Awesome words Alister… and such respect for you for sharing. As farmers we invest so much of our energy helping our animals- and your videos prove that- but often no one thinks of the farmer. You said it in a video some time last year to lean on a gate and speak to a mate- what a powerful positive message - one that has resonated to the other side of the world.

I've been there mate, with chronic PTSD and depression. I reached out and got treatment and it changed my life. I recommend it, reach out and talk to someone. I hate seeing time and time again veterans that have taken their lives that might have been saved if they spoke to the right people.

Great end note mate, I live with someone who has depression and have been to low point where she has attempted to harm herself. We sought help and it has been 14 years of onwards and upwards from there. There is no stigma attached to mental health issues as there was in the past, and while it looks bleak before getting help, I urge anyone to take the step and reach out to get back on track again. It takes a bit but please make a start. Great video Alistair, it’s great to see the concern and care that you take with each of the ewe’s during lambing. Jenna cracked me up when that ewe chewed on a piece of membrane and she commented “that will be gross for some people” 😅😅 as it’s the first thing I thought too.

Absolutely spot on message re depression and treatment Alistair, I am a registered psych nurse for some 44 years. I have seen many many people suffering from depression and its a far better treatment pathway when you have someone to share it with. Reach out and never give up!

Well said on mental health mate. It's such an important thing to be able to talk about.

Thoughts with your community it's takes a lot to talk about your problems and hits the farming community here in the UK a lot of farmer's take there lives and sometimes leave your families behind which I can never get my head around, I'm very lucky as small group of us go for a pint most Thursday night which helps us a problem shared is problem halved is very true. Keep up the great work.

11.8 ouch. No thank you. Dealing with a drunk mate! Love it. Yes it sure does seem to help to steady them for a while. Luckily haven’t struck it yet with my tiny flock. Got 10 girls due in Sept. Can’t wait, all will be delivering F3s. Feel like that’s the half way mark. At age 65, hoping to get to the end lol. Glad your grass is growing. Winter time is an especially a time to care for mental health. The lack of sun plays a big part. Rather than recluse inside by the fire, we need to make time for good friends helping each other all the way. ‘Check on ya mates’. Mental health should not be closeted issue, but sadly it is, especially for men. Respect for you Alister for being open and showing it’s OK to share. Life is far too precious to not share and care.

Awesome video Alistair I totally agree with you regarding depression and talking to people and letting them know what you are going through. I been dealing with it for the last 5 years with my back injury and the black dog nearly won in March of this year. I found not being afraid to tell people is these you can do and good couciling help. On a different note I was looking into you probably with lamb percentage have you looked at crystal's extra HE sheep block they might be worth trying you will see what I mean when you look it up

Me too Alistair. Been there, done that. All good now but very aware of the triggers. Talk, talk, talk. Ask for help. Don't think that you can cope. We all need help sometimes. Reach out if you need help or if you notice a mate who's struggling. Be kind to yourself.

I remember Wal Footrot being affected by the north wester. The dog was in the first frame saying....Wal has taken the northwester really bad. The 2nd frame is a picture of Wal from behind, butt naked and looking out towards the beach. Frame 3 is back to the dog saying....At least he remembered to put his hat on this time!! I always sign my letters to my NZ friends ‘The Dog’🐾 Do you think the strong tups are making some of the lambs too big or is this fairly normal amount of lambing assists?

I love footrot flats as well. Could be feeding, big terminal rams and or older ewes

Effects of the Nor Wester The heat and lack of moisture characteristic of nor'westers play a major role in the intermittent droughts experienced by Canterbury and other regions on New Zealand's eastern coasts.[citation needed] The Nor'wester has a deep psychological effect on many people subjected to its hot, dry nature. It has been statistically linked to increases in suicide and domestic violence.[2] About 10 percent of people affected by the nor’wester feel elated and wonderful. But the rest feel depressed, irritable, and lacking energy. People feel they can’t cope with everyday things. ... There is irrational anxiety and a sense of foreboding. - Neil Cherry

If the Nor wester is affecting people that much I would suggest they have some other underlying issues.

Thank you Alistair for speaking out. Depression is a nasty companion and there is help out there. I myself have mental issues and braindamage from stress and depression, it is so important that we reach out when we struggle. Also it is fantastic to follow your family and the work you do, well done. We are heading into the fall soon, (northern hemisphere) and watching the spring come around down your way, makes the winter easier to get through. Great work, and have a fantastic day ✌

@@Connor6569 yes agreed but the knowledge we have about the nor wester we can be better prepared
@nicktorea40174 ай бұрын
@@Connor6569 you're absolutely correct the Nor Wester exacerbates a preexisting condition. But with that knowledge we can be extra vigilant & prepared. Thank God for Neil Cherry & his work in this field
