Yes the fte is a nice bit of kit. I was happy with 194hp from my unopened Hz. But always wanting more. It blew a towpack r151 box at that power level, now running a h151 with a 275mm clutch. Still holding in there, despite it being 450k old.

There is something horrendously wrong with that cruiser initially. My bone stock European 2005 HDJ100 does 0-100 in 13-13.5 seconds with Maxxis 764 MT tyres and clocks around 90kW at the wheels on the dyno.

Interesting to see the air filter light come on after you had it tuned. Shows how much air its sucking in and it must be enough of a restriction to make it think the filter is blocked.

Mine just blew up at 305k, spewing. Blew on the climb after the heysen tunnels. Complete rebuild with everything new is around 20K. Wish I got a bit more warning but it came down to previous owner taking poor care of the injectors. 2 pots have 0psi haha

This is a great improvement power wise but it is going to come at a cost maintenance wise. Never miss a oil and filter change. The extra soot in the oil will increase wear. But nice power just the same. The amount of fuel being used for that power is at the top end of the air fuel ratio as evident from the smoke on acceleration. I'd be interested in a follow up video to hear what changes you have noticed to the fuel economy when driving normal. Tnx

That amount of smoke generated at after-tune doesn't seem right, especially for an FTE. Looks like it's pumping too much fuel in and putting too much stress on the motor.

That’s just foot down in power mode. It’s a high-end turbo so it doesn’t even start spooling until 2000 revs. If you kick it in the guts it’s naturally gonna have an overly rich AFR. This doesn’t happen if you bring on the acceleration slowly or under normal driving conditions

Though 600nm is pretty sick. Would be nice to know if it could keep up its output performance over 100k km or so. Great video! Thanks.

There is definitely a massive improvement, but I always struggle with the figures provided from dyno testers ? amazing with 630 k on the clock, with the mods you would have spent some $ running a safe boost with age of motor ? unless this is second engine ? 105 would have flogged it before. I think I will install a 1HDFTE to my 105 one day, after watching this 👍

The FTE’s handle boost incredibly and can handle tonnes of power. They’re so different to the 1HZs or Nissan equivalent TD42s. The piston heads are thicker, 24 valve, factory turbo, everything is just build to handle a lot more power. Would love to put an FTE in my 105 too! Making the most of the 1hzt at the moment 😂

Wasn’t easy to diagnose mate because we replaced so much at once. I’d definitely narrow it down to injectors or injector lines. They should have been replaced a lot more than they had been

Just wondering if you're running a boost compensated pump or just stock pump? If you are running a stock pump, did the tune at hpd help any over fueling or lack of fueling with boost ect?

Just the stock pump. Not actually sure what the go is with boost comp pumps in this situation mate... it’s electronic injection on the FTE’s so the ECU reads the boost pressure and should match the fuel accordingly

You’re looking at about 13k including labour. There were extras along the way for us- for instance our radiator and AC condenser were worn out and a few extras like that so it ended up being a bit more. But it’s the only money we’ve spent on this thing in 630,000km so we could justify it!

We’re putting it down to a combination of injectors and injectors lines past due of replacement, and the intercooler was stuffed as well so just a few small thing that should have been maintained earlier

@@WillsLandcruiser reason I say that is I had same issue on mine. Would just dump all power and go into limp mode. Ended up being plug on fuel pump loom that needed refurbishment. Going in for uniq chip and 76mm mod next week so this video got me slightly excited

Bit of a different video because I wasn’t actually doing the work for once! 😂 Looms seem to be the one thing that does wear out on these. I had the bosses 100 series sit at work for months and months because it was in limp mode- just a fault MAP sensor wire!

The injector system expert I used suggested that you have to repair because looms are virtually impossible to find for those older models. I couldn't see anything on terrain tamer, so I wonder if scrapyard diving is the only option

To give you a ball park figure, the parts I described amounted to upwards of $10k, the labour and any extras very much depend on the condition of the vehicle and what you’re looking at specifically. There were some surprise extras we required here like a new radiator, condensor, flywheel, few things like that on a vehicle that’s done 630XXXkm

Well looking at the dyno sheet now, the torque curve is on the downhill after 2400 revs, and peak power is around 2900. So there’s no need to accelerate past 3,000 revs. Diesels are also designed to be low revving engine. They work with big torque and there’s no need for it to be screaming

I think “ft” is “factory turbo” and then yes as far as I know the e is for electronic fuel injection. Amazing engines really!

Toyota's of that generation either had "G" type (more performance focused degrees of the valves) heads, and "F" type heads (more for economy and drivability). For example a 2JZ-GTE, versus 1HD-FTE. T meant turbo, and E for electronically fuel injected

"F" stands for four valves per cylinder. The 1HDT is two valves per cylinder

if you want to accelerate FAST, you need to rev till the end of the rom range. this is probably not below 4000 rpm. whatever people on the net call it, most have no clue, it is the WHEEL TORQUE that let's you accelerate. not engine torque! so it is times diff + times gearing. = the lower gear will always accelerate faster, even if the engine @ higher rpm has lower torque.

Also whats with all the black smoke? +70 injectors? why? they will only output what the injector pump inputs into them? How about tell the truth and tell us what was actually wrong with it before you took it in??

Yeah they know exactly what they are doing have a go at the raw unburned fuel pouring out the exhaust that's disgraceful.

Putting an engine under a lot of load really fast like we did here in these videos is always going to cause soot when you have a large amount of fuel and a big turbo with a fair delay in spool time. The soot has nothing to do with the tune, and everything to do with how we were driving it. Fact. In daily driving there isn’t a hint of soot in sight
