This song takes me back to being a small child, learning to sing this at school.
It always conjured up great images for me as I also remember the BBC TV series "Last of the Mohicans" being shown around the same time.
It always made me want to visit Canada, so I did.

I remember singing this in my first primary school when I was about 5, 50 years ago in London, England. I have never really forgotten it [the chorus that is], just that this is the first time I've searched for the song on KZbin. In fact, I searched for it after watching a video about a rescued baby beaver [named 'Justin Beaver'] building a dam out of household items on the Dodo channel. People commented that a beaver [called Justin Beaver], pulling Lacrosse sticks was about as Canadian as you could get. I notice that someone has commented below that this is more Canadian than 'Oh Canada'.

Maybe 15 years ago my Mom and Sue on a driving trip to nowhere trying to evade a forest fire in Montana... Ended up in a cheap motel, and as we got settled, I sang this song through the vent from the bathroom that reverberated into the living area. I sang it in a ghostly tone and it freaked them out.
