I have the 2uzfe LX470, and boy is it thirsty! In aus fuel is about $2 a litre so $200 a week to run, however, it is so comfortable and I'm at 550,000kms now with the only major component failure being the original main tank fuel pump. A part of me thinks one day I need to find a nice import Vx to combine the luxury of the LX with the 1HDFTE.

Hi Tai, I really appreciate all the work you put into your videos, I’ve learned a whole lot from your channel. I live in NZ, and I’m looking at purchasing a 5 speed FTE 100 series. In NZ people place a lot of importance/value on a car being “NZ New”, therefore imported models with lower mileage will usually go for less than NZ New examples with higher ks. I have the opportunity to purchase either a 2007 NZ market 100 with 500,000ks, or a JDM spec 2005 with 230,000ks. From what you’ve said here it seems like the motor in the JDM spec would be more desirable than NZ New? The JDM vehicle also has a fridge in the centre console which I haven’t seen before on any 100s. Its worth noting that the JDM model would still be ~10k more expensive, I’m just wondering which would be your pick. Thanks for your consideration, sorry for the wall of text lol

depends on service history , if you get one from a “ diesel lover “ that’s had 5000k oil changes the engine should have good life left . All in all , factor in that over time expect to pay for some other major failure above 450000k , it might be the auto trans & in the 5 auto they are also a bit weak when it comes to power upgrades , a good reco box say from wholesale autos that’s beefed up with a nomad valve body & deep pan will set you back around 7k ish ( plus 23 week wait time ) or a genuine Toyota new about 10000k plus 1.5k nomad valve body plus deep pan 700 odd , plus temp gauge , then add install for box & gauge , not cheap but you only want to do it once , other things like alternator , harmonic balancer , shocks for the auto height control models like ours are dear as , although Toyota got them for us much cheaper than I could . We spent about 8k labour , plus parts , to get ours at 380000k up to standard ( We are fussy & stick to genuine parts wherever possible ) , the servicing included every fluid , DBA ultimate rotors with bendix pads , full auto trans , transfer , diffs , tie rod ends . Really , the car , in my opinion has got to be in really good condition , cosmetically , rust free & good general mechanically , otherwise if something expensive does let go & your facing a steep repair bill , your are more than likely going to get rid of it . Got to be committed to it , in the long term , as these are still not cheap for 18 to 26 year old vehicles & as good as they are with an fte , they are still old & do develop major problems , especially when not serviced regularly or correctly . So if you go in too deep , you may regret the decision & wish you had of bought a new Ute or dare I say it , a y62 patrol , the 100 still drives like a truck with a ride & nvh to match , where as , say the patrol drives like a luxury car with comparatively low nvh & bucket loads more simple petrol engined horsepower , horses for courses , whichever one you go with , try & get the one that lets you sleep better at night. 😉
@barbraabsalom45317 ай бұрын
@@TAI-lr5vrIt’s more than doable , these things are still as common as dog poop in Australia , with many V8’s & fte lc100’s still lapping the country towing huge vans , some with large gvm upgrades to allow them to not only tow the 3.5t legal limit here but to also accommodate the endless list of add on accessories like front & rear steel bars with wheel carriers , jerry cans , drawer systems , air bags & onboard compressors , 12volt & 240v inverter setups that allow the use of induction cooktops & even coffee makers , all of which come with an ever increasing weight penalty & must pass rigorous & expensive privately hired engineer approvals to tick off the car as legal to tow & also carry weights in excess of what Toyota or other manufacturers ever designed the vehicle for . Some of the things needed to pass may include bigger braking systems , chassis modifications , strength & load increased suspension components among other stuff . It’s interesting your favourite lc100 is probably now the one most despised in Australia by hardcore four wheel drivers , the torsion bar independent front end is considered a big weak point , with bugger all flex in the suspension compared to a solid axle with lifts to allow for long suspension travel & “ big flex” allowing the cruiser to negotiate some of the toughest tracks in the country with mostly great success . The fte here is also widely regarded as the best Diesel engine to be released in the Australian market , so popular in fact that it gets swapped into other manufacturers cars like the g series patrols & funnily enough the earlier solid axle lc100’s & 80 series cruisers , with many buying fz105’s & not only doing a fte conversion but many a transmission conversion from auto to manual . The fte is so popular a workhorse & considered such an understressed engine the power upgrades including big to huge turbo upgrades , injector pump & injector upgrades & tuning chips ( the ecu cannot be tapped ) added for light to insane power & torque increases where the 4 or 5 speed auto would be destroyed very quickly by outputs of engine power up to 400hp & over 1000nm of torque . Pundits will pay upwards of $15000 aussie , to buy a good or low Kim fte just to start this conversion process , the fte is also favoured for these swaps over the later model & far more complex VDJ v8 diesels that are over complicated with complex induction systems , emissions crap , dpf’s etc , with the old fte achieving similar or even higher outputs than its later v8 cousins . I enjoyed your content , very informative , by the way , I wish my 2006 hdj100 5 auto Sahara ( which was top of landcruiser tree here ) came with steering wheel control buttons like the JDM versions you highlighted.

@sonnyling3830. There are a few things to consider when making the switch. When they changed the transmission they also updated the suspension by adding height control introduced adaptive variable suspension for better ride comfort. However, this came at the cost of the ruggedness of the older suspension, meaning the newer model, while more comfortable, requires more maintenance.
