Hi SonoGes fam! ✨
Welcome back and thank you for clicking on this video!
If you are new here, WELCOME!
We hope you have a happy and PAWSitive experience!
My name is Geselle and I am an ultrasound technologist based out of Las Vegas. I am per diem, work two jobs, and currently work in a hospital and outpatient clinic.
We are back with another video which is on a very frequently asked question! I hope to answer any confusion you have when it comes to ultrasound registries, board exams, and different specialties. There are tons of different specialties in the field of ultrasound, but just because you aren't registered in one, doesn't mean you won't scan that particular type of ultrasound. As a sonographer, depending on which school you went to, what clinicals taught you, and which field you're going into... you will be able to specialize in certain types of exams after taking the ARDMS specialty board exams. In order to take these specialty board exams, you must pass the SPI exam, and in order to take the SPI exam, you must go to an accredited or non-accredited associates or bachelors sonography program! Wow, was that a lot or what?! Stay tuned for this video and stick around for the whole thing because there is a TON of information for the sonography student and future sonographer in here!
I hope you leave this video with a better understanding of how the ARDMS board exams work and how the sonography field works. I am a registered sonographer in abdomen and vascular, but I still scan everything in the body, including OB and GYN patients... (except for the heart). This video will explain it ALL to you! And if I missed anything or if you have any questions or need clarification, please comment down below!
Thank you so much for watching and I'd appreciate it if you hit that like button and subscribe for more videos! Help us GROW the SonoGes fam!!!

That's awesome! As long as the person who signs your CV form also has the registry and can attest that you know what you're doing then the professor should be fine. I always recommend Edelman and Davies books! Also the RED Penny book for abdomen/ OBGYN and the pediatric sonography book by Siegel!

Hi Giselle! Love your videos on sonography. I’m currently in my program & took a break and am going back in a few weeks. I have a question about the pathway to be able to sit for my registry. Is the cci registry a legit thing? Because with my school I would have to take the cci registry first and then I’d qualify for ardms. I just want to know if the cci organization is legitimate lol. In your experience, do people who attend trade school vs universities/community college obtain the same job outlook? Do all of your co-workers in the hospital have a BS degree? I'm switching careers and only have an AS. Due to time I'm going the trade school route because 1. I couldn't get into any of the community school classes I needed. 2. For many of the community school program they have an expiration on the science portion, which I took years ago. I was just curious if this limits my job prospects because of it.

Im looking into doing Sonography, but im still a little confused on what I should do. I heard you can do Certificate, Associates and Bachelors. I don't think im going to do Bachelors but im between Certificate and Associates. What do you recommend? If theres one specific program I want to do for example RCDS, would Certificate be the way to go or should I go for Associates and do RDMS? Thanks.
@lolgeselle
@lolgeselle 7 ай бұрын
If you don't care for going into upper management or teaching/ getting a MBA then the associates would be better for you. If you already have a bachelors or associates degree, a certificate may be the better route. It all depends on you and the cost of the certificate/degree.

Hi! You'll need to go to a program that will allow you to sit for ARDMS and get registered in RDMS :) That way you can scan! You can do a certificate program since you already have a bachelors. CAAHEP.org can help!

If the school is NON accredited there are a few ways you can still take ARDMS. You have to ask the school what the steps are. Check out ARDMS.org for pre-reqs to the registries. You can also ask your school directly if you can sit for ARDMS and what their process is for it.

So is it best to have general sonography so that you are aware of all areas of the body vs. Specialties?
@lolgeselle
@lolgeselle 2 жыл бұрын
You have to go into general to learn all of the body, vascular to learn just vasculature of the body OR go into echo/cardiac just to do the heart. :)

www.ardms.org/wp-content/uploads/pdf/ARDMS-General-Prerequisites.pdf It’s under prereq 5, it just says you need to have a copy of your active license, completed cv form, and your Id to sit under that prereq. So I’d assume as soon as you have a copy of your license and the completed form you can apply for it

Which registry is best? As in work wise and pay wise.
@lolgeselle
@lolgeselle 2 жыл бұрын
They're all different. It depends on what you enjoy scanning the most. Pay wise people say neurosonography however that's usually tied into general/vascular in a hospital setting. I believe vascular and echo do really well. But general also does really well in some states. Just depends where you live. I would do a search in the city you want to work in. Working as a per diem tech will pay more. Pay doesn't necessarily have to do with the type of job but the experience you have.

@lolgeselle
@lolgeselle 3 жыл бұрын
It is possible, but you have to find someone willing to teach you cardiac. I’d say most small cities and towns are better for this option. Let’s say you work in a hospital setting in general and are curious about echo, talk to the echo department and supervisors. But that is correct, it’s called “cross training” but in order to sit for the RDCS, someone has to sign you off and acknowledge you are competent and you have scanned enough echos.

Any way you can increase your points? If you need to retake a class or if you have an admissions test, go for it! There's tons of applicants who didn't get in their first or even second time. I'm currently waiting to hear back and if I'm not accepted, I'll be retaking my test and applying again. Also look into surrounding programs if possible (:

Yes like Jackie is saying, retake classes during this time save up money while you're waiting to reapply, retake tests to get higher scores. A lot of people don't get in on their first try so don't let that discourage you. Don't give up.❤❤❤❤

Juanita, it’s okay to be bummed I totally get it! I’m so sorry that’s happening. I know it’s hard but definitely try to look at the brighter side. I believe everything happens for a reason. Definitely try to talk to the counselor or admission peeps and ask them what could you do better for next application process or what are things they can suggest you do to in order to get in the next time! It’s always hard to get in on the first try, if you show them you’re passion and willing to try and do what you can to get in, they will definitely see your strength and perseverance! If you don’t want to wait you can also see if you can apply to other sonography programs that will take your classes. But if this is something you truly want, I’d say don’t give up and try to find other ways you can keep moving forward toward your goal! We’re here for ya. 🤍
