Lance did a decent job being a Von Erich. Seems like a good guy. Glad he's doing well. I wonder if he keeps in touch with Steve Simpson, or any of the other World Class Wrestlers. Thanks for showing this.

He wasn’t in South Africa when the Von Erichs came clean about him. He was wrestling in a competing promotion in Ft. Worth as “Fabulous Lance”. I remember the promos for it. That’s why the Von Erichs had to come clean. There would have been too many questions asking why was cousin Lance wrestling in a different organization instead of with his cousins in WCCW.
@sit2go6 ай бұрын
He wasn’t living in South Africa. He said he traveled there often. Its not like Pro Wrestling was a full time job at that time unless you worked for the WWF. He could have been there for a vacation or a business trip the way he phrased it. Also Wrestling was pre taped at that time. Only PPV events like Wrestlemania was aired live. The promo you watched was probably taped weeks in advance I think it was dumb to reveal it. They could have made money with it by making it an angle. Say Lance was betraying the family. He would have been the most hated heel in Texas. If they brought Lance back and have him feud with Kevin or Kerry it would have been money. But Fritz let his emotion get to him as always. He also basically admitted that he lied to fans. He cut his nose to spite his face. The rival promotion you are talking about is Wild West Wrestling which was started by Ken Manttell who was with WCCW and left over money around that time.

I can respect him for being honest and telling the truth. He said himself he was not a fan of wrestling and never wanted to be a wrestler. And was it not Gorilla Monsoon who said about wrestling "if you are here for anything other than the money, you're a fool". Never saw rhe WCCW I am not American. I did watch documentaries about it and heard the guys talk about it. And the downfall of that whole operation from what i can tell, was due to one man only. And that was Fritz. Good shoot interview that could easily have gone for two more hours. Thank you 👍🏻
@paddydoublems9 ай бұрын
Your right. Fritz didn't want to nationalize. I think he even told the TV station in Salt Lake City that Kerry would not come to Salt Lake even though they were getting like a 12 share with World Class. I remember looking forward to it every Saturday. It was hot, and it was only natural to expand. Bill Mercer was for the idea, as was Mickey Grant, but Fritz, along with other promoters, were too married to the territorial system that died in '82. Many people may blame Vince McMahon for killing the territories outright, but in truth, they put themselves out of business.

He actually comes off respectful and not a hint of bitterness. A lot of wrestlers didn’t grow up Wrestling fans. Brock Lesnar and Dave Batista being the best example. Nothing wrong with seeing it as just a job.

I remember when the whole Lance thing came along and when he left WCCW and I can remember the reason I heard back then was he actually did go to another wrestling federation and was using the Von Erich name. Lance would know better than anyone so I'll take his word for what happened.
@sit2go6 ай бұрын
He couldn’t use the Von Erich name even if he wanted too. He would have been sued.

Von Erichs Freebirds was a great feud. 1982 to late 1985 wccw was awesome. wccw couldn't match the wwf marketing machine in the 80's. Lance was put in a tough spot to cover the Von Erichs when he wasn't a von Erich.
@clopper3753 Жыл бұрын
He also spoke of Billy Jack Haynes, which i heard was also scheduled to be a "Von Erich cousin". Aka Billy Von Erich. Do you know anything about that?
