Terrific to watch Your progress. Just a quick remark from an old fiber guy - I understand it is tempting to remove the peal ply after every step to see the result. But this is also a source for issues, especially, when you have additional work nearby like sanding, painting or cleaning. It is good practice, to keep the peal ply on the laminate until you are ready to mix epoxy and apply the next layer, that way protecting the cured laminate from any contamination like spills or dust.

And there it is! You two make this job look so easy, even though it is very exhausting and uncomfortable. The finish looks very professional! The way in which you filmed this process is perfectly fine! After all, you are documenting YOUR boat build; not giving free lessons! Laminating the rest is going to be equally interesting! You are one big step closer to the day I am most looking forward to; the turning of the hull!! Just can not wait to get a peek at the interior of this beauty!

Wonderful to see another milestone passed! And wonderful to see Johan give his wife a kiss! I've been home sick for three weeks binge-watching all the old episodes, and I can still count on the fingers of one hand how many times it's happened. If I had a wife who shared my dream as hard as Malin does and also works so hard for the goal, my videos would be mostly kisses! ❤❤😊

Johan, Marlin & Vera: This is truly a Milestone with respect, laminating cloth fiber over your beautiful cedar hull, and in such a relative short period of time may I add. I realize, that all tree must be exhausted at this point, yet the accomplishment of building your own stripped hull is overwhelming to us all. Thank all three for an amazing job so far. It's a epic undertaking that you seem to take in stride. God Bless from the US!

Congratulations on entering your crab-walking lamination-party phase, J & M! It was exciting to watch the time lapse, and interesting to see and learn about vacuum-lamination. And, although I've been watching (and loving) your channel for a while now, I'd appreciate a clarification of how the keel recess works (how will the keel attach???) and why laminating the keel recess in this way is part of the boat build ... why the yellow & black tape (which the epoxy wont stick to), what happens after the tape is removed, etc. etc.. Earlier, watching allllllllll those cedar strips be carefully assembled and attached to create your beautiful hull made sense, but the role of "the keel pocket" is a bit less obvious, so I'm having a hard time visualizing it and really want to understand (your great explanations are part of what makes watching glue dry so interesting! And especially that both of you are such wonderful people. :) Thx, Lee

Did you know, that you can clean your tooly by simply washing them in haouse hold vinegar. The acidity in the vinegar knocks down the molecules of epoxy and the brushes, rolers, fingers ;-) can be cleaned safely and without any expensive and dangerous solvents Works great, when I have to do epoxy works

Back when I was doing aircraft composites I think it was recommended to not remove peel ply until just before (same day) doing the follow on laminate as that improved the quality of the bond. My recollection is the surface of the previous layup would absorb some amount of moisture from the air and that interferes with the bond strength of the subsequent layer. Also, where sanding is required to get a new layer to adhere the paper grit should be 36 or 40.

Maybe put a wetting table in the cold big loft and roll your wetted glass-mat onto some tube and unroll it onto the hull. When you have helpers. Duracell Project just pours epoxy on to the cloth and uses scrapers to wet it out when doing big areas.

The other thing I've learned from seeing people work with epoxy and fiberglass along with doing it myself is that you should put on several pairs of gloves so that once the outer pair is messed up or develops a tear you can easily pull off the first pair and have another pair or two below that layer

I would love to try resin injection, you would place all the cloth dry in place, vacuum bag the area, then draw the resin in from the center out using vacuum pressure.

when you are inspecting the recently cured epoxy lams you can knock on the laminate surface to hear how hard the built up laminates are. The work looks great btw. I usually leave the room as cold as possible until the layup is all done then crank the heat :--)
@scholtenrm Жыл бұрын
Hey hello, I'm looking forward to your project. And I'm amazed at the work you do, really great! Small tip: make sure that the first perforated (blue foil) layer and the last layer (vacuum bag) are not too tight in the radius of the pocket. You can easily do this by running a fold (extra material) across the length and width of the radius / pocket, so that the material has room to work. This prevents potential air (or a build-up of a lot of resin) from remaining in the radius due to tension in the material. It can also cause the bag to tear in the corners where the tension is greatest. Hopefully it helps you 😁 Have fun with your project. Greetings from an aircraft manufacturer from the Netherlands 👋
