Y'all we need to voice our complains about the terrible sound design when the weapon hit, they need to fix it so that our weapon feel like they actually have weight in the final product

@@RedHornSSS Agreed. Something akin to World's sound design or just World's without any changes would be great. Visual effects too, but I am personally partial to Worlds and XX's crit visual effects.

I cant be the only one that dislikes this version of the lance right? This has been pretty much the only weapon ive used through 3u, world, rise, and frontier but this one just feels... wrong. removing counter thrust, binding backhop to focus mode, varied timings on pokes, leaping thrust chains not being fluid, the sound design. It just has needless inconveniences and changes that make it feel unsatisfying and clunky (or in the case of the counter thrust removal, just straight up worse)

Am I crazy in thinking that the attacks don't feel like they have impact? I see the thrusts and the numbers pop up but it doesn't feel impactful

No hit-stun. Also think the sound is kinda weak when it comes to the hunters attacks. But the main thing is the hit-stun, Lance looks like its poking water, no resistance.

It's the sound, in World it sounded powerful, like if every stab was piercing the monster, now it feels like it's slapping cardboard, but dam the movements looks way better

not just the sound tho. the hitstop was also way better in World. even using TCS doesn't feel as impactful now. it reminds me of Rise TCS honestly. also, weapons have more "momentum" and "weight" in World. kinda heavy and slow in beginning of the movement, and faster and weightier during the last moment of attack. however i'll argue, for light and fast move weapons like LS, DB and SnS it actually feels better because the movement feels more fluid and flowing.

Probably the smoothest gameplay I've seen with Lance so far on the beta. Which is saying a lot cause the Lance feels so clunky/clumsy this time around. Definitely feels the worse out of World and Rise. Obviously the biggest gripe with any Lance main is going to be the removal of the Counter-Thrust input (R2+O), which IS the bread and butter of Lance. I'd compare it to removing the Charge feature of the Greatsword. That's the mechanic the weapon is literally known for. In it's replacement we're forced to Perfect Guard/Insta-Block what we'd normally be able to Counter-Thrust. And the reward for it?a mediocre upper cut Counter-Thrust. No rewarding punishment like cross slash etc etc. It feels like they took away all the defensive capabilities (also have to mention no stamina recovery during moving while guarding) and gave it a more offensive moveset without the punisher rewards. They'll definitely have to tweak something. 1000+ hours in World/Iceborne as Lance main and 400-500+ house in Rise/Sunbreak. Wilds Lance wasn't very satisfying to use. Maybe I'm missing something cause I've seen a few folks say it feels better than ever but I'm definitely not feeling it.

The punchiness of it comes from the counter thrust at the end of your 3 poke combo. You have the triple thrust which is your highest punish UNLESS you perfectly time the counter thrust which does around 80 - 90 damage with both thrusts but is much more difficult to land and you get slightly less damage if you misread. The payback thrust from power guard also scales it's damage based off of how much damage it absorbed while you had it up which might play a key role in lances damage. So lance has become a much more high risk high reward weapon to help it compete with the other weapons without getting rid of its traditional feel. Normal guarding is the safest but gives the smallest reward Guard dash is safe for positioning but is less mobile than just hopping or charging Power guard takes more chip(I'm assuming from world I haven't tested it.) And requires slightly more set up but gives about twice the damage of a normal payback thrust. Then the counter thrust at the end of the combo has to be used on reaction with a very small window of opportunity but has 4 or 5 times the damage you would've gotten from just blocking the attack. However, after playing for a while myself some parts of it are definitely not up to par. Firstly, I've had numerous input drops which have made the weapon feel unresponsive and clunky, and the weapon itself doesn't que your inputs correctly so often times I'd press triangle after guarding something and my hunter will just do nothing because i pressed it too early and then the combo ended before I realized he wasn't gonna do anything so I just do a normal poke which is too slow and I get thwacked. Kinda just cause it's a part of the beta I'm assuming. There's still some tweaks they're gonna make to the inputs to make it feel more responsive but based just off the design and direction of the weapon I think it feels amazing! I was also a lance main in world if you couldn't tell.

