Picked mine up in January. Love it. Stuck a WIngs exhaust on. XTrig preload adjuster, Twin Air foam filter and fuel dongle. The stock preload adjuster on these is terrible, really hard to adjust. Rear shock is really easy to remove though and fit the XTrig PLA. PCV and Seat Concepts seat next I think.

I had a 2010 690 Duke and that bike was the most fun I’ve had on two wheels. Front brake upgraded to billet Brembo master cylinder, billet Brembo HPK caliper and Braketech billet iron 320mm rotor. It could take 1000cc sportsbikes going into corners on the front wheel. In comparison, my new ABS equipped bike feels like it has wet sponges for calipers. Nova gearbox, sigma clutch, Akra system and KTM cam also helped the fun factor.

I've spent 19 weeks shielding, looking at Supermoto videos, deciding that because I'm old and heavy I need one of the bigger bikes, like the 701 or 690. I'm so pleased you mentioned how much you weigh (I've rocketed up to 19.5 stone) and that the spring kit really helps. This bike is definitely on my radar after owning an SV650S for 16 years.

Great vid💥 A video on wheelies specifically with the difference in traction control from 1, 2 & off would be really good. Especially for anyone looking to buy an SMCR with wheelies in mind or who recently got one! I just got my new one road registered yesterday - can’t wait to get going but think I’m gunna invest in a set of leathers before I turn the traction control off 😊
@TCat174 жыл бұрын
Not necessary... do NOT learn or calibrate your wheelies with traction control on. It's like the bike is fighting you. It's an awful feeling too if youre not an expert at wheelies. AND more importantly you will really mess yourself and the feel for your bike up when you deactivate traction control and start wheelying. THE ONLY scenario Id reccomend wheelying with traction control activated is if youre very new at wheelies and just want to get a feel for what it's like when the front wheel comes up, if you dont overload the throttle when doing this, then the traction control will safely set you back down each time. Just dont attempt to maintain or dial in your throttle with traction control on... only for getting a feel for popping up and coming right back down...if you try to learn anything about throttle control with traction control on, you could set yourself up poorly for when you turn it off. And as always, the key to wheelies for anyone other than the best in the world, it is ALL about the rear brake.
@simsimmer2504 жыл бұрын
Tyler , I think that’s what’s happening to me. Trying to get the wheel up with traction control on is difficult. I had a KTM 640 years ago and that was so easy to wheelie out of corners,off the lights,everywhere. Been disappointed the the 690 in that respect but seems I just need to turn TC off ! 👍

Have a 2019 enduro r have done 6000 miles not needed to put any oil in mine. I also thought traction control button was dodgy at first but hold it down for 5 seconds and release, it will deactivate every time. Would be handy if they had instructions for that in handbook. Have to agree I've had blades ZZRs and have a multistrada 1260s also, but this bike is so much fun. You can get a real buzz at sensible speeds and overtake sports bikes in the twisties even on nobblies. Great machine would highly recommend

I had a 2018 Husqvarna 701 SM and friggin loved it with no problems or complaints whatsoever. Someone stole it from just outside the pit entrance at Laguna Seca in the middle of the night🤯😠😞 Replaced it with 2019 690 SMC-R. Gripe list - 1. Front rotor went to shit and pulses w/in 1k kilometers (couple of track days - but I'm not a big front braker). 2. My traction control is wonky. User error? Not sure but it always takes at least 2-3 tries to turn off. Highly annoying. TC on a Supermoto? Meh. 3. On the track the quick shifter works flawlessly. On the street... WTF? at least two to three missed shifts going to work about 20 kilometers. I'm thinking 50%user error and 50%mechanical. Different boots? Again, pretty annoying. 4. Different fueling and power delivery compared to the Husky 701. 690 is temperamental and jerky - especially when clutching up the front end. 701 was butter smooth and dialed in from the show room floor. Does Husky have different emission standards and scrutiny than KTM? Seems like it. I know I am nitpicking but the bottom line is if I could trade my 690 to get my 701 back I would do it in a heartbeat. 701 was smooth and dialed in and felt more analog like a proper Supermoto should. It reminded me of my Honda XR650R Supermoto if it had EFI. Just my experience and opinion. Slow and painful death to all bike thieves!

