I was recently on the Royal cruise and in front of me was and a father and a minor son. We were disembarking. The father got his seapass scanned first and started walking toward the gangway. Next up was his minor son. when the security guy scanned his card. He told him to stop. He wouldn’t let him off the ship. He asked where his parents were. Of course His father was halfway down the gangway. His father had to come back, and get his son before security will let him off the ship.
@cruisingal23 ай бұрын
That's exactly how it should be. Minors should have a pic of their parents on the ship computerized manifest so that when they are checked off the ship, they can see that the parents are the one accompanying them off ship. And if multiple people have the authority to take the minor off ship, their pics should be included in the authorized persons that can do so.

I work at Princess in the Port of Fort Lauderdale and there is such a loss of situational awareness and abdication of personal responsibility among our passengers that we have been trained not to allow any group with minor children out of the terminal building until they are all together. I know the ship has a colored flag onboard their security system alerting them to a minor and they don’t let them on the gangway without their adult. Unfortunately many adults head down the gangway without their children and have to be called back, which backs up the line and annoys waiting passengers. I personally ask every young adult their age because sometimes it is hard to tell how old they are. I had heard in this case there was an issue with the grandmother’s mobility which led to this unfortunate situation but I wasn’t there so I don’t really know. But I do have my more than fair share of horror stories concerning parents/guardians and their cavalier attitude with their offspring while traveling. These ships and these ports are not “Mayberry” and as security conscious as these ships have to be, passengers still have the primary responsibility of care for themselves and the minors in their charge. Particularly with those who have disabilities, either minors or of age.

Love your show. 1. It is good to know the young person has been found but, as you pointed out, how on earth did a minor get off the ship unaccompanied? 2. Is the issue with Amsterdam and other cruise ports restricting and even closing to cruise ships symptomatic of the change, supersizing, of these ships? To lay cards on the table, we prefer smaller ships and would not sail on one of what are essentially floating resorts. Cruising and general tourism are increasingly popular, consequently, many places believe they have too many tourists. Good for a few businesses but not for those living there appears to be the prevailing viewpoint.

Aydin's parents need to supervise their sons internet-computer activities and put restrictions on his electronic devices. For him to contact a male person in Germany and arrange a meeting with him in Warnemuende-Rostock , he needed to be actively involved visiting unsafe websites for minors.. How many other things has he been doing on the internet ? He was found with a 19 year old male in Brandenburg / Potsdam around 120 miles away from the cruise port. Thanks to the fast response from the German police and other German authorities, this nightmare came to a quick end. On German newspapers Aydin's photo made the front page and a lengthy description of the missing teenager disappearing from the Caribbean Princess. I have been travelling with my now 14 year old grandson many times on Princess, and if he walks 2 or 3 passengers ahead of me and the security ask for an adult, my grandson just pointed at any adult behind him and that was ok with Princess. At the time my grandson was allowed off the hip, Princess security does not know which adult is supposed to be with him. Any adult will do. That is Princess's problem, they need to link any minor passenger to the correct guardian or parent when disembarking the ship. .

Our grandson travels with us a lot, ultimately my responsibility! With that said, we always cruise NCL and they always ask who he is with when he gets off. My cousin got off the ship for an excursion and we went to go off with my cousins child and my 2 carnivals security stopped us and asked where his father was. We said he got off for a carnival excursion and we were family. They made us wait and looked into it and realized the minor was with his grandmother and we were all in different cabins. They even looked at the children’s camp to see who was able to pick him up and we were all on the list. They let us go off but we were held up for a time. I’m glad the child was found safe.

I think the policy is in place and pray most crew will enforce it. I cruised last year on RCL with my 3 granddaughters. One was 18 and the other two were 17 and 15. One day, was a bit ahead of them as we were leaving the ship at a port. I checked off, walked down the gangway and waited for the girls. A crew member came to get me to return to the security check out and verify that I was indeed responsible for the girls. They verified all photos and our cabin assignment before they let us go. I was actually happy they were putting safety first.

Have you ever watched how the hair braiders work? I watched them in Mexico, and they used the same combs for every person with no cleaning between clients. They would also stop and blow their nose into their hands! I was so disgusted by how they worked. I used to be a manicurist and went to beauty school in California, USA, and they were totally unsanitary. At the time I had hair long enough to sit on and super thick, and they were practically begging me to pay to have my long thick curly blond hair braided. I was like "Hell NO!" Y'all ain't being sanitary with your brushes or anything else!" I can't believe the number of people that I have seen do that while down there.

We took a cruise, it stopped in Rotterdam, then moved to Amsterdam. What we found was that all the excursion when we were at Rotterdam was in Amsterdam. So when we got to Amsterdam it almost the same toured we took when we were in Rotterdam. So I really don’t think the move that Amsterdam is making will be that impactful to the local businesses.

Thank you for clarifying that the head lice is being spread from the brushes and combs used on different cruise passengers when braiding hair and not from the hair of the actual people doing the braiding. This is important because the last thing we want to portray is that the local people who are braiding the hair are the ones who have the lice to begin with and are spreading it to vacationers visiting the ports.