They really fumbled by taking out the cross slash from perfect guard. What’s the point you can do perfect guard in anytime but can’t follow up a big meaty attack? Just look how big attack gunlance can do after perfect guard.

@chianliu8352 I think the idea is that lance will be doing it a lot more than the other weapons since you can't dodge at all. It's something you do every 5ish seconds. I much prefer this over locking myself in a long animation and having the perfect guard have harder timings.

I actually miss the counter-poke playstyle from world. They did a great job there when it comes to combine offense and defense as a flow. I tried to play with Lance in Wilds and blocking mostly threw me off and stopped the flow. The counter thrust takes too long and often misses, leaving you open for follow up attacks of a monster while not even doing good damage. Lance was already not a common pick, but I'm afraid it'll be even less in Wilds

@@sdeath827 He thought blocking the lightning attack required the "Guard Up" skill. Normal blocks have attacks they cant block and require the Guard Up armor skill or decoration, but the Power Guard move of Lance already has Guard Up built in.

The fact that after a perfect guard, a guard dash attack does more damage than payback is silly. Hopefully they change payback to either increased damage or mounting properties since he is jumping or something idk.

Something feels off on lance. It lacks the meaty thrusts. Insta Guard and hop lancing on rise was just better IMHO.

You're right, with 1100 hours of lance in World and about 400 in Rise I could tell as well. To me it felt a bit more sluggish as the triple pokes are a tad slower (I compared footage) and you can't cancel the endlag on them with counter stance (which is removed and replaced with power guard on R2 + circle now). While the regular guard has a perfect guard point now, it can't be used to cancel the end of the triple poke animation and I was constantly getting hit because of it. Hope they speed it up a bit before Wilds comes out and that counter stance comes back seperate from power guard.

Really starting to hate what they’ve done to my beloved lance. For a start lance should have the best, most satisfying perfect guard but this one looks like a big step back from insta block. The removal of the counter cancel is such a weird choice can’t see why they needed to do that. The shield charge should have been kept as the default charge as it’s way more fun and useful. The triple poke finisher is not as cool as they thought it was. And on top of all of that, it is doing terrible damage of course 😒. Also while I’m moaning, does anyone else think this clemency period thing looks stupid? You can barely see wtf you’re doing

yeah the new perfect guard is so shit. Perfect counter stance was so much better. The triple poke is so fucking dumb. Can be only accessed after 3 thrust, by then there's probably an monster attack coming and it'd be the worst time to do a high commitment attack that don't do that much dmg anyway. Clemency is cool tho I'm fine with not able to see shit once every while.

Imo some changes are good: i like the instant guard, it can be used into combos like the old counter thrust, so in the end it's just a substitution; also i really like the triple pokes finisher and the charged counter, even if this one needs a perfect timing, so it's a bit risky..but at least we have some combo variety. But other than that i think lance had a downgrade from World/Rise: it's slower and it feels so clunky, we almost don't have enough time to use the new combos they added before getting attacked.. i think we all agree that lance always had a great mobility, well i really feel like i'm stuck in place now, even because the new guard dash is a garbage. And looking at the other weapons, Lance really seems "raw" (idk if it's the exact term in english, sorry ahah), we don't even have a single glow, visual effect of something cool (only the new charged counter has a light glow and nothing more), the perfect parry on Rise was really satisfyng (a bit exaggerated, but it felt so good), while now there are things like LS unleashing flying slashes, the blade glowing red and stuff like that and we don't have a single visual effect of sound effect on perfect parry? That's really a shame. Even the dmg seems low, i don't know how much low, but hunting the Rey Dau multiple times with the Lance that is my main weapon since World took me more time than using the LS at first try (and i just played it sometimes in previous games)..and the longsword it's not even the top dps now. I REALLY hope that all this is just because it was a beta, because if not it's fucking disgusting the regard they have for Lance.

