Just because Sheryl longed for her mother's attention that doesn't imply she had any inappropriate feelings for her own mom! What a crazy hypothesis. Truly a very sad story too.

Such a sad world to accuse her daughter of inappropriately having a crush on her mom. The daughter missed and loved her mom - totally normal.

I agree wholeheartedly. I mean, I grew up with a mother and grandmother who rejected any physical affection and that is always difficult. But I didn’t adore either of them, they weren’t my focus. Interestingly I now have a daughter who looks up to me in an adoring manner and I live a “glamorous” life. I see my daughter look at me in the same way that Lana’s daughter did and from time to time I also have to say “careful with my hair, careful with the lipstick, careful with the jewelry” and I can sense the “keep away please” tension that it creates for my daughter. But I don’t live like that every single moment, just when I perform or have an event. Lana however was done up ALWAYS. She did not focus on balance in any way and that is an important part of connecting with children. I can see how things could go downhill with a mother so focused on herself and an adoring daughter in a world full of uncles. Cheryl is a good girl and she was just trying to defend her mother. Hollywood is all about an excessive focus on image and that is one biggest detriments to a loving family life. That, and also to notice (we know thanks to Karine’s incredible channel) that most Hollywood stars of the golden era came from difficult childhoods where there were no role models to emulate. Anyway, thanks for saying it’s normal as per to the daughter’s love for her mother, because I also see it as normal and beautiful, but it has to be nurtured and dealt with great care, especially in the image-conscious worlds of fashion and performance. ❤

She wasn’t in love with her mother like that, more like overprotective of her. Her daughter knew something wasn’t right about her mother, multiple men and multiple marriages. And I sense a great deal more happened to her by the hands of those men. Being a victim of that type of abuse, there’s only so much one actually tells because a lot of it is painful. 😊

She strikes me as the type of woman who doesn't know how to be alone with herself and needs to fill the void with men. The good, the bad and the unfaithful as long as she has a man. She definitely sounds like the type of woman would put a man above her child.

The fact that they claimed that Cheryl was in love with her mother Lana is so absurd to me! Like every newborn would know the warmth and scent of their mother from being held it’s only natural she would do what she did. It’s not weird it’s just natural to want to surround yourself with things that make you feel safe and sound when surrounded by these strange men. Hell I even know how my grandmas and moms hands and sometimes even their presence even blind folded. But I also know some friends who just could not relate to it (sometimes cuz of the upbringing and sometimes cuz of the emotional distance). I also know some that relate to this kind of bond.

This woman should not be celebrated. My God, what is wrong with you?

I don’t believe she was “in love” with her mother at all. She wanted more affection, which is normal for a child. She admired her mother, which is partially why she went into modeling. Also, the abuse from men early on could have DEFINITELY influenced her distrust. I agree with your read. Very tragic but seems she found love and stability. Thank you.

Her daughter loved her. I don't think she was was in love with her. When children aren't allowed closeness with a parent, some of them are in awe of, or kind of in awe of, the parent and try to feel close in other ways. It's not surprising her daughter might have sniffed her clothing on which there probably would've been the aroma of any perfume she wore.

There is nothing unusual about a child smelling her mother's clothes. To this day I can remember my father's scent. She probably missed her mother terribly and grieved in her absence. Recently while going through my deceased mother's things I came across a stash of clothing in a plastic bag. I smelted them and they smelled just like her. It was a bitter sweet moment as I thought of her and how sweet and precious she was and how much I miss her 😢

I would think it takes a certain type of person to seek the limelight and crave attention and adoration on a worldwide scale, I would think a lot of people like that would have some extreme personality disorder. Narcissistic or borderline etc. so it goes hand in hand with being incapable of being a balanced parent who gives their children what they need. Too wrapped up in themselves. Just my opinion though 😂

All every child wants is their mother's love. When that love is withheld, that child will do anything to get the love and attention. So any little bit of affection the mother shows, the child drinks it in and when the mother withdraws, the child blames themselves. Then mom brings home husbands to love and the child is placed at the end of the line for the mother's love. The issue being the mom never learned how to love so how could she share it with her child or anyone else.

