Yes, I am that old! I had his books when I was a kid! My first introduction to horse training. A lot of it is still applicable but has been improved with modern horsemanship.

I used Professor Beery's lessons throughout my about-to-be published young adult horse novel called Epona's Gift! Fun seeing this here. Thanks for posting! #eponasgift

www.jessebeery.com/ now has the Jesse Beery Course in Horsemanship and other products! See below: Rick, this is a very well-done article! I so appreciate your interaction with the family and preserving the history of Jesse Beery. I have been a student of Jesse Beery for decades and have followed much of what the Jesse Beery School of Horsemanship has done through the years until they sold the school. My understanding is the school has passed through multiple hands and really isn't be promoted any more. Over the years we have re-created the Jesse Beery products including the Course in Horsemanship, the Beery 4-Way Riding and Training Bit and the Jesse Beery Pulley Bridle. We have the original 8 Volume Course in printed form, as a PDF download and an audio book version as well. We have posted countless articles regarding Jesse Beery and his training methods on our blog here: horsetrainingresources.com/blog/training-tips/who-was-jesse-beery/ Keep up the great work. Thanks, Rick. Charlie @ horsetrainingresources.com/

Professor Beery was famous, he could drive a horse without a bridle! I know a nice man who had his books, but someone kept them!

Hi Rick! This is an excellent history and overview of Jesse Beery. As the primary seller of many of the Jesse Beery training books, Beery 4-Way Training and Riding Bit, the Beery Pulley Bridle, and much more, I appreciate the continued exposure of Jesse's excellent and relevant methods and understanding of how a horse thinks and how he applied his training methods to solve most problems with any horse. I provide free downloads of some of Jesse's information and also sell his books in printed, download, audio books, and others. You can see all his products at either www.JesseBeery.com or at www.horsetrainingresources.com/beery/ - and you can get free training and riding emails to help you with your horse problems.

He must have really hated horses. That big cart wheel bit is a true torture device.

I agree about the strange pulley bridle, and I'm not impressed with the old cowboy way of laying them down. So outdated. Was not impressed either with the pic of the horse in the buggy rearing and scared because he tied tin pans behind him. He just happened to be the first of that era to publish that type of book so readers took it as the gold standard.

Just the opposite, he made thousands of dangerous horses useable safe horses that were loved by their owners. And saved many horse and human lives by doing so.

Why no interviews with modern horse trainers? It would've been enlightening to hear what they think rather than it just being a Beery puff piece.

I remember Prof. Beery's horse training course, with it's many pamphlets, being advertised consistently in horse magazines. I see many people in the comments that have used his methods. I've seen those booklets.