@@AdrenalineElsEU I agree with you on the individual moves. Triple poke finisher, dope. Charged counter now requires timing, dope. Powered Guard new damage reflection mechanism, dope. I don't agree with perfect guard being a good replacement. it does not stand out from PG from all other guarding weapons. Does not rewards perfect guarding enough If chained into a poke, It's slower than perfect counter stance from before. If chained into a upper poke, there's no reason to use that over power guard upper poke because of power guard's damage reflection is plain better. (I've done testing if you need numbers on the specifics) Should've just left the counter stance being and put charged counter there. Charged counter being locked behind 3 pokes is crazy design for a reactive weapon anyway. Comparing it to Greatsword's offset rising slash is plain painful. (got more details on uitility & dmg comparison if needs) Also agree with you on the speed issue... Why is everything slower?! Pokes' slower, instant guard option is slower, guard dash -> leaping thrust covers shorter distance.... It's not like we Lance were ever OP!

@@RedHornSSS Yea sorry, i forgot to mention about the instant guard, for me that change is fine in terms of utility (block and continue the combo like in World), but i agree about the reward for the perfect guard is nothing different from the normal guard (except for the running counter that is situational). In World a perfect timed parry with counter thrust only has reduced push back, so it's nothing different from that, but since they reintroduced the perfect guard mechanic from in Rise, it's normal to expect something extra, like it was Cross Slash. I just hope they'll read our feedback and make the right adjustments

You can see this guy utilizing it at it's full potential: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jGXFfpaXadGqbKc With a imperfect counter he would not have been able to get that thrust out fast enough to link up the guarding advance to block both the second snowdrop and the tail poke. This guy's video really signifies why I loves World Lance. Non stop attack. All on the head. Ruthless.

In fairness, this seems to be the base Low Rank version of the weapon and Rey Dau might have the health of a High Rank monster. Not sure until the datamine comes out though.

@@TonyJenn can confirm, even when playing really well, i couldnt get below 15min with switch axe. Sword mode lacks damage, most moves do around 20damage on rey dau, in comparison SnS does around 15 (depends on moves obviously). Point is I got a better timer on my first hunt with SnS on the beta against rey dau than tryting my best with switch axe.

it was never just that. Because of Lance's low base damage we lance mains used to always do the best to put out the most amount of attack at the best hit zone. That needed non-stop attacks enabled by lance's extensive counter arsenal & intimate knowledge of the monster's animation duration. If you are specifically talking about Rise tho yeah the overbuffed the leaping thrust and that shit was a bit too much repetitive

It's not only the lance, even Greatsword or or any weapon hitting the monster when doing a normal hit and not staggering it has 0 hitstop.

Some things i've gathered playing lance... Focus mode: High thrust lets you change direction really useful while keeping the aggro on the monster. Mid thrust lets you reposition in all 4 cardinal directions. Third thrust of a combo seems to ignore whether its a mid-thrust or high-thrust, dealing max damage. Highest DPS in 1 string combo seems to be High -> sweep -> thrust -> triple poke. The lance gameplay seems to revolve around perfect parries this time around. Guard counter being locked behind your default three pokes makes it pretty hard to time. Also, i'm not sure if anyone else experienced this but I keep getting knocked out guard counter instead of countering. Whats up with that?

The Charge Counter is not an automatic counter like before. You have to time the release to the attack to get more damage.

in raise the wide charge attacks were the best to increase dps , now i am barly seeing you use any . it is because almost all lance attacks are low commItment they allowed think kind of attacks to do more damage because they require more commitment.

