Lancia A112 Abarth. Bad sound from engine. Can I fix it?

In this video I am very proud and confident that I at long last have found the cause of the annoying "dieseling" sound from my 1050ccm Fiat Abarth engine.... Lets found out if I was right...

These engines are tappety from the get go. If you read the road tests from 70’s magazines, unusually loud tappet noises are mentioned often. The oil seal you replaced is usually totally evaporated on higher mileage engines, so people often don’t even realize it should be there. I remember my 100gl engine had the tendency to vibrate loose the rocker piano nuts, so proper nuts, torqing and thread locker is a must. I actually ended up adjusting my valves by hand and ear, when the engine was running - a bit messy, but you’ll hear when it’s just right.

Shame it wasn't an easy fix, but that oil seal needed replacing anyway, so, as always, great job! :)

Don't be discouraged...you'll find it. Success is 99% failure-Soichiro Honda Personally, I think it's either the muffler bearings, or it's low on blinker fluid. lol

Might be worth poking about with a mechanic's stethoscope (kind of like a doctor's one, but with a long probey thing instead of the round and often very cold thing) while revving to see where the noise is coming from, still does sound dieselly, and the only way I can thing to test that is feed it some higher octane fuel, like proper racing type stuff, though that stuff ain't cheap, especially right now with prices shooting up... :S

Actually I got one and have tried to pinpoint it.... In the next video it will be shown. Its 100 octane... good for Ferraris and soo on so it should be good enough for this! very expensive though... :)
