I would still advise looking at a modern long travel slack hardtail before diving into a full suspension bike. They are very capable and seriously under rated. I ride one of these and can keep up with friends on some pretty rough downhill runs. Hardtails also build speed better on trails that lend themselves to pumping.

@@TheAllEngineering I'm going to stop you right there when you mention abilities...emtb's open the door for so many people who have ailments or disabilities that would prevent them from being able to enjoy getting out on the trails. Next up would be older people and out of shape people who don't have the time to cardio train hours upon hours to build up the endurance for any sort of distance rides. The last point is emtbs are just FUN, and that's what most people who ride are looking for. It's like comparing a flagship smartphone (emtb) to a flip phone from 2007 (hardtail). On that note, full suspension bikes are always faster than a hardtail, given the same rider. You sound like you can rip on your hardtail, well, you'd be even faster on a full squish. And more comfortable. That's another reason people prefer them, they beat your body up much less than a hardtail. Emtb are supreme fun, standard full squish are next for the reasons above and the fact that you don't have to be 110% focused on every single root, dip, rock, obstacle like you do on a hardtail.

It is a beast of a hard tail and is very fast and light with the tubeless tires. I don't like 3.0 tires but 2.8 is nice, it brings the bottom bracket up too for clearance. I think bike radar did a test between 2.8, 2.6, and 2.3 tires the 2.8 was faster in almost all the test. Who needs a new bike when you've got blond bobo to ride at home? Done exactly the same. Had a 90's rigid mtb just got too old and worn out for the flat paths I was riding. Wasn't sure if I was going to get into mtb so looked at £200 Halfords ( walmart ) stuff but decided that wasn't quite good enough. Bit hard, bartered and got a new 2017 Giant Talon 3 for £400, spent 4-500 over the next year fixing the stuff that broke and making it better. Did a bike park day 18 months after getting it and realised I was getting towards the limits of a budget XC bike even with new forks. 2 weeks later convinced myself I need a new 2k Whyte T-130s trail bike. 9 months later I'm sure a 150-170 enduro might be a good idea and god knows how much money I've spent on "gear" over the last couple of years.

I ride for the local composite team(4 of the local highschools) and I do just as well on a hard tail as some people do with full suspension

I skipped. I bought a use 2003 devinci remix 3 full suspension used. Then a year later while saving for a trek fuel Ex8 a used 9.9 (3 month old used) came up for the same price as an ex8. So now I rock the 9.9 and couldn't be happier

My first real mountain bike, a Voodoo Bizanga, was bought complete, and later upgraded by me with better parts. I did not torque the crank properly my first ride, and it fell off, still clinging to my cleat as I toppled over, lol. It was a really nice riding bike. My second, and last mountain bike was an Indy Fab Deluxe, with full XTR, and Chris King hubs. I’m now retired.

I just want the satisfying look/feeling a suspension does, like rock climbing cars, suspensions or shock absorbers are just so sat

I've been riding for 8 years+ both ht and squish, most of the dudes that buy full suspension right out the gate overestimate themselves and can't ride for shit. Plus the extra balance and control going down technical stuff on a ht might help burn some of that extra fat. 🤙