Dude they broke this weapon. Lance in MH Rise was the best its ever been. The speed and agility was amazing. Wilds lance sucks. They could honestly copy the moveset from rise with the speed from Rise and I'd be happy. No small quick guarded Dash that you got in Sunbreak. Guarding and top face button gave you this quick little dash that let you position while guarded and change direction. No down face button while charging the shield for counter. Super bad they didn't add this. The lance in general just feels so damn slow, cumbersome, and is a huge step back from Rise. Its not even the same weapon. I literally have over a year playtime with lance. I started playing it in the first game back on PS2 in 2004. They need to have this figured out by now. Just bring Rise lance back. Way better than this garbage. I'd love to talk/colab about how they can make this better in detail if you have the time. Send in pointers to Capcom.

The Lance leaping thrust needs way more ground. It's nigh on useless and the forwad dash sheild bash has limited utility now we get an automated one with every regular block. Other than that, I quite enjoy this rendition of Lance. I do miss the 360 pivot with R2+O though.

@ I disagree. The adept play style with anchor rage was fun, but Wilds feels a lot more like an unstoppable tank. Plus power clashes are cool af. Although I’d take Lance in any form tbh, absolutely my favorite weapon.

I hope they add proper visual effects when hitting monsters in the final game, and let people decide how much of it they want, because the gameplay looks so weak without any proper visual feedback. That poor hunter is poking styrofoam with a needle.

It's a shame that Lance is so fun in this game, but they removed so many of our old tools. No Cross Slash out of Perfect Guard feels especially bad, since it feels like it would fit right into Wilds. Also, our damage is pretty mediocre compared to Iceborne and Sunbreak. I'm hoping our MVs get a pretty decent buff going into the full release, or Lance becomes a very element focused weapon to make up for our fairly pitiful raw damage this time around.

It's a real shame that in order to get the kill times other weapons get, you have to use boulders, the new dash attack counter and the charge-counter thrust. Normal block-punish lance with Return and Payback Thrust is really lacking dmg wise. But it's my favorite way of lancing, so I'll stick with this. I still have the feeling that Payback Thrust should deal significantly more damage. It looks so powerful but its dmg is really meh...

Im so sad with this current iteration of the Lance it feels off. There’s no meat on every hit and they removed R2 + O, it feels so good in world and rise and I was excited for Wilds Lance but I am severely disappointed hopefully its all patched up when it releases.

Not a big fan of that fast triple poke/jab. It looks very repetitive, Lance is already a repetitive; albeit fun weapon. Is counter guard gone? Or locked behind the last poke?

That is sadly the default. There is no option to reduce/increase the hit feedback.

Great hunt. Quick question. Is there is specific reason you dnot use the the harged counter thrust and the follow up rush that much? I figured especially with how much damage the charged counter can do when landing the guard point that everyone would be spamming that thing, but so far i've seen few people use it.

It feels unnatural to use because most lance mains are used to being able to counter whenever they want but you can only use this one at the end of your combo so unless you know you want to use it then the triple poke does more damage than a standard counter thrust unless you parry an attack with the guard point.

from my understanding the counter on circle/b is gone and replaced with power guard, so it looks like they're trying to incentivize/reward parry lance.

Bcs even regular guard can still do counter in this lance iteration. There is no reward like we have in GU or sunbreak where the perfect guard nullifies stamina consumption and give the access to the most powerful lance move (cross slash).

I feel like a lot of people are just prematurely dismissing Wilds Lance without having taken enough time to lab out. Maybe the Lance here is indeed bad. But I certainly won't be making this judgment after having only played the demo version for barely a few hours (like most Wilds Lance critics have done). I'm gonna play with it a ton in the full game and give it an actual fair shake. Also, unlike most people, I have no love for Sunbreak's Lance. I hate it for its Leaping Thrust spam, and for its terrible post-Insta Block cross slash and its Charge Wide Sweep being antithetical to the weapon's identity as a spear-like thrusting weapon.

