Not just to be a meek and mild lady who does nothing, she's been training her to be a queen, training her to rule her clan alongside her husband just as she's been doing with Fergus. She's been teaching her social skills, public speaking, diction and the history of each of the clans, all things you need when to be a leader.

I don't understand why people like to hate on this movie. It may not be up to Pixar's usual standards, but it is in NO WAY a bad film. When I first watched it, I actually teared up. My relationship with my own mother had its difficulties and I could relate to what was shown in the film. I also liked how both parents were present and were shown communicating frequently in a healthy manner. Side note: I know how it feels like to be seen as young. I'm 27 but I get mistaken for a college student all the time. It's annoying but I'm sure I'll be grateful for my good genes later. At least, that's what people tell me all the time.
@chicade4810 Жыл бұрын
I remember when the movie first came out, I was excited for an action-adventure movie with what looked like a solo female protag, because that's what the advertising led me to believe. When it was more of an emotional film about a mother and daughter, I was annoyed because my teenaged brain just thought "I've seen this a million times already!!" As an adult looking back at this movie, I see I was way too harsh on it. It's actually a really good movie and it does bring me to tears now. Some people just need some time and perspective 😊💕

For me while I related to the dynamic between Merida and her mom, I didn't like what she did, as much as I may bicker with my mom it would never cross my mind to try something that could hurt her or cause her distress. The little mermaid and Turning red dealt with the strict parent dynamic way better. I still think is one of Pixar best movies and a stepping stone for animations in terms of curly hair representation lol, I'm not ginger but I have curly hair like hers and it was really accurate.

"I am Merida, firstborn descendant of Clan Dunbroch. And I'LL be shooting FOR MY OWN HAND!" Fun Fact: "The Bear And The Bow" was the original title. Historical Fact: The chess set in Merida's (Kelly Macdonald) room is the famous Lewis Chessmen from the twelfth century, unearthed in Scotland in 1831. Mythology Fact: The name of the evil bear, from the legend told by Queen Elinor (Dame Emma Thompson), is Mor'du. In Gaelic, it would be spelled "Mor Dubh" and means the large black one. Corset Campaign Fact: The scene where Merida's (Kelly Macdonald) dress splits, and reveals her corset, while amusing, is inaccurate given the movie's apparent medieval setting (around the 10th century). Corsets didn't come into fashion until Elizabethan times, approximately 600 years after the movie's apparent setting. Lost In Translation Fact: Kevin McKidd was particularly happy to work on this project because it was the first time in years that he'd been able to use his natural Scottish accent in a movie. The dialect that Young MacGuffin speaks is called Doric. It is spoken in northeastern Scotland, including Kevin McKidd's hometown of Elgin.

I have no idea what the thing he said to the other sons was before they went on a bear hunt, but the first thing he said before the brawl was "If he were a wee bit closer I could lob ma caber at him, ya ken?" lob meaning 'throw' and 'caber' meaning that long piece of wood we saw someone throw at the beginning of the games.

For those who were wondering, the tribute to Steve Jobs is because without him, Pixar probably wouldn’t have gotten off the ground. In the beginning, Pixar only made shorts. They were not financially stable, so they didn’t have the option of making a feature length film. Steve Jobs struck a deal to let them use his capital and technology from Apple to create their first 3 movies. Toy Story was their first major financial success and the rest is history.
