Lamp Array Repair How To Fix Inconsistent Lighting & Dimming

Gottlieb EM pinball machines lamp sockets are notorious for inconsistent lighting. It's a must to solder all of the lamp sockets or replace them with new ones throughout the entire machine during the restoration period. This video is perfect and shows you how to do it right. Well now my day is complete - I learned something. Australia's season change Meteorologically (1st day of 4 months) while us in North America use Astronomically based (equinoxes and solstices)....oh ya, also learned a little more about soldering sockets to common, specifically flux isn't needed if it's in the solder already and sewing machine oil is NOT 3 in One oil. Its equivalent is hair clipper oil. Thanks for a video showing how-to do it and not a 'what was done' vid.

Thanks for the tutorial guys. I have quite a bit of difficulty with soldering (especially getting stranded wire to 'stick' to the solid metal legs on the lamp holder), I don't know if it's due to my lack of skill or my $5 soldering iron😊.

Preparation is a good thing clean all oxidisation off stuff as best as possible sometimes you need flux like Bakers but remember if you use flux clean off thoroughly

You need a lot of heat for lamp sockets, especially the ones attached to frames like these. A small electronic pencil iron is fine for circuit boards, but these socket assemblies draw out all the heat and make it difficult for the solder to flow. I prefer to use a soldering gun for this.

Yes we have one WEN but Graham perfers the heat adjustable gun. I used the WEN on Tropic Isle playfield swap.
