He changed the sport, the way teams trained and the tactics used, the recon done pre-race all through the year. Nobody had ever approached the sport like Armstrong. They created a blue-print that every team and athlete now follow. Armstrong was one of the first athletes to use a wind tunnel to get the most aerodynamic position and equipment possible. Now everyone uses a wind tunnel! He elevated the sport to new levels.

Blood doping refers specifically to transfusing blood (in these days, your own stored blood, to avoid detection) to boost hematocrit. Other forms of doping are simply called "doping".

I don't give a shit what anyone thinks, he still won and worked hard to do it. He has been a winner since age 15. If he cheated, he didn't start it. Ask Indurain about that. LeMond even says it himself. Everything changed at that point.

Doping is wrong, but I can honestly say that even though he doped like everyone else, he still kicked their butts. He trained for those wins. I think all of you guy's who are talking shit about Lance should THINK before writing anything. First of all he was never caught with hard evidence, his opponents did. Second of all, in most years (except 2003) he won by almost TEN minutes... in front of those who actually tested positive. Lance never tested positive. Even if he dopped, the only thing people can say is that he was the best dopper. Assuming he did it, they were all in the same circumstances. And he won... by miles away.

Reading these comments, I'm really starting to get angry. Lance Armstrong still put in the work and most athletes are doing some form of doping. All sports have this problem, but these are just tools they use. Drugs don't make champions. Cut the man some slack, and do not call him a psychopath.

I think it's incredibly naive of those who say that because he never failed a test he wasn't doping. Firstly, there are several reason to believe he DID fail tests (for instance the 1999 test). Secondly, Marion Jones was tested 160 times over her career and never failed. She went to jail after she fully admitted she had doped her entire career.

If USADA says Lance was using illegal drugs, then I have to believe them. But if you think that Lance is just yourself plus drugs then you have a very big idea about yourselves, without proving it to anyone. So instead of been hateful respect the man for the things he achieved and the things he has offered to cancer victims. He has made some choices and he will live with the consequences but trust me, Lance knows about choices in his life. May you make better choices.

Lots of the finishers also doped, so it's still in a way a level playing field. What lance did was just to dope better than them. Doesn't change the fact that he did cheat, but a lot of people seem to think that just because he did, all his accomplishments mean nothing. Livestrong's still done great things for cancer, and he still out-classed all the other (doping) riders.

***** I respect your opinion and there is probably some truth to it. I disagree that all do/did cheated. I would never, though, tell my kids, go ahead cheat, everyone does it, - in sports, school, in life, your spouses. I cannot tell my boy, just go on lying, it is OK. The part of the video that the fiercely defends being clean turns my stomach upside down; and then explain how this is a very family oriented sports!!! Well society has shown him the disapproval (regardless of the immense amount of hypocrisy in all).

The doping Armstrong did would not have had the impact and 7 tdf wins if he wasn’t the hardest working and most dedicated cyclist of all. It was just one of many elements, all equally important that gave him the edge over all other riders who were doping to the same degree or even more.
