You can always tell they last watched a Ravens game in, at latest, January 2020. His throwing was legitimately pretty rough his rookie year (but then, he was considered a project QB coming out, and he started way earlier than planned; even then, you can see a world of improvement between preseason 2018 and late 2018), and in 2019 the run game was so insanely good that an argument could be made that his remaining deficiencies as a passer were being masked by an offense that allowed him to play against defenses focusing on the run. He noticeably improved in the 2019 offseason, but even as he went on his MVP run it was clear there was still stuff for him to clean up. But since, at minimum, the 2020 season, it's been amazing watching him take step after step forward as a passer, especially with, let's not mince words here, some pretty crappy receiver rooms, watching his throwing improve year over year or even game over game, and still hear people going "bUt hE'S a rUnNiNGbaCK," even as teams keep scheming to take away the run, daring him to win with his arm, and then watching him win with his arm.

I went to Boynton high for a semester when lamar was there, ended up moving and Changing schools. Happy to see him get the praise sometimes even tho they go after him a lot.

The craziest part about this video that wasn't mentioned is...he was doing this with 15-20+ mph winds that day. LOLWUT. Watching it live was insane because you had a real time comparison when Goff was on the field trying to throw it and the ball just kept ducking and exploding on him...meanwhile Lamar was whipping perfect spirals. It was insane. And if you are a frequent to M&T (Da Bank) Stadium...you know firsthand how crazy the wind gust can get in there, its why its one of the hardest stadiums to kick FGs in. Its why I keep saying Lamar's arm strength rivals Josh Allens. He been flicking 60 yarders like its nothing with a much quicker release.

8:35 IMO this is what separates guys like Goff/Purdy/Dak/Tua types from MVP types. When everything is right, everyone is healthy, and everyone does their job every play, sure those guys can look good. But the elites like Lamar/Allen/Mahomes can have a play break down and still be able to create elite plays out of structure. That's something you're not getting from the other guys.

@@36louieboy Oh yeah, I 100% agree with you there. I just think 1 WR doesn't make a team. And, imo, Allen is the lowest of the three there. 23:05 This was in my opinion by far Lamar's most impressive play as a QB in this game. Usually the receiver should get all the credit for 80 YAC on a dump off but Lamar essentially designs this play on the spot. He sees the two ILBs double covering Andrews and knows it's man coverage so Zay's route will open the right side of the field so changes the direction of the rollout. Gus Edwards role on this play was probably pass pro for Lamar but like JT says Lamar probably yells at Gus to slip up field the instant he decides too rollout right. Beyond impressed with Lamar's IQ both as a runner and as a passer here.

Great video. The anticipation seems better this season - like Lamar has more faith that the receiver is going to be where he's supposed to be when the ball gets there. Not sure if it's just a growth thing, more reliable receivers or just a better scheme but it's great to see. And the behind-the-back will probably be Mahomes, right? That just feels like Andy Reid in the middle of some blowout later in the season.

At this point if you don’t think Lamar is a great QB, I think you may actually be racist. I find it hilarious that I’ve seen people talk shit about Lamar and then get mad if you criticize Cousins and blame it on him Being a white Christian in 2023. Actual bizarro world we have in the NFL as fans. It’s so odd how people treat Lamar. People who criticize him like Shannon Sharpe say it’s because he’s a MVP so I will treat him like that. Fairplay. But the “he’s a rb” crowd, yikes. You’re either really really dumb or have some “bias”.

What if the 80 yard play was designed to be that way? It wouldn't surprise me if they ran the play the correct way in the past and realized how there was no one to stop the back and thought: hey we're up 28, worst case scenario is it doesn't work and we just throw it away or have Lamar try to pick up some yards on the ground.

0:52 ravens need to start running more rpo concepts like this where lamar can threaten teams with his legs and like in this clip pass the ball late to his receivers

I feel the average fan under estimates just how hard a 20 yard deep out throw is to make. Cause of the angle it’s actually like 32/33 yards, you need time on a deeper route, and you need the strength to drive the ball, because if you float it the CB will recover. It’s just become common in the NFL but for as simple he and others make it look that’s a big time throw. Personally I would believe that’s a harder throw then a sideline fade or back shoulder fade. Yes you gotta anticipate those throws but I feel they are more reliant on the WR winning. Not saying fades are easy at all, making the point that I believe driving the ball 30+ yards into a small window seems harder then a timing/rhythm fade. Jackson’s incredible tho

Im a lifelong ravens fan and have always been shocked by people, and even some of our own fans, who say lamar cant throw. Go back and watch his heisman season highlights. Hes always had a pretty strong arm and he would throw some insane balls even in college. His only issue was accuracy, and now that is definitely over. So glad ravens too the time and invested in lamar when no one else would. Not to mention paying him what he deserved when no one else would (wink wink falcons and patriots).

Lamar is not only the Ravens qb but the qb for flock nation and bmore. Like another qb the bmore got unexpectedly from Louisville who changed qb play and set records, Lamar is on his way. Just keep his uniform clean every game and no diving at his knees please!

When lamar is operating at this level, and the defense plays like they have been… they can beat anyone. Just depends on whether they find that consistent rhythm. Thankfully, they have AZ this week. Perfect matchup to get into full swing

On that busted play to Gus Edwards, I wonder if a similar purposeful play design is getting cooked up by the ravens after seeing it.

Lamar said that play to Gus Edwards was by design during his press conference. It explains why Gus was expecting the ball. What an amazing design if true haha. That's next level understanding of your player's talents and tendencies.

At 10:17 it might be giving up on a play, or more likely I think it's smart situational football - #7 Batemon tries to turn around to scramble drill in the endzone but he loses his balance and goes out of bounds, so he's inelligible. When the TD pass is made he's just standing there like a statue with his arms down. I think that's him being smart and basically letting the QB know "don't throw it to me, I'm out of the play".

Was painful as a Lions fan to try to explain to my family why the Lions defense wasn't actually playing that bad, that Lamar was just playing incredibly. They don't really get it but at least I know the Lions aren't going to see anybody close to Lamar for the rest of the season.
