Sorry to hear about this man. Honestly though, lots of people are doing crazy things, the break and expect coverage. I’ve heard of people putting superchargers, major mods etc. That said, I am guessing they don’t understand what happened-should have got clarity. That said, Ferrari is far worse. Trust me
@carproblems8547

I'm not arguing that some mods shouldn't void your warranty, and maybe I should have touched on that more in the video. Any huge increase in power from tuning, turbos, superchargers, etc, I get that being an issue. Even bigger aftermarket wheels, given that the car is all-wheel drive, I could see that being an issue if something went wrong. But it's pretty unheard of for a catback exhaust system to "damage" a car, especially one that the dealer themselves would happily install.

Most new car dealers look for any reason to not honor their warranty. This was true when the hellcats came out and Dodge tried to void warranties because the owners installed cold air intakes. There is a law in the US that basically states that if the modification done to the car cannot be proved to be the cause of the failure, then they have to honor the warranty. Check into what Canadian law says.

@Kent Harmon Isn't showing a problem currently is a valid point, but it's not a fake claim since they did find the error when checking the codes. Also, refusing work with the reason given as being the third party exhaust, esp. when the error happened before the exhaust was put in, is a scummy move.

@@texchu8331 Coming from a techs perspective, when trying to repair anything, if you can't replicate it you can't properly diagnose. I've had multiple cars come in for diagnostics that took 2 weeks to finally replicate and others we simply cannot replicate. Misfires can be caused by faulty o2 sensors, injector, plug and engine issues. How they went about the warranty was kind of ridiculous.

Normally any kind of technical modification voids your warranty in the area where the change was done. - That`s mainly the standard here for every manufacturer in Europe. - Years ago my friend bought a new Cayenne and went to a Specialist to have some cameras added to the parking system and also for surveillance. As they attached it to the main electronics of the Cayenne (also the Data Bus to activate the cameras while using the cars own sensors) it voided the whole warranty. The Argument here was that the Data Bus Transfers also all Data which is needed to run the car safely and when you interfere in the system you can cause trouble to the whole system. - When you crash even the insurance can make that claim and wants money back from you. The department which gives the car an approval (Here called ABE Number) tests the whole vehicle before "as it is". Every change after that without approval from the Department or Test-Facilities - where you can go to when you did a change to the car - is voiding your insurance and warranty.

Love the honesty. I guess ultimately you have to decide whether the experience of owning a lambo is worth the treatment from the company. My neighbours have almost always owned BMWs and I once asked them why. They've always had amazing service at BMW. They once broke the cycle and got a Mercedes (which they loved, great car) but the treatment from Mercedes that they got (for various detailed reasons too complicated to explain on here) they decided that owning a Merc wasn't worth it for them. I guess you just gotta decide whether owning a Lambo is worth it. Hope this helps, keep up the content.

I think I said this on the earlier video - but see if you can borrow a good obd2 reader from someone near you - keep it in the Lambo - as & when it happens again, plug the reader in with the car still running (if the reader's manual says it's OK to do) - read any codes - make a video recording of the reader's screen showing any/no faults - try to rev the car a few times then cycle the key. Whatever the result, show the video to the master tech(s) at the service centre & see what their response is!

My personal experience with Lamborghini has been real good so far, but I've heard they're not keen on fixing things under warranty. As an information that I've learned only very recently: a number of Performante motors have blown up, specifically a hole in a piston seems to form. It can happen after as few as 1500 km. They do replace the entire motor under warranty but don't speak about it, so officially the problem does not exist. I do not have any more information at this point, other than that the issue is not known with the 610. In the specific case I learned about last week the check engine light had come on. Guy had parked the vehicle immediately after calling a dealership, but too late already. Let's hope your car isn't "doomed" in the same way.

Hey Josh, loved the video as always. I just wanted to say that I understand your point of view, but knowing these italian brands they are and always will be focused on the respect you have for the product. An example to what I want to say is when F1 drivers criticize Ferrari, most notably Prost in 1990 (when he said that his car was like a truck), it pisses them off. Also as I follow SR4U, I'd point out that, like a warranty on football boots, these warranties are made for the brand new vehicle, no modification is allowed. Even minor ones, I think. So yeah... Quite sad to see that they do not look at your issue seriously because of this. Wishing you the best, have a very great day !

