I explain in detail my method of lambing. I talk about feed, supplements, pen size and everything in-between. Its essentially a farm tour of my lambing operation. Great watch for beginners and people just starting out.

Hello I run a similar set up in Ireland. There is a product that keeps foxs away from young lambs called "Orlden" its made in Co.Down. i have used it for the last 3 seasons and lost no lambs to fox, the lambs would be 4-7 days old. another handy tip maybe to colour code the numbers on the lambs and ewes. i use green numbers for singles, red for twins and blue for triplets.
@gwenyngruffydd5 жыл бұрын
Richard Davis hi! Il look up that product sounds interesting!! Colour coding the numbers is a brilliant idea!! Will definitely be doing that this year! Thanks for the comment 😊

I farm in co down as well.using orlden 4 years never lost a lamb first 3years.last year a fox took 6in one week even with the orlden.needless to say that fox is dead now

Hello from Indiana U.S. Nice videos about lambing tips. We are about to have our first Lincoln Longwool lambs in April. Excited! We have two guardian donkeys, very sweet but they do not not like dog-type predators. I love Wales and will be in Scotland and Yorkshire in July. Keep the videos coming. Dana Goodman
@gwenyngruffydd4 жыл бұрын
Dana Goodman hi Dana! Thanks for the message! 😊 good luck with new lambs!! 😁 the lambs will be the same. The biggest enemy of the sheep in Wales are foxes and domestic dogs! Scotland and Yorkshire are beautiful places! Hope you enjoy your holiday there!😊

I agreed with everything but I feel you keep them in the bonding ones way to long and inside way too long too.we leave them in bonding pen for a day or two that’s about it.
@gwenyngruffydd3 жыл бұрын
Sometimes it is like that, all depends on how many lamb at the same time. Agree with you though a day or two is enough time to bond.

good video.... i bought a barn conversion on a farm... the farmer has retired and just has a dozen or so sheep... i thinking of hiring one of the fields of him and buying some young lambs to fatten up and for meat and keep a couple to breed .. which would be the most cost effective way in doing it.... buy yews or young / orphaned lambs....
@gwenyngruffydd3 жыл бұрын
Lambs will be to expensive to buy in the spring. You could buy some store lambs later in the season and get them on good grass to finish them. I would buy breeding ewes and lamb them. You can either sell them lamb an ewe. Or just sell the lambs and then do it all again! 😁 Orphaned lambs never sell for a good price. They will never be as big as a lamb reared off the ewe.

yes, the main source of food for the lamb is the others milk. Hay and pellets are good for heath and growth of the lamb

Hi mate. Thanks for the insight into tour lambing routine. It is similar to mine, though I imagine that you run more on than I do. I use a building like yours but also have some old buildings as well. Your ideas and methods are almost the same as mine. Up here some neighbours lamb on the open moor but I like them at home for convenience and it beats fiddling about in poor weather and darkness. We will start lambing very soon, although we had one in early January- it's dad must have been a wall jumper! I hope your time goes well and we all hope that the weather will be on our side, it is unusually mild here atm. Thanks for the vid and good wishes for the season. Johnny. Northwest England.

We use livestock guardian dogs (maremmas) that live out with the flock all year round on the mountain protect from foxes, and also aerial predators (ravens etc) since having the dogs our losses are 0. We are based in south wales and have a Facebook page facebook.com/caecanol if you wanted to see what they are about. Really informative good video and lots of helpful hints 👍 subscribed and will be looking out for more. Cheers.

1 per 30 is a good number. We have only got around 50 ewes and have 2 rams to cover them. I’m sure 1 would do it quite easy. But the more you have the better chance of them lambing together I suppose and get it finished in one cycle. What sheep do you keep?

Most of my tups are friendly lads too, makes working with them easy but got one who I think is going to be a pain in the backside as he’s so skittish! 🙈
