Hey Lance the reason why the dog is walking up the stairs backwards is because he probably has arthritis in his front legs which is very painful for him to go up the stairs because my dog had the same exact thing

Geo could be doing it cause his back paws might not have the traction going up, those floors have a tendency to make dogs paws slide easily, specially if Geos nails are a bit longer like they're tapping.
