My wife and I have a friend, Female and Black, actually quite dark skinned. But she has a French passport. She comes from Sao Tome, former Portuguese colony. She travels quite a bit to Portugal and France and said that at security checks in airports, they often assume she's African with African documentation and treat her accordingly. As soon as she shows her French passport, it's a different story. She then becomes a Madame and they treat her nicely. Unfair but sadly true.

Very interesting story. I also born in Sao Tome and grew up in Portugal. I hold Portuguese passport and travelled across Europe and never had problems. I guess because I do speak English,French, Spanish and a bit Italian. I have perceived the black British are less supportive to other black people compared to black Portuguese or black French. We all are black and some white people don’t care y if you born in Britain. If you only understand and speak English obviously you can’t understand if someone makes fun of you.There are plenty of stories of British people who had terrible experiences in France because they don’t speak French.

As a 32yo Eastern European, living and working in the UK for the last 5 years, I don't see it. I don't see that so called ''white privilege'' westerners speak about. Not that I need it, anyway. I'm busting my ass 10 times more than the majority of my colleagues, yet I'm still at the bottom. I've been working in the same place since I got here, and I've seen nothing but disrespect and abuse of my strong work ethic. Sprinkle with some false hopes and a LOT of nepotism and you've got the picture. Seriously considering returning back to Eastern Europe next month. The only positive thing I see here is the salary. If I'm going to be treated like crap while killing myself for the common good and watching incompetent, lazy people get promoted because they are friends with the managers or slept with them, I might as well be at home, at least.

Set up your own business…. You are choosing your situation … If you’re busting your ass as you say, and you’re adding more value than the people around you, but you’re still being treated poorly and potentially being paid less then assuming you’re telling the truth you are actually getting a signal from the universe. The universe is telling you to take your fantastic work ethic and attitude, and provide services directly to the customers and cut out the middleman - your employer….. if you choose not to do this it means you don’t really believe in yourself in the way that you state. If you truly are hard-working and produce better results and your colleagues then you should easily be able to start a business offering great value to customers solving their problems. Simple tip find a problem but it’s common solve it and people will pay you to do this all day long. You could start really simply just by mowing peoples lawns there is huge demand for gardening services. It’s a fantastic job you learn a lot you’re out in nature and things quieten down in the winter when you can have a well earned holiday during the summer spring and autumn are out in the fresh air getting fit and being paid for it. Also if you learn vegetable gardening you can set up vegetable gardens for people and no doubt they will be delighted to let you take some Of the surplus produce home, which will mean that you’ll get free organic food for you and your family. That’s just one idea. There are many many more.

I am from the UK and have seen the same thing. I worked in 4 Local authorities throughout my working life. In one I was literally told not to help members of the public who came to the office because they did not want to encourage them to keep coming back when they have a problem. One manager who was African would ask whether the person who was asking to see her was white or black and the answer would determine if she saw them or not. If she did not want to see them staff would lie and say she was not in the office. One housing officer would not see anyone or answer the phone after 4pm because she did not want to be delayed from leaving early at 4.30pm (Still paid up to 5pm though). One manager who was Asian frequently spent most of the day away from his desk, and then told me off for spending 25mins away from my desk on one particular day. A Jamaican guy who did repairs, would often not bother to do certain repairs at all because he did not like the tenants. There is just really poor management in Local authorities and many staff just treat it more like a social club than a working environment where they have a responsibility to their tenants/constituents. I was brought in to one local authority to clean up the payments department as they were over 3 years behind on paying their outstanding invoices, productivity from many of the staff was found to be poor and only certain ones were doing the majority of the work that was actually getting done. One Jamaican lady who was a really hard worker and a single mum, I had her promoted because I could see she was a real asset and easy to get on with. Unfortunately one older English lady was let go because she resented me setting her a certain amount of work to do in the day and had an outburst in the office in front of everyone calling me all sorts of names. Apparently she was under stress because she was looking after a sick husband after work. When I found out her situation I told them it was fine and there was no need to make a big fuss about it, but senior management thought her outburst was not acceptable and forced her into early retirement.

But that’s on us too. How many of us black people mock our own African and Caribbean people for not quite being westernised. This way others won’t do it as much. It’s not just in everyday casual jobs and black people with accents, black people across the board are not respected in different sectors. Being Canadian and having an accent, a lot of things are made much easier for me here in the UK, especially with jobs or as you mentioned when you speak and people perceive your ideas as better because of how you sound (even though my ideas are not always superior) but people tend to listen to me more, jobs and other opportunities are more readily available to me compared to a British person I have observed firsthand. Myself, my wife and two kids,8 & 10 packed up and moved to Thailand from the Uk! The Uk is in an utterly depressing state of affairs! We earned good money but never enough to enjoy life, dismal weather, and endless sacrifices being made just to pay the bills! Don’t get me wrong, we did ok and if life was all about making money there would be worse places to live but…. Who the hell cares when u can’t enjoy a single moment of it! It’s awful, in the most part! A failing NHS, a waste of space government, dangerous streets and practically no outdoors life at all unless u enjoy bitterly cold and wet weather! I sincerely hope the UK pulls itself together but at the end of the day, let’s face it. It’s a cold wet, small, windswept island for 11 months out of 12! I really don’t think people realise how far the UK has fallen compared to international competition over the last 20 years! You can live a far superior life here in Thailand for the same amount you would spend in the Uk to make ends meet. Alternatively you can prioritise other things such as pursuing a business venture or retiring early for an incredibly tiny budget and still benefit from the sun, sand, sea and friendly faces by leaving! For us it was a non brainer.