I doubt they’ll void the warranty, if they can’t prove the exhaust caused it, they have to provide a solution. If they somehow could prove it’s the fault of modifications they can/will void it.

I think the partial reason as to why they used your exhaust as a scape goat is because of all the careless owners of Aventadors straight piping them or installing exhausts incorrectly, causing them to catch fire. They probably were thinking this was something similar but to a much lesser degree, considering the aftermarket exhaust on your car. Anyway, that’s my thought on the issue, I could be wrong and I’m sorry your experience with Lamborghini wasn’t the best.
@carproblems8547

They fully understand what system is installed on the car. The flame shooting Aventadors aren't just catback exhaust systems, that a full cat delete, which understandably could impact warranty. It's a very different modification.

Most companies void your warranty of you install aftermarket parts. Phones, laptops, washing machines. It's very common. It's common for people to even reflash the ECU before sending in for a warranty service. Even the biggest companies won't cover products that have had work done by non-certified parties.

Respect the balanced perspective of Lambo's stance on the warranty issue. I'm guessing that was just their first position. They probably would have accommodated you had you pressed further. However at the end of the day it is still within their rights to decline your request to have your warranty honored due to the AM exhaust. They do sound awesome though.

I told you that's what was going to happen. It's a tough problem because it's intermittent, in the computer and hard to resolve. I guarantee you your car is not the only one and they've known about it. They don't want to spend the money diagnosing and resolving it with a recall or even quietly on an individual basis so they're using any excuse like your exhaust to avoid doing it. Bastards are even using scare tactics threatening to void warranty. Lamborghini isn't the only company to do this......I had this issue with a 2016 Mazda 6 with a stability control glitch when I was cornering hard. Corporate and dealers want to kick the can down the road until the car is out of warranty. Find a specialist, maybe a tuner, that knows these cars and have them diagnose it. Then contact Lamborghini corporate and tell them you're going to spread the word on what they're doing and never buy a Lambo or Audi product again. You may never have to if it's a keeper LOL. But that should light a fire under their ass. Do it well before your warranty expires. By the way.....my name is Steve and I live in the SF area. Track instructor/personal driving coach. skoffeld@yahoo.com if you ever want to chat.

The 488 GTB's had the same issue with the random "limp" mode trigger. I cant tell you how many times we have cars come in with that as an issue. A lot of the time its from the burbles in the exhaust causing vibrations in the muffler and causing faults. But in all honesty I and Ferrari have no idea what it is and why it happens its like the silicone lottery for cars I suppose.

I can only say that in Germany ( where i am from) warranty is handled that if you change or open the product or change something there is no future warranty. You need to leave it stock otherwise you dont have one. For example a laptop, you want to put more storage into it and open it no warranty anymore because the firm that sold you the product wants you to buy from them. That's how it is. Greetings Nils from Germany,Stuttgart (homeland of Porsche and Mercedes-Benz)

Lots of dealerships can’t diagnose the misfire properly, without active code or better to say the active misfire, because it can be a bunch of things like a coil pack, to lean of the mixture caused by computer stock tune, and a bunch of other things. Actually when you got the exhaust if they refreshed the ecu or unplugged battery, which I assume they did it might of reset the ecu and all the sensors including maf, and car relearned itself like all the cars do when you reset the ecu, so it might of mixed it. That said- exhaust couldn’t do anything related to that misfire itself, complete bs on Lamborghini part, just if it would be any other car

I own a Corvette Z06 and in my car I was getting a "Service Active Handling System" light periodically while driving. This is not a OBD check engine code and the "Service Active Handling" code resets every time the engine is stopped and then restarted. The dealer told me they really couldn't do anything about it until they could read an active code from the car. I eventually was able to take the car to the dealer with the code active and they were able to determine the problem was with the steering column position sensor. I point this out because I don't believe the dealer's assertion that they couldn't resolve the limp mode problem without an active issue was unreasonable. It seems to me that the car would have to be symptomatic of the problem in order to diagnose and resolve it.