Lana was sexy and glamorous. My favorite was "The Postman Always Rings Twice." She and John Garfield sizzled both on-screen (and off-screen, too). I think her daughter probably took the rap for the mobster boyfriend's death. Cheryl wasn't "in love" with her mother. She was very protective. Apparently, this mobster had roughed up her mom before and was threatening to do more harm since Lana was ending the relationship. I feel for the daughter since Lana had so many lovers and husbands. There was no stability. That said, Lana was also a very gifted actress who often got labeled a sex symbol. She was much more than that. Thanks, Karine, for your profile of the glorious Lana Turner! 💗💛💗💛

I don't think Cheryl was in love with her mother in a carnal way, but she was in love with the woman she wanted to put her first in her life, her mother, the one person who should have put her first. As for the murder Cheryl probably was just trying to protect her mom. Lana should have put her first, but she too carried her own baggage and it affected her mentally too. The golden age was not so golden, but was a murky place where many stars were held captive by their past offenses and trials.

🩷💛 I wouldn't be surprised if her daughter's actions were triggered by past trauma. When you said "uncles" it made me think of Christina Crawford. It must be hard having a "nontraditional" mother, at that time, having to share her with so many others. I was trying to think of who would be interesting for future videos... I have a terrible memory, though 😬 I can't remember everyone you've done!😂 This did make me think of how I used to love Virginia Mayo, when I was a kid. I find Gloria Graham intriguing, and know nothing about her. You have done most of my favorite Artists of color, I love how diverse your "subjects" are. I tried to look through your videos, have you done Michelle Yeoh? She's so elegant. If you ever think of doing a "Where Are They Now" episode, I was thinking for the Rappers/R & B/Freestyle Artists I loved in the late 80's/early 90's, like: MC Lyte, Jody Whatley, Lisette Melendez, Exposé, Cover Girls, Michelé😳 Maybe Girl Groups would be interesting?

Lana Turner was the greatest symbol of blonde beauty and MGM's top money-making star during the 1940's and 1950's. Hers was a rags to riches story. As myth goes, she was discovered by an agent sipping a soda at Currie's Ice Cream Parlour which led to her role in Mervyn Leroy's film They Won't Forget [1937]. This film launched her as the "Sweater Girl" and catapulted her as the reigning queen of MGM for 17 incredibly productive years. Her big screen break came with Ziegfeld Girl [1941], and she never looked back. Some of her outstanding films include: The Postman Always Rings Twice, The Three Musketeers [Her opening scene dressed in green sitting in coach will knock you out -so incredibly beautiful was she], The bad and the beautiful and Peyton Place for which she was nominated for an Oscar. While her acting may have been flayed at times, the success of her films and the jingle of the cash register at the box-office gave MGM the viability it needed.

Hey Karine! Now that Titanic is trending again, can you do a video on Kate Winslet? She has an interesting, unbothered charm to her. Maybe a video on how we lack elegance and that mystique in Hollywood these days..

The people that say Cheryl was in love with her mom are just homophobic, saying this because she was gay.

Cheryl grew up to be gay because she was born that way. Not because she had romantic feelings for her mom. Not because she was abused by men. Not because she grew up with beautiful women. She was simply born that way.

Lana's father was murdered when she was nine years old (case unsolved). In a 1951 article for The Woman's Home Companion, Lana wrote: "The shock I suffered then may be a valid excuse for me now. It may explain things I do not myself understand. I know my father's sweetness and gaiety, his warmth and his tragedy have never been far from me - that, and a sense of loss and growing up too fast. Until now, my life had been wayward and impulsive, always searching for something that isn't there and then disillusionment." Cheryl noted in her autobiography, "Her [Lana's] feelings about men had to have been shaped by the odd example of her father, a fun-loving bounder whose dreams and schemes never did pan out, and the only tap dancer in her non-musical life. On the one hand, he was utterly magnetic. If she sensed Gran's growing coldness to him, it was nothing like the warmth that she felt every time he swept her up and spun her around the music of the wind-up Victrola. But on the other hand, he rejected her and her mother, leaving them in great hardship." Cheryl stated that she was aware of her sexual orientation at the age of 6. It had nothing to do with the SA she suffered. Moreover, the coroner's inquest confirmed that the person who stabbed Johnny Stompanto did not know to handle knives because the blade was inserted upside down, in other words, sharp side up. This fits as 14-year-old Cheryl was rarely permitted in the kitchen. At 14, Cheryl was taller than Lana and Stompanto was dying of a liver ailment and would have only lived a few more years if that. Cheryl didn't start modeling until she was nearly 20 years old. Other than Lex Barker, Cheryl never accused any of her mother's other husbands or boyfriends of abusing her. She viewed her mother's fifth husband, Fred May, as her second father. Cheryl's father, Stephen Crane, was married five times, and when she visited her father as a child, he often had strange people around her, smoking, drinking, playing poker, etc, but I don't see people using that against him.
