I just purchased a Taureg. You said that the off road mapping reduces the power but it actually doesn’t. The off road map turns off the Nannies and provides the strongest mapping. Urban mode is actually the weakest power delivery. Explore mode is the middle. You can however create a custom mode that mimics off road but with the power delivery cut.

The best in its class. Far better than Tenere, on road and off. Best electronics too. Seems like everybody agrees (watching KZbin videos) and I have friends with the Tenere, they want the Tuareg now. 😉 It's expensive but it's worth every penny!

I totally agree Chopsy! If you're spending most of your time on the road in an urban situation, then get a road bike, I definitely wouldn't recommend an adventure bike. If you're thinking about buying a motorcycle, one of the best questions you can ask yourself is what do you really need the bike for. I've got a Yamaha Tenere 700 and for some situations it's been a great bike, but generally it's not great around town where I mainly do most of my riding. It's quite a big bike, it has long soft suspension, it's heavy, and it has a high centre of gravity. It can be quite a handful, and it can catch you out if you're not use to riding a tall adventure bike. Even though I've enjoyed riding my Tenere 700, and it's made me a better rider, I came to the conclusion that it just wasn't the bike for me. So, last week, I bit the bullet and went out and bought myself a brand new Suzuki SV650, because my Tenere 700 will be going very soon. For my situation, and even though it's a basic bike, the Suzuki SV650 will do everything I need a bike to do, and, crucially, it's a far easier to ride around town than an adventure bike. Even though I've not done that many miles on it, so far, I've been very impressed by the Suzuki SV650; its L-twin engine sounds wonderful! So, choose your bike wisely, because in the long run you will save a heap load of cash.

Aye, I think they are equivalent to the Anakee Adventures, so mainly tarmac focussed and the odd gravel road. For UK green lanes, I'd want a more focussed tyre as they are so wet and slimy this time of year, in summer they would be fine I imagine.

I love the look of it, and here in Australia bikes like these get taken out into serious off-road conditions, but I think these smaller Aprilla’s like the 660 RS/ Tuono don’t need any electronics other than basic traction control and ABS, just a waste of money and gimmicky on a 80-100 hp bike. The RS 660 learner model is around $19000 here in Australia. Love your reviews. Thank you.

I like the Tuareg, but I do not regret buying a T7. I got my suspension from Touratech, because I'm a 100kg with gear. I would rather spend my money on proper suspension, than on fancy electronics. My T7 is a perfect companion for the Alps now. For this type of travel bike, I go with the most reliable, which is the Yamaha and not Aprilia, KTM or Husqvarna. CP2 engine is very torquey, too and sounds great.

You're so right if you're even thinking about a bike and its available at the time you better get it because you never know if you'll see it again I made mistake with the klx300 couldnt believe it would be the only one around definitely a sellers market and the dealer knows it KLR 650 everywhere but for gow long? There are a few Himalayans around also I think Ill get the KTM 500 excf before it disappears in my area.

@@kevincraig8257 yep! my husky dealer told me the 690/701 enduros are now discontinued. I then called up my KTM dealer and they said they haven’t heard that at all. So now it’s that actually is true I was going to shift towards a fe501s. So far the only thing I don’t like about it is the maintenance schedule (‘due to laziness) the vibrations I’ll have to see with a test ride. but new stuff is coming out all the time.

Hi Turboman6680, I traded in my V85TT for the Tuareg 660 and am super happy I did. I loved the MG and have had others in the past, but it's almost a 100Lbs heavier than the Tuareg, and the Aprilia's seat allows better movement. I'd say if mostly on road go with the Guzzi, but for better 50-50 look at the Tuareg because less weight and suspension are huge upgrades. The only ding on the Tuareg is that it runs really hot on your right leg due to the catalytic converter being close. Accessories are not as easy to find as they are, and when you do find them, they are quite a bit more expensive than the MG sadly. The V85TT put out no heat in my experience. Good luck.

Camera and audio is so good in your vids 👍 I opted for the 890R, the weight actually feels less on the 890. Also worth factoring in that the Aprilia will need crash bars whereas very few 890 owners fit them, that will add 7-8kg.