I’ll have to try the tail tidy trick! It looks funny with the plate hanging way out on mine. I spend the money on the KTMTWINS/Rottweiler mirrors, different shifter off a 500EXC, threaded bar end weights, Wings exhaust/carbon fiber gear guard like yours, and Seat Concepts seat. So didn’t really want to spend more on a tail tidy... I will try your fix to see what it looks like. I noticed you clutching a lot ... do you prefer to not use the quick shifter? I don’t use it between 1st and 2nd gear , but shift up from there to 6th with it a lot , and sometimes I down blip with it but find it notchy on the down shift sometimes ... so I use the clutch downshift a lot more than up shift. Got about 4100 miles on mine and had for a year. Be sure to change oil more often than they say... I find metal shavings an I would hate to leave those in there long. I have changed mine at 600, 2300, 4100 miles already.... gotta take it to dealer for that 6000 mile once I get there. I did the 600 myself. I love it but would be nice to have the SuperDuke or 890. My biggest gripe is with the false neutrals and crappy dash. I put foam rally grips on too ... I’m a little sensitive to the vibrations more than some and my hand tends to go numb with the big single if I don’t move it sometimes. Still nice bike !
@LambChopRides4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I mainly shift up on the clutch unless I'm really going for it. I'm the same on most bikes if I'm honest.. blipper is great though I find. I would also change oil every 3k miles good tip. I did that on my 701

Your bang on with the road resurfacing work the council's do these days, shocking it's obviously the same country wide. They are going to put up your council tax Significantly next year, yes with a capital $. The thing we need to do as bikers is report the gravel on the road to the Council and if they don't come out and sweep up the excess report it again and report it with the local Police as a dangerous driving condition. Council would be better fixing the road properly in the first instance. The claims they get for chipped paint and windscreen damage alone out way the savings they make on this piss poor resurfacing technique. Rant over! Nice bike though 😁

Nice video, thanks chopsy. I'm contemplating a ktm 690 enduro r (have a yamaha T7 and Africa twin DCT at the moment) but can't get a test ride.. I've heard the gearing isn't great, as in a very tall first gear and the rest very short, so not great for off road or motorway.. Do you find that to be the case? Cheers matey.
@LambChopRides4 жыл бұрын
It's a compromise as the bike needs to be good at both. Just reviewed the 701 enduro last month, if you want really tight gnarly offroad then it's a bit tall geared but will sit at 70 mph on the motorway all day..

Thursday morning "Chopsy" fix. Two questions. Firstly, how much are the spring kits and secondly if you don't get to keep the bike can I have first refusal from KTM?😁😎👍
@LambChopRides4 жыл бұрын
Not sure on exact price Neil but springs kits normally about 100 quid for shock and same for fork springs. Not an outrageous amount of cash 👍

How does your SMCR differ from the 701 you had, other than the oil consumption?
@LambChopRides4 жыл бұрын
Yeah it's way smoother and faster with the new engine. Suspension is also slightly better with a more refined feel I would say. Plus the QS of course on this one.

@@LambChopRides What year was your 701, 2016? I have a 2017 and it's the new, smoother motor. Doesn't burn oil either. I do like the orange and black of your SMCR better!

So i was told by service that they cant do the cheap tailtidy because removing the plate light will cause errors in computer of the bike.... any comments of people who did it ?

I've got the TST assembly. Have yet to install. Waiting on some other parts.

@@eddiebones20 Ive seen that one or a similar one on supermotofools, the only problem is that its too small to me and i realy like the look of the standard one... only this thing that ktm suggested to me that removing the plate light will cause errors in the computer of the bike is bothering me... 🤔Thanks tho because after your comment i watched the video from TST about the assembly and i see they got their own plate light so im thinking i could just buy the plate light and do the "simple" tail tidy like Lamb chop and just add the TST plate light and wire it up 🤔🤔🤔

just a thought here I have seen case law example where a man wheelied and was given a penalty, he then went to court and showed video evidence of himself exercising complete control of the motorbike, the case was dismissed. wheelie penalties are control issues.... if you can prove you had complete control no problem... there is no law against wheelies...

The chippings on the roads are an absolute joke. I live in Cornwall and most popular riding roads will always have chippings put on them. Completely ruins the ride.
