CF Moto is a good manufacturer. The days of none computerized manufacturing processes are gone in China - Mainstream China. Now if you want to talk political motivation wells that a horse of a different color, mainly red and communist and they have become a serious rival to the western world's domination over commerce, military and space. Do we want to feed them more money? IDK, but then again why are so many companies going to them to produce whole bikes, engines, parts, etc? And maybe that's a good thing too bc difference between countries like russia and n korea, they have not much to lose attacking us, where as China's ship would sink faster than the Titanic. And if it's one thing the Chinese are about, it's money and business. It just so happens their form of Gov't is commuism and it seems to work for them. Recall they have what 1.4biilion people? That over 4 times more people than the US has at 330M people. And I'm not so sure anymore that our form of Gov't is working so well....we are in some form of bad juju dysfunction since the conservatives have taken over.

For me - it was the 8S that took my heart and money. Love my bike - not only is the KTM built in China and the 8S in Japan, but the 8S has the bi-directional quick shifter as standard and you have to pay over £200 more for one on the KTM. One of the main selling points of the 8S is it’s high build quality and comfort. It’s my only bike, so I think the extra bit of comfort of the 8S is the smarter bike since I tour, commute and have fun on it. Great all round package. Now we just need Suzuki to make an 8RS; tuned fully-faired with clip-one on the 8S’ platform.

Great video. Having owned a KTM890R Duke from new and recently sold it, the day after which the valve cover gasket failed on the new owner(out of warranty but to be fair my KTM dealer replaced/ repaired FOC asa goodwill gesture)the only thing that I would be weary of would be reliability.I wanted to get a 3rd year warranty but Ktm don't do them but is standard on the Suzuki, one of the reasons I sold it.Although an all new bike and having test ridden the Suzuki for a WHOLE day, there is no doubt in my mind I would go for the Suzuki, better riding position, better dash and I really liked the delivery of the power from the GSX-8S(crap name)'s engine. Would very much like to see a video done of a "day in the life of lamb chops"video as a KZbinr etc and what it entails.....🤪

Basically they still are easy do-it-yourself bikes but got lazy with the new ones and have let the dealer do the servicing. No big issues up until now yet (exept the 2014 had the rear axle replaced as warranty item - there was a small play that I didn't notice but it was done anyhow by the dealer). Oh, there was: Indicator switches were replaced (they were trash from new) and one recall (for 3 electric wires) was done.

A lot of bikes have been assembled in China, including some Suzuki's, and a lot of parts have been, and are made in China. Just because of that, it doesn't mean they are made to a lower standard, even Chinese owned bikes (or at least some), are very well made, Keeway/Binelli for instance (owned by the same group). China can make them cheaper in part due to almost city sized manufacturing plants.

This video established that a heavyweight rider on a slightly faster bike will be about as quick as a lightweight rider on a slightly slower bike. Humour aside, the conclusion was well-stated. Bike reviewers may love to rave about KTMs but when having to actually spend their own money on a bike they'd sensibly opt for another brand instead.

I own a 4 month old 2023 790 (in the far nicer orange colour) and so far it’s not broken. I hope it doesn’t because it’s great to ride. My indicator switch housing had a screw only half done up but other than that it seems ok so far. That was the only thing I could find so far that wasn’t assembled right.

Tip, suzuki weight is with all fluids and ready to go for 202kgs. That why it isn't as heavy as people tought. And checking ktm too. :) I wish we had a monster poped in, as it was my comparision, with Tuono 660 that was kind of on another league. Nice video tho. Loved torque oriented GS8S, but still went with higher reving monster (937) for same price. But 8S is really torquy without beeing janky and its cool.

Good review. Ridden both & both impressive. Ktm for me. An important fact was missed. Yes the Ktm is made in China by CF Moto , which as you highlighted may put potential purchasers off, , but CF Moto have the confidence to offer a 4 year warranty on their own models ( Ktm is 2 yrs ). That says everything to me & I would not hesitate to buy the Ktm 790.

Mi è piaciuta di piu esteticamente, e la sensazione è che poteva essere PIÙ affidabile, e poi mi piace l'idea che è un progetto nuovissimo, prima generazione.

My main interest is how the engines of the Duke 790 and the Hornet compare? Track day/high speed riding performance is a lower priority for me thanks to my old age/bad eyes so engine performance/character will more accurately determine how much I will enjoy the ride. Additionally from watching many comparative videos it always seems like the reviewers are having more fun on the Hornet (?). My comment/question about the roll-on test is gear to gear how close are the actual RPM's? I know the Suzuki has significantly shorter gearing than the Hornet but not sure if it has the same (easily altered) mechanical advantage over the KTM. Also curious how different actual unit cost would be if you had to pay for all the different options you get with the "as tested" demo mode?

I’ve had my Hornet since April, 2600 miles on, I’m happy to say my wee beastie can do it all. Throttle can feel a bit choppy at slower speeds but I find it easier riding slower in sport mode & trundling around in a higher gear. Commuting is easy as bike is quite small & if you want to go quicker the engine is happy to oblige. Recently covered 230 ish miles in a day & bike performed faultlessly. Overtaking on A & B roads is a doddle & the Hornet is getting approximately 60 to 65 mpg. I’m really pleased with bike. I have seen a few GS8s out & about & really like the look of them too but for me the price was the clincher. I paid extra for the SC end can & quick shifter & pleased I did, the overall package is very good.

I have owned two KTMs and both were reliable, however they are higher maintenance than Japanese bikes. The worst two new bikes I have ever owned were Japanese, one a Kawasaki and the the other a Yamaha. My point is any of the manufacturers can build reliable and unreliable bikes. Not in the market at the moment but when the time comes I would certainly consider another KTM.

I haven't ridden either but the GSX8S would be my choice. The elephant in the room isn't necessarily the fact that it's built in China, it's the fact that too many report issues with KTMs anyway. That alone would put me off buying one.

The 390ies are made in India. So many companies do this. Factories in China, India, Thailand etc. And the components used, such as brakes, ABS, injection and other bits and pieces are made in these countries aswell. Thank you for a well made film. (I'm a happy 790 Duke owner)

After owning around 40 bikes the KTM 790 was my least favourite. Bought with 500 miles on the clock should have told me something, on the first service at KTM dealers they couldn't reset the clocks, new clocks under warranty. The suspension was poor and on anything other than super smooth road it would run wide. The engine in any town work was very stuttery on no load throttle. The seat was rock hard. I spent money on engine add-ons. it didn't fix it. I sold it at a big loss. I have a Suzuki gsxr 600 2011 L1 fantastic on the road and track days also a Ducati Monster 1100 EVO save yourself some money lots of great second hand bikes out there.

The low/mid torque of the Suzuki is the biggest selling point for me. Suzuki tends to focus on the low and mids a lot and even for advanced street riders, (whatever that means), maybe with the addition of a couple extra teeth on the rear sprocket, that could be a lot of fun, especially on the 8R. Plus Made in Japan, you can’t beat that, IMO.
