I've been out with PB & Mr Mcintyre again testing three of the sweetest triples in existence. Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground, Mr Ben Rea from the IOM TT none the less and three of the best middleweight nakeds on the planet, let the fun commence!
The full review is in this months copy of PB, found in all good (and bad) newsagents.

Having read a few comments below, there is confusion about the results, so here they are: - Brutale tops out at 152 mph (245kmh) - Qtr Mile 12.1@128, - the Triple RS is 150mph (241kmh) Qtr Mile 11.6@130, and - the MT09 is limited to 129mph (207kmh) Qtr Mile 11.7@129

@@Chris-bd6uc on the dash it topped out at 140mph but the data logger said 129mph (start at 8:40 in the video and you'll hear). Sounds like Yamaha limit the bike to 9,000rpm in top. Probably something that a tune could resolve (but realistically who wants to ride a naked above that speed?)

While these three bikes are considered in the same category their marketed to completely different groups. Personally I think the triumph is the best and most well rounded of the 3. The Yamaha is the most amount of bike for the money and the mv is for people with money who want something a little different and special. All beautiful machines and all great at what they do.
@padrescout
@padrescout 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that sound about right. The Yamaha I'd describe more as "hoon bike, with more engine than chassis for people that just want to go fast and don't care about the overall experience" but what you said sounds way less biased. So I like your way better.

also the RR is so much more costly and really should be in tested against similar HP machines, so really it didnt do as well as I would have expected....my brothers standard Brutale 800 2017 has been in the shop a few times already with clutch issues and is currently there again, so to hear these guys mention that the clutch is shit did not surprise me...my MT09SP just goes and goes, no issues...and the price difference is huge in Australia and that's for the standard Brutale vs the mt09sp and same goes for the triple mentioned in this test ..its heaps dearer than the 09sp ... I see so many fan boys raging about how their bike is the best.. my opinion, is they are all brilliant and all very different...the MV Agusta800 RR is by far the sexiest hands down and the trumpy is bug eyed ugly...and the looks of the MT09sp is somewhere in the middle ...

although the mt 09 is less powerful, it does very well, as can be seen in the 4-mile at 11.7 sg,.. getting 2nd,.., but the mv augusta is without a doubt the machine of this cc, .. it's really brutal ,.,. and it has an amazing speed,.. in short, they are all good machines, without a doubt,.. I would go with mt 09 , because I like the concept of the mt series ,..and also because it is perhaps the cheapest to maintain ,.. and offers good reliability!!

The question is, did the MT-09 hit 129 mph before the 1/4 mile? And if so, how long before the 1/4 mile was up? This would give some indication as to how much better it would have done. It almost certainly would have taken 1st place because it was right on the coattails of the Street Triple, which was not limited to 129.

I love that you have taken the middle weight triples out for a spin. However the poor quarter mile times that you are getting due track conditions, no warm up, too few tries and cold weather are not comparable with how the bikes perform optimally. Any one of them is capable to shaving of a whole second at the 402m line. No real shootout, at least in the vid. But that said, I'm looking forward for the road session. ^^

I managed to 150 on the basic Rosso 800 last night on a very bumpy Island road in the south of Thailand. I think it would have gone even faster but it's a dangerous road so I slowed down. So this bike should be able to do a lot more than 156 because my brutale Rosso is the base model, and I can already get 156 out of that on the street, never mind the racetrack and it's not an RR or a dragster

I well remember when I started riding in 1980 reading a road test in Bike magazine called "Sweet and Sour 750s", where they compared the Kawasaki Z750 with another 750 - a Suzuki maybe. The Kwacker did the standing quarter in 12 seconds flat. So, not much progress in terms of the quarter mile!! Probably due to modern emissions requirements.

Because of the supermoto seating position, and all of your weight on the back wheel, rather than leaning forward and having any weight on the front, the front end gets upset at high speed, and starts to wobble. I don't like taking mine over 100 mph, but that's okay because the torque is unreal.

The only thing i Don't like with the dragster is the seat was too short. It doesn't fit with the overall looks of the bike

And this shootout proves the factory bikes are saddled with emissions garbage, the riders don't do drag strip racing, and it's advisable to use duct tape on paint. Yamaha makes 131 bhp (crank) with an ECU flash and full exhaust. Put a Z900 out there with similar tuning, 144 bhp crank. No idea about the MV Brutale having ECU flashes on market.

It’s a pity you had a restricted MT09. An unrestricted one would av blown them all away.
@fyorbane

Psycho Paul - It's not restricted. The Yam MT 09 [ALL VERSIONS] make 113 hp [around 105 at the back wheel]. The Striple 765 RS makes around 118 hp at the back wheel. Considerably more. The Z900 and Striple 765 R BOTH make around 112 at the back wheel. The MV 800 RR 140 hp at the crank [claimed]. So you see sunshine it lacks top end compared to the others. The Yams strength is it's low and mid-range which is better than the RS and MV.

Boz there’s a rev limiter on 5th and 6th gears which restricts it to 139 mph. Have the ecu flashed and it will do 151.

MT-09 is very unstable at higher speeds. Maybe it's kinda "repaired" with SP suspensions, but still has no chance against the Street on curves. Had the MT-09, now I have the Street, and DAMN... I want that sexy italian... It's the never ending game xD (Sorry my english)
