G'day mr Chops. Loved the video. This bike is the ultimate Cafe Racer full stop. it's something the Brits do very very well. In my younger day it was the Velo Thruxton, BSA Goldie, Triton and the Norvin,there's a lot more in that category to come. All brilliant.

Best thing about watching this, is staring at a pair of proper clocks. Analogue. Not digital. No bar code bollocks. And certainly no ridiculous TFT screen. Chops goes on about the wonderful handling - lets not forget this is old school twin shock - i'm trying to think of another 2020 performance bike that has twin shocks. I cant. Everything is dreary monoshock. I'd probably have the Speed Twin over this as i'm not young anymore and it would be, not a better, but more practical day to day bike. Good vid, get yersen a go on the ST.
@susanmaggiora48004 жыл бұрын
Michael Hayward Yes! I have no idea why digital speedos on cars & bikes have become all the rage. I remember when they did the same with automobiles in the 80’s & that look aged very poorly. I would much rather look at analog gauges. Maybe I’m just hopelessly outdated..
@volt7cooltangs7012 жыл бұрын
I’ve got a Thruxton 1200 and altought the analogue dials look amazing I find to read while riding they are terrible, even for analogue clocks, not enough contrast. Old Triumph clocks were great, white dials on a black face very easy to read. TBH sometimes I wish in had an optional digital Speedo and bigger digital Gear indicator.

Picked mine up 4 weeks ago, the racing green/silver one. I agree about the gearbox, it does seem clunky. Might just be because it's new and being run in. Torque is sooooo addictive. So much grunt. I find the suspension quite firm but I am smaller and lighter than you. One downside is V & H no longer do slip ons as an option because of Euro bloody five but standard pipes sound good anyway and there are other aftermarket ones to go for. Leaving mine alone for now though. Great vid, enjoyed watching.

Great video mate! I love the changes Triumph have made. I had the 2017 R in silver, no cowl. I added black Vance&Hines pipes, decat and remapped the ECU; the improvement in performance was definitely noticeable but the new sound was beautiful. I loved touring with it. Only two downsides were the weight, 212kg dry, which sits high making it heavy to maneuver manually, and a crap turning circle.

I purchased a R.E. Continental GT 650 when the Triumph dealer pissed me off and wanted MRSP for a demo bike with 300 miles on it. I still have the GT and done everything to it but the S&S Big Bore. I'm now looking at the Kawi z900rs/cafe or Speed Twin or Thruxton RS. If I get one of the Kawis or Speed Twin, I'll have cash to do the 865 big bore kit on the Enfield and or get the parts from India to turn into an Interceptor (roadster). The R.E.s don't compare if you want power, and even with a Big Bore will only put out 65 Bhp. For the money I've spent on Ohlins Suspension, Tyres, S&S Cam, and other parts I could have purchased that Thruxton R. No regrets.

Tbf the older Thruxton 1200 standard and R models will still give you the lovely torque rush that Lamb Chop describes but bhp is up on these at 105bhp. The 1200 R and Standard model were quoted at 96bhp but I dynoed mine at 85.7 bhp at the rear wheel and 71.44 foot lbs of torque. So they are not fast but lovely to ride sedately on that wave of torque. All power and torque on mine fell away at 105mph I kid you not. Must be deliberate engine management from Triumph.
@flamintasty Жыл бұрын
Wrong. Your figure at the back wheel is wheel horsepower. The figure Triumph quote is a crank figure, aka brake horsepower. The reason wheel horsepower is lower than brake horsepower, is due to transmission losses.

The range, so I have the very similar Speed Twin, which also has a 14.5 litre tank. I wouldn't say I'm a speed freak, so I probably ride it way slower than most others. I get around 53 MPG. Triumph claim about 57 MPG. MCN type road testers report something like 45 MPG. So on the Speed Twin my riding style the range to empty is about 170 miles. MCN road tester types, their range to empty about 143 miles. The range indication on the display on my Speed Twin is a bit pessimistic. When I calculated it , I found it to be between 26 and 35 miles pessimistic. (i.e. fill up to brim, calculate MPG, how much of the 14.5 litres was still in the tank, look at what the range said just before I filled up ) I assume Triumph are using pretty much the same electronics on the Thruxton, so in the video when it says 120 miles , it's probably 150 miles before you do actually run out of petrol . Yes, both the Thruxton and Speed Twin need a bit larger tank. I did moan to Triumph on the survey they sent me last year :)
@LambChopRides4 жыл бұрын
OK interesting, we did a fill up comparison at the weekend. Best on fuel by quite a bit was the KTM 890 R, The Thruxton was next and only 0.30 litre more was the new GSXR1000RR. So its litre sportsbike thirsty which surprised me...