Must admit, it has my interest, well specifiedand the tubeless tyres and electronics package would seem worth the extra grand. I had, from new, the original Tuareg Wind 600 with the Rotax engine and it was a gem, will there be a decent dealer network and backup though ? there was not back then, did not even stock spare levers or clutch cable back then... just basic service parts.

I had one of the Original 562cc Rotax single Tuaregs too, bought it secondhand and used it for a bit of everything including a two up trip to the south of France 😁. It was a great bike but as you said, dealer support was practically non existent. I struggled to replace an indicator lense that I damaged in a low speed drop, luckily I spotted that it was the same part fitted to Triumphs of the time and sourced one from them. Great memories of riding that bike👍👍

Good review 👍 Its a great bike! Ive just swapped to a '24 Tuareg this week from another mid size adventure that retails at about 3k more (!) and I am far happier with the Tuareg. It handles better; sounds better; imo looks miles better and it is just way more fun to ride! After two long days on it I didnt want to put it away and I cant wait to get back on it.. I really feel like I am riding it, whereas it felt like there were layers of insulation between me and the ground on my previous bike. Re weight, if intended for any real off road it needs a decent bash plate and crash bars which will add about 10kg. If you want to see what it can do off road in capable hands watch some of Ad Will's videos on North Wales.

This is great but it says two things to me. Firstly that 660cc would transfer to the V4 engine at 1320cc so if they need to get through emissions or a little more power its a maybe. Mostly though this shouts there may well be a V4 version in the wings. Personally I think these smaller capacities make more sense for an adventure bike but there still seems to be a massive market for large (over) engined adv bikes which almost never see dirt.

Your complaint about the power off road was because you were in the wrong mode for off roading like a dirt bike. Go to the individual mode and you can adjust the power delivery and ABS controls (front ON rear OFF) and other variables. Aprilia doesn't charge you $800 extra for that feature like KTM does. The Taureg is much more refined on and off road than the KTM.

Had a look at one at my local dealer last week and it looked a bit plasticky & cheap. Thought my T7 looked better quality. They didn’t have a demo bike yet, due later this month. How was the CoG on it? I think the KTM 890 and Tiger 900 Rally are pretty low, T7 carries it up high. Would be fantastic if you can do a comparison with the T7, Tuareg, Desert X and Tiger Rally Pro giving you a £9500 to around £14000 price range.

Saw on another review of the Tuareg that it also carries its fuel tank lower than other bikes, similar to KTM, and that it even has a small pocket storage space where the tank would normally sit in the higher position.

If Piaggio got their act together and sorted the Aprilia dealer network out they would be a real challenger for the likes of KTM and even the likes of Ducati… their bikes have the ability, quality, reliability and Italian design flair and desirability already just need to have dedicated dealers… no one wants to take a £24k RSV4 Factory to a scooter shop! I am not the average buyer as I have been a motorcycle technician so happy to look after my RSV4, and even better it’s easy to work on.

I think maybe a better way to ask the question is "How often will you have to turn around and go back because you wont continue the road with the bike you are riding?" Ok, maybe not a better way, but that's why I ride an adventure bike with knobblies when I'm out exploring. Sometimes you just need to get though a 1/4 mile of ruts-n-muck to keep on going.

Awesome to hear your thoughts on the bike, I loved the engine on the Tuono 660. I think in standard form, this is still a bit tall for folk like me, so would need Aprilia to release the low seat, and possibly some aftermarket suspension lowering. My V85TT is an 830mm seat height, and even with the preload set at it's softest, I still occasionally struggle to get a foot down... that is a much wider motorcycle though. I can't wait to get a demo though, it is a very interesting bike for the adv riders out there! 🙂

I appreciate this is easy for me to say, but the roads looked quite dry....I think you're underestimating the road going ability of those tyres, just a tad.

Shame that he has no experience with Dual sports bike or he would not be so afraid of the knobs tires!! Little he knows how much you can rip on the twists with this tires! Just short of "track day"... that's how good they are... and I know from experience of having them on my 790R and ripping on the famous "The Dragon" in Tennessee

Having the bike sprung for your actual weight, rather than the standard 180lbs rider, might take care of the on road handling. Thoughts?
@LambChopRides
@LambChopRides 3 жыл бұрын
Yes it would, but any stiffer would have made the offroad worse. Was actually not using the full travel on the front so not sure any stiffer would have helped much...