The whole VW Group is anti mods. They did exactly the same when they bought Porsche. Any mods = no warranty. The dealers all got re-trained to spot mods even things like upgraded radios. My advice if I was spending $250k+ on a car is to just keep it stock or if you want a louder exhaust go with the factory upgraded exhaust then your warranty remains. I have no idea if Lambo offer this, but Porsche certainly do on every car (Porsche Sports Exhaust).

Never liked Ferrari because they pull stuff like this but I thought Lamborghini was different. Guess I’ll have to get a Viper ACR or Bentley GT3, actually for the price I could do both. Good video.

Not an uncommon attitude from exotic car manufacturer's. While I agree with your assessment re the timeline of the fault, aftermarket modifications are almost always a bad idea as it relates to warranty service. The premise is that they can't control either the quality of the parts being installed and more importantly, the skill of the mechanics that are installing the parts. an exhaust change on a lambo requires a fair amount of disassembly. You may have had a great team doing the work but there are so many shoddy mod shops out there, you almost can't blame a manufacturer for being cautious. I assume you will put the stock muffler back on the car when you sell it given aftermarket parts usually subtract rather than add value to an exotic.

You'd think paying for a car of this price they would go through more quality control and test the cars from factory for faults like those discussed in this video, so customers have a better overall experience which should be expected at this premium price and brand.

Magnuson Law will protect your warranty even Lamborghini has to go with these laws to sell in the USA...I wouldn't worry to much about them voiding the warranty.. Also I Have a huracan and Actually looking at a AMG Gtr Pro.. What are your thoughts on the cars compared driving wise.

Look man, even though they are owned by Audi, they are still a low volume manufacturer and they don't implement German precision on their shop floor. Just be glad your Lambo starts and the clutch is not burnt out.

Given the fact that in europe, therefore also in Italy, the lowest standard pertrol you can buy is 95, it could also be very much a problem with the gasoline it is getting. If the problem does come back anytime in the future, maybe try to up the quality of the gas you are giving the engine. Its just a guess and you never mentioned the petrol you are getting, but i think if you pump 102 octane gas this problem will most likely never come back.

most car manufactory in the world has that policy today..everything must be stock..u are not allowed to change anything on the car execpt with original parts thats are made for the car if u want the guarantie to work for u if something happens with the car..nothing new at all..been like that for several years back..

Lamborghini have to draw a line somewhere. If I was Lamborghini (taking the company perspective) I would have a similar rule/response to drivers customising a brilliant, proven product. If owners are going and customising a vehicle that has been built and tested by Lamborghini to high standards, then there’s potential for those after market tweaks to cause issues, especially modifications implemented by Joe’s Mechanical Repairs down the road. And then owners expect Lamborghini to go and fix and incur expenses for these issues potentially caused by after market modifications? Doesn’t sound feasible to me.

I don't entirely disagree, but if that's now going to be the case, seemingly very recently according to the dealer, that should be made clear as day to customers. Also, while dealers are largely independent in a lot of ways in how they operate, if this is "the rule", dealers themselves should not be installing any sort of mods that would impact the warranty of these vehicles, but they continue to do so seemingly more than they ever have before. Should some mods impact warranty, absolutely, and maybe I should have touched on that a little more in the video, but a catback exhaust is about as common as it gets in the car modification world, and a mod that has never been frowned upon by any dealer that I know of. It's definitely a tricky situation, but in my opinion a response that was warranted, especially given the circumstances of the faults and record of when they occurred. Why only fix certain parts if the warranty is being called into question? Tricky subject for sure.

Car Problems I agree with all your points. definitely a tricky grey area. and both dealers and manufacturers are always looking at their bottom line. I think clear communication is key for sure, but in the world of dealers and manufacturers this can be blurred especially from the consumer perspective. And I also believe something as simple as an exhaust system shouldn’t warrant the need for Lamborghini to now ignore all other problems relating to totally different issues. In the end, good will should come into play in some of these situations especially when it comes to high end cars, but in your case for some reason it hasn’t which is unfortunate. At least now you know, and like anything in life we learn from it and we know for next time :)
