On this episode of Actually Me, Charlotte Hornets star LaMelo Ball goes undercover on the Internet and responds to real comments from Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, Quora, and Reddit. Is he better than his brother Lonzo Ball? Where would he have played college basketball if he didn't go straight to the NBA?
With GQ Sports, the real action is off the field. Get an all-access pass to the world's coolest, most stylish athletes with original series like My Essentials, Actually Me, My First Million, Game Points & More. Watch a GQ editor try his hand at pro sports in Above Average Joe. And get an all-access look into how athletes shop, train, travel, and showcase their love of style, menswear, and sneakers.

I have to give it to Lavar and Tina, for such a young kid he is supremely confident. Nothing wrong with that because he backs up what he says with his play. One thing I found curious, was that his writing voice is very much like his speaking voice in that he uses Afrocentric colloquialisms that are not standard English, but yet and still uses perfect punctuation.

A lot of you guys are saying he has so much confidence but don't understand that there's a line between being confident and arrogant. He keeps passing it. Saying he's better than his brother is clearly just him being confident and also messing around. Him saying he has zero weaknesses is when he becomes arrogant. I'm not saying I dislike Melo, because he's actually one of my favorite players in the league. I just think it's odd that so many of you are praising his confidence when it is really blurring the lines.

@pauliusbakanauskas4893
@pauliusbakanauskas4893 3 жыл бұрын
Just to clarify - he did not play in the Euroleague. He played in Lithuanian basketball league, which is like a 6th-10th league in Europe in terms of players quality. He also played in one of the worst teams in that league. Nonetheless it was a good thing for him, as Lithuanians are very much tactics based league with players that are not as talented, but more of hard workers. Playing in Lithuania was mostly good for his ego, because in terms of other things the coach allowed him to do more or less everything and once he tried to put him into tactics, they got in a conflict with Lavar and they left. I feel like if they had a full season here, with a team that played in the Eurocup (second best international tournament after Euroleague), he would’ve benefited even more. But on the other hand, looks like this path also turned out quite good for him.
@pauliusbakanauskas4893
@pauliusbakanauskas4893 3 жыл бұрын
And with “good for his ego”, I mean that, either nobody cares about him, or some of the players actively disliked him for being arrogant without having anything proved yet. I’m pretty sure it was even a bit traumatizing for him, because he was not a favorite player in the team, came there in mid-winter, in one of the ugliest cities in the country and played for a coach, who didn’t speak English. So… I feel like that had to provide him with enough motivation to get himself to the level of NBA and to not be someone who has to look for a career in Europe. 😅 But yeah, at the time he was nowhere near the level of Euroleague. Luka Doncic and Ricky Rubio are probably the only two players that I can remember that had significant roles in Euroleague before they turned 18, with Luka winning it all when he was 18-19. It’s still crazy how stupid even some of the scouts were to let him fall to 3rd pick when he was Euroleague’s MVP and Final’s MVP, Spanish League’s MVP and became a European champion with Sloviena, while being second best player on the team, all while being at the age of 18-19.