I came back from Steam Demo and I'm feeling kinda shit. Guard dash>leaping thrust feels like it covers significantly less ground... Power Guard punishing poke have this new pointless forward movement that i have to rectify by back hopping... Guard after poke feels slower to comeout compared to counter stance and has a significantly less crispy feeling... Theres weird interaction with focus mode that makes you change your facing unexpectedly, which's detrimental to a wespon that relies on guard... The new finishing moves after third poke is too commiting (if you have time for 3 pokes then the monster probably already recovered from whatever animation it was in so it the worst timing to perform a high commitment attack)... The only cool thing added is probably just the shield clash & a few new combo paths you can do ... I'm sad. It feels like Rise base game all over again except this time they actually took away things i enjoyed. My current take might be too sentimental but i really feels shitty. Especially after finding out they somehow removed d-pad camera controll????? Oh yeah the new lance hit sound effect and visual effect is shitty too. Although they can fix this one relatively easy

Did you minimize on-hit feedback? I only see the number i see no visual indication that you attack connected, it's like hitting air and seeing a random number that the air got hurt

That is sadly the default. There is no option to reduce/increase the hit feedback.

I like it. It does have it's flaws like the Leaping Thrust covering no distance, the Counter Thrust being locked after a combo, Perfect Guard not having the impact I would have likes and some more but I think with time and practice, Lance could be a pretty good weapon.

Can you still start guard counter from just guarding? I cant seem to make it work on mine, it goes straight to power guard. I change the keybinding on mine so maybe that affected it, or is it not available after guard now? It only work after each 3 pokes I do which kinda sucks.

Weapons: - Lance: Reintroduce the counter claw from Iceborne for enhanced defense and retaliation. Allow counterattacks or accessible always outside of committed animations and add new offensive options like 2 quick jabs (like spear)or a sweeping attack after a counter parry/block. Speed up attack animations for better responsiveness. - Light Bowgun: Incorporate an evasion mechanic similar to the wirebug counter dodge, using the clutch claw for swift repositioning. This would make it more fun i think. 2. Monsters and Environments: - Monster Difficulty: Ensure monsters are aggressive and unpredictable, similar to battles with Nergigante, Deviljho, and Lunastra. The combat experience should remain thrilling and challenging. - Environmental Challenges: Create environments that require strategic preparation, enhancing the lore and urgency of hunts. - Companion Dynamics: Balance companions like Alma and the Seikret to maintain the challenge of each encounter, preserving the heightened stakes that make hunts rewarding. 3. Endgame Content: Legendary Rank: - Challenges: Introduce a Legendary Rank with unique monsters that push skills to the limit, featuring innovative attack patterns and environmental challenges. with Low, High, Master, and Legendary Ranks, grounds a lifelong, re-playable engaging endgame content. These suggestions are partly to champion for lance, as we want to be flashy too, but overall is my observation with the beta.

@ yes they don’t need to bring the entire wirebug movesets to the bow gun, it’s just the evade counter but with claw, just like they did for the hammer.

the damage still doesn't look like it's there tbh. Why go to the trouble of doing 25 damage with a well executed and positioned counter with a lance, when you can do the same exact thing with GS for 600% more damage, and combo lead ups that also do way more damage, lol

The Lance has not so secretly always been a DPS weapon over a hit and run type, in the way you're able to consistently deal damage without pause. Whereas every weapon has their typical windows of attack, the lance completely ignores windows altogether, and rewards players for absolute aggression. Think of the way a Lance attacks as something more akin to a poison status affect. It doesn't do any large amounts of damage, but if you have a great lance player, you will not only have someone who is drawing all the aggro, but also is slowly sapping the HP from the monster while other weapon types are rolling in circles. My main problem before Rise, was that there was no real way to really punish a downed monster in the same way a Charge Blade could empty it's phials, but us Lance mains found our ways via mixing critical strikes, in with incredible attack speed to do a lot of damage over the course of a hunt. It looks like the devs are trying to remedy that in Wilds, and with the addition of new lance specific skills, my assumption is that us Lance mains are in good hands.

Yeah to second the other comment, Lance is constantly doing the smaller damage vs. one big chunk with a good opening on GS. It's doing damage while GS is having to evade or reposition to get that one big hit.