I've said it too many times but cruising has evolved in a negative way. Head Lice? Funny yet disturbing story. Many years ago I was in Nassua and did what tourist do, I went to a tent on the beach to have my hair braided. There was a line of seats with people braiding hair. The braiders were using spray bottles to moisten the customer's hair. The lady braiding my hair had a spray bottle that sounded different than the others. Then I realized that I was not feeling the mist of the water hitting me. I turned around to see her with her fingers in her mouth loading them up with saliva! I have never been tempted to braid my hair again!

Amsterdam is not hurting its tourist economy because it is not shutting down all (or even most) tourism, just cruise tourism. Cruises dump a lot of people into town for a brief period of time - and they overrun the city while not contributing to the majority of the local businesses. Non-cruiser tourists spend much more money in the city because they usually stay multiple days there during which time they fill hotel rooms, eat 2-3 meals per day in restaurants, shop in stores that aren't just souvenir shops, and patronize museums, nightclubs, bars and other entertainment venues. Tourism-driven businesses such as canal boats and souvenir shops will still have more than enough tourists without cruise ships. Barcelona is about to do the same thing. And I get it.

I agree, he should not have been allowed off the ship by himself. Flag his cruise card as a minor. All port's and merchant's benefit from tourism. $18.50 for chips. Even $13.00. way to expensive. Maybe $3-4.max. $8.50 still to high. Head lice... Got an itch!! .. People should know that item's used for hair may not be clean. As always thank you for all you do ❤

Sorry for the delayed reaction I had to watch that old comedy video that you and Jenny put out. It was funny.😂 but for this video I wanna thank you for sharing it with us and I’m glad they found that boy Aiden. I was so worried and they should change their procedure and not let young kids off the ship. Thank you again.🛳️💖⚓️🙏🏼👍🏼🎉

Children are not permitted off ships without an adult and crew know they are under age as their cruise cards are different. I cruised with my child from the age of about 12 until adult and on one sea day I had a migraine and couldn’t Leave bed and the crew looked after him really well. I was invited to a captain’s private cocktail party and the crew took him and introduced him to the captain and he had a great time ( he was about 16-17 years old and 6”7’ this trip but still a child and the crew could tell by his card) for the next 13 days he was greeted by name by so my crew member, it was like he was famous or something! Lol 😂 one of the nicest crews ever 🥰

Why would anyone allow someone to braid their hair when they are using the same combs on every customer 🤦🏽♀️

It’s not the same to accept 200 to 640 cruisers in a city compared to 6,000 plus staff. Some places are really overwhelmed!

the cruise ship that you showed in the background, the pacific explorer re the chips girl was actually our very first cruise ship and is our next cruise ship in november too

Even $8 is a lot for a bag of chips.

Red Rock Deli normal price in Aussie Supermarkets is $6.00 usually, so based on that it's not a horrible mark-up. I have seen far worse. Mind you, virtually none of us buy them at the normal price, only ever on special.

Warnings on Lice..good idea....and yes snacks at Truckstops too...I live in trucking is more visable bordering small town country..and wowza...even in clean more "nece" areas...head lice in grade school and movie theaters can happen...sigh.

2023, I cruised NCL with a 13yr old. She was asked who she was with, and I had to acknowledge she was with me each time we disembarked AND returned to the ship.

My mom and I were in a carnival cruise ship years ago. She got her hair done in the salon and they said she had lice so I was forced to give her a treatment and there were no lice. Happy it was a false alarm but a little annoyed that I had to do a lice treatment on board.

Also, sailors please remember that only sheets are changed on your cabin beds. They use the same "duvet covers" for other passengers. When you first get in your cabin, ask the person in charge of your room cleaning to bring you a fresh duvet cover and blanket. You give them the one thats already on the bed, so you can make sure it is a fresh one. I went on a 18 day Norwegian Transatlantic cruise, and i cleared the bed for my guy. He told me to leave the main cover( they reused). This is not at all sanitary!

When I was 13 living near Detroit MI I used to go to Tiger baseball games with another 13 year-old friend. No adult supervision. We would ride a public bus. If there is a minor teen unsupervised walking around I don’t think people take much notice unless the teens are misbehaving.

Let’s be honest, when you get off the ship the crew look at your photo only, that’s why they make you take your hat off. But I don’t think they look at too much more. Glad the young man is ok. It’s a shame about Amsterdam we were just there in May and had a great time! My wife loves the tours and I love the Coffee Shops! Hope ships if unable to go to Amsterdam are able to go to Rotterdam instead. The Netherlands is beautiful and should be available for cruisers. Thanks Tony! Great report on an itchy situation!! 👍

Just hearing that opening had me scratching my head and I haven’t been on a cruise since November! 😅

Back in 2010, I flew into Amsterdam the day Eyjafjallajökull erupted. With all the airport closures, I spent four more days there than I had planned. If you're going to have an unexpected few days somewhere, with no certainty as to when you'll be able to leave, Amsterdam is not a bad place to have that happen!

The original story was that the grandmother was being assisted by the crew while they were disembarking. I've never had my son allowed to leave without one of us being scanned with him. I DON'T think Princess allowed him off solo
