When I was 2 or 3 I can somewhat remember hearing "Bay of Pigs" by machine head. Then when I was 15 or 16 I bought "The More Things Change" and once I got to Bay of pigs and heard the chorus I instantly remembered that I had heard the song before. But I didn't get into metal until 7th or 8th grade and my first album I actually bought was "South of Heaven".

First time I heard Slayer was Hell Awaits back in 85. I was heavy into Maiden at the time, and Initially I just could not get into them, because of the lack of melody relative to mainstream metal. However within a few months I became hooked, primarily because of the aggression and attitude, which resonated with me as an angry young 13-year-old LOL. Reign in Blood truly took it to a whole new level though. While i can no longer relate to the music (yeah I softened as I aged LOL) , I do appreciate that it got me through some tough times
