Something that I learned to do to make docker stuff easier like when it comes to port conflicts is to always use the macvlan network so that every docker container appears on the network as separate machines. All this time I have been backing up all of my steam games to my server over an samba share that I had fstab mounted. I just got this lancache going and I'll never have to backup another steam game ever again to get them reinstalled faster. First time downloading from steam for me is around 10MB/sec and with this lancache they download at 117MB/sec, so 10x faster. I gave it 6TB to play with. This is amazing! I deleted my lançache because it was hit and miss. Went back to manual backups.

with pihole, just setup the lancache ip as an Upstream DNS Server and disable the one you use normaly for when you are going to need the lancache utility. that way you dont have to change your client config

Would adding the LanCache IP to the list of DNS’s in AdGuard solve the having to flip DNS’s? I’ve been wanting something like this for awhile. Thank you. Going to try it soon.

Hi. 😁 Isn't there a option to set an upstream DNS on this cache DNS? That would be the best solution. Changing DNS to download games is too annoying imo.

iirc lancache has an option for upstream dns that I assume you could set to pihole/adguard

Yeah, AdGuard uses a feature where you can keep your router DNS settings and if it detects you downloading Steam or accessing their server's it can point towards the lancache.

Can I cache more than games? Like Workshop content or others? I live in a rural area, and my only two ISPs are either a radio provider (which is absolute garbage), or Starlink. Since I am still waiting to get Starlink, I'd love to be able to reduce the load on my internet by caching whatever I can and then serving that whenever it's requested.

@@DBTechYT I cant even get to a point where i need to point it to a DNS. I've been trying to follow the guides on the LanCache website and a couple different youtube tutorials, this one included, all to no avail and my lancache not working. To be fair, I dont know a damn thing about docker and how it works, so that might help if I actually knew what I was doing with docker maybe? But still. I just try to install it and run it and it crashes, then whenever I try to edit the files to fix whatever issue I may have, I get extremely confused and lost and dont know what im doing. Im a noob if you cant tell. All I know about PC's is "PUT TOGETHER LIKE LEGO. INSTALL WINDOW. INSTALL STEAM. INSTALL GAME. GAME."

Hey, I have a question about updates. If you get an update, lets say the game has 50gb update and I dont want to download it from the internet, but from the lancache. Is there a way to make everything in lancache auto update and have it up to date in lancache?

I wish there was a version where you could pre-download all your Steam game updates while you are at work to your NAS, then when you get home to play they update over LAN. Please someone create this lol

Awesome guide, The only issue I have run into is when I change the port from 80 to 81 I can no longer access the web gui, thoughts?

Make sure that you only change the first part so that it looks like 81:80

Well, since your PC has to have this setup as DNS, I doubt it. I think you'd have to switch to this when downloading a game and then switch back when you're done downloading