I'm from Eswatini, next door to South Africa and I've lived in the UK for the past 29 years. I treasure my British citizenship more than any possession I have because it allows me to live and work in one of the most amazing countries of the world despite what many people think of the UK these days. In the UK you can be anything you want if you are willing to work hard and make the right choices in your life. I remember back in 1997 when I queued the whole night outside the French Embassy in London just to get a Schengen Visa to visit France. I always felt like a second class citizen when I did not have British citizenship. Even today I still have nightmares of what I used to go through at London Heathrow immigration when I entered the UK on my African passport. They require so many documents and if anything is not not in order they just deport you. Once, as a British citizen, I was returning to the UK from France at Kings Cross with some Japanese friends. All the Japanese people I was with were simply waved through by immigration. I showed my Bfitish passport and they were like "wait, let's check this passport of yours to ensure you are not up to no good" It was kind of funny because they had nothing on me, but this is what people from third world countries have to go through when they try to come to the UK. So I'm glad that you don't take your British citizenship for granted anymore because it gives us so much freedom. That's why dozens of people are dying in the oceans trying to reach the UK.

While what you've said is true, im not sure its worth celebrating this previledge. Hey, thanks for sharing and I understand how it can be triggering. As I mentioned towards the very end of the video I can also relate to often being outside the loop when it comes to common ‘privileges’ by virtue of being a young, black, female amongst other things. However, as I mentioned at the start of the video, this video was for other people from the UK/the West who complain about the country rather seeing the glass as half full and recognising all the benefits they have. I stand by that as my stance has always been that we should do the best we can with what we have to improve our lives. I obviously don’t agree with treating people differently based on their accents, passports etc because it’s wrong and I will and have stuck up for people when I see it happening and I hope others do to but it was an example that illustrates my point rather than a celebration of it. I hope that makes sense and sorry that you have received poor treatment by virtue of having a weaker passport which obviously isn’t your fault.

Your video is problematic, and if you can’t understand that, thats on you. It suggests exploiting privilege while ignoring the rights of local populations. Nowhere in your video do you advocate for fair treatment. Promoting the use of nationality-based privileges to gain benefits abroad overlooks ethical considerations and reinforces systemic inequalities. It’s called discrimination/exploitation. Everything that was wrong with colonialism. A more respectful approach is to encourage positive cultural engagement and equality, rather than exploiting race/nationality based privileges at the expense of others. I think it's important to consider not only the ability to speak a language, but also the clarity and articulation of speech. I've encountered many English speakers with poor diction, which could limit their success. Therefore, it's not entirely accurate to say that being from the UK guarantees better treatment.

Although ive only ever lived in the UK I completely understand your point about the accent. I used to live in Birmingham and people treated me completely differently because I was from London, some people seemed to be in awe of me 😂 they valued my opinions a lot more because of my accent.

definitely move out of London. Nicer places outside of London. Yes night life is not the same but quality of life in general is better outside London, and UK is small enough that you can drive back to London anytime.
@tinachristine45737 ай бұрын
@anfieldreds_1892 💯. I was that person who was so obsessed with London until I lived outside the capital for a spell and now, you can't pay me to squeeze myself into that jungle. London is actually scary and I'm saying this as a well travelled person that even lives in the ghettos of Africa. I fear how you can be walking in a nice posh street in London and then you turn the corner and boom you are walking through a run down deserted council estate with dodgy looking people. I get so nervous when this happens to me.
@anfieldreds_18927 ай бұрын
@@tinachristine4573 thanks for sharing. I personally don’t feel unsafe anywhere in London however, outside or London is generally cleaner, more greenery, friendlier folks, cheaper, cheaper and bigger houses, less congested, and yes safer.
@tinachristine45737 ай бұрын
@anfieldreds_1892 I don't feel unsafe per se, maybe it's jarring and a bit ghetto and run down in lots of parts and it's that air that makes one feel like 'anything goes'. Londoners scurry around as well 😅, a behaviour that is not very reassuring. And then you turn another corner and walk straight into a car worth 250k easy. Crazy place. I'm glad to be out of it but for years I mistakenly thought that I could be part of the madness.

It's not about race but what Britain has done for the world and how educated we are in sorting and getting things done. If you're Caucasian and from a 3rd world you would get the same treatment as natives, It may look odd but they better be safe than sorry. England has many treaties and agreements and trades with the world. Speaking English itself is like having a passport to communicate with the rest of the world so having the actual passport is respected and honoured. Gotta love England.

Hi I'm retired British living in the subs of south England. The title is a bit click bait🙃. However you are not necessarily encouraging people to leave this beautiful isle, but encouraging them to explor and unlock the historical privileges associated with the UK. With roots from the Carribbean 🇯🇲, and having travelled around the world I agree with you. Obviously if you are still setting out in life and had a good education, why not make full use of this Golden ticket. With the decennary unrest due to economic instability this can seem like a wise move just now. The dooms dayers and negative voices are claiming the UK 🇬🇧 is falling , but I'm confident it is a myth. This is generally just the state of society especially since the "plandemic" there are those that want to see unrest and chaos but we are not there yet. I'm contentedly living my retired life. It is quiet around here. My needs are simple and I can finally enjoy my dream pursuit of music by the grace of God 🙏🏽
