That 100 pound backpack reminds me of a great completely unrelated fact: the smallest USPS box weight limit is over the actual weight you could fit into the box using the densest element. The weight limit of the USPS box is 70 lbs (31.7515 kilos) but if you were to fill it with osmium it would only weigh 61.5 lbs (27.89593). So, you can ship osmium to anyone you want and be perfectly fine...the courier may not be though.
@hoilst265
@hoilst265 Жыл бұрын
Reminds me of that story of that guy who figured out how to stop credit card companies from junk-mailing him. He realised that if you stuck the post-paid reply envelope on a box, the company who sent you the envelope was on the hook for the postage of WHATEVER it was stuck to. So he filled up a box with the maximum weight the post office would accept of random junk - old tyre, paint cans, expired food, half a shoe, bricks, whatever - stuck on the envelope, and sent it back. So the company was charged like $140 or something a couple of times until they sent him an angry letter explaining what the envelopes were actually for. But they didn't stop sending him the junk. So, for one of his final boxes, he tossed in like 45 cents. They sent him another angry letter. He wrote back explaining to them there was 45c in coins he did not mean to send, and that they owed him 45c. They then sent him a cheque for 45, which he framed, and then they finally took him off the mailing list. Dunno what country it was in, but it's a great story.
@trioptimum9027
@trioptimum9027 Жыл бұрын
The courier probably would be fine: sure, it's real heavy, but it's also a smallish box, so your most likely scenario is grabbing it and it just doesn't move, and then you go back with both hands and good lifting technique. I'd worry more about equipment: it drops off a conveyor or slips off a shelf and lands corner-first, it could put a serious dent in whatever it lands on. Yes, I think too much. But also, I appreciate whoever it was that set that limit, because I suspect it's not accidental and they actually went "okay, what's that volume? How much stuff could fit? Fine, we have to have a limit but we don't care, we'll just set it to max."
@CatsT.M
@CatsT.M Жыл бұрын
@@trioptimum9027 As someone who has been told they think a lot it is completely fine. Also, I do agree that they probably did not care if it was above the physical possiblities of the box because nothing even close to that weight would ever get shipped in that small a box.

How much lead can you fit into a flat-rate box? The company I order bullets from has it down to a science. Some times it looks like the boxes were rolled end over end all the way.
@blechtic
@blechtic Жыл бұрын
If there was an actual method to deciding the limit, I suspect it was one of two things. Either they figured out how many boxes they could fit on to a transport and divided its maximum load weight by that number or they filled the box with something they thought was heavy-ish, like gravel, and then doubled that weight.

@aritakalo8011

Though I think that was the smaller and newer Patria 6x6. However as you said the cabin looks like AMV, since uses lot of the components developed for the 8x8 AMV like the cabin seats and other furniture, just in smaller 6x6 configuration. Pretty much Finnish army went "our old xa-180 series "PaSi" APCs are getting old, like 1980's vintage old. Patria, the 8x8 AMV is really nice vehicle. However we don't need everyone battle taxing in an 8x8, the 8x8 is good for IFV job, having mounted heavier weaponry and so on. However we want the budget version for general APC duties, please make this for us in cheaper 6x6 form. We shall need hundreds of them for battle taxi duties". Patria probably wanted to bring the 6x6, since it has recently gotten military orders including with Finland. So it is the "new hotness" for Patria. Including showing the new "PaSi"... or shall it now be "PaPa"? Panssari Patria? to the reservists who likely end up seeing them in their military service and rehearsal exercises soon.

If you have the space to play with it, I truly believe a kettlebell (or similar weight) is one of the best accessories for shooting / range days. Plinking is fun, but the drills you can perform with one become VERY fun, and are one of the best ways for the average person to prepare for a stressful shooting situation. Love the competition footage as always!
@t.j.e2231
@t.j.e2231 Жыл бұрын
I think shooting 3-gun / ipsc etc. competitions is one of the best ways to get used to shooting under stress. Physical exertion is a layer for sure but if your shooting is good then being out of breath or having shaky hands is only a small hinderance. I placed 12th overall in FB'23 as a fatty with no cardio. To me the precious range time is best used really focusing on your shooting and leaving all the PT outside range time.
@joshevans7175
@joshevans7175 Жыл бұрын
@@t.j.e2231 Nah man, it's not about cardio. The physical fatigue is an effective means to an end of experiencing higher degrees mental stress. Competition has stress of a sort, all performance does. However when your body is screaming and not responding despite pushing hard, your mind recedes into that small place. That space is where you want to get comfortable making shots. Ipsc and the like are cool and valuable, but with a $50 kettlebell and some grit you can get that experience every time you go out.

@@joshevans7175 Agree to disagree, or maybe I've not pushed my fat ass hard enough, who knows. I've done 3 Finnish brutalities and 2 of them have been on the RO match where we do all 10 stages in one day and do the RO stuff on the side. The shooting has always felt straight forward and "easy" and the physical part has just been very hard and demanding for me but I've never felt that it has affected my shooting in a significant way.

In FDF (when I served) the jaegers were trained to act while sleep deprivated and exhausted by long lasting ops. Being just a regular conscript, I wonder if everyone feels it easy&relaxing to keep a watchpost in -25-30 celcius. And during a drill, a stand-up vomiting in a swamp by a petty officer is just another day in service. One-two week lasting drills can be harsh, when they are a part of a service of 6-12 mts.

I loved every piece of kit you had, you really looked absolutely stellar in all of your gear, and the G3/M18 was beautiful, I have an M17 and I've been wanting to get a PTR 91 as well, so to see you kitted up really closely to some of the stuff and orientation I've got was wild. As for your performance overall, it was absolutely stellar, and inspiring. Makes me wanna get off of my young ass and get into gear. Thanks for the looks into this insane competition!

Great video!! G3 was my beautiful weapon when I served in the Portuguese Air Force 93/94!! It was also one of my dad's weapon during the colonial wars in Angola & Mozambique in the end of the 60's and beginning of the 70s. G3 is a great piece of Kit!!!👍

Those pushups looked like the longest 5 minutes of Ian's life. Considering the weight ratio in comparison to the other competitors, that extra gear was a large % increase on skinny Ian frame. Most of his upper body strength is in the goatee. 😉

These look like s much "fun." Certainly more fun than anything I did in the military. I wish there were something similar back home, I'd be attending and wondering why I ever got involved during most of it. As soon as it was over, I'd probably be ready to do it again next time. I love watching these every year.
