Greetings, former cheesehead here. I do gravel driveways professionally and share your admiration for the land plane. It is THE tool for leveling dirt and gravel. Typically it will revive a driveway with the gravel mooshed into the ground with several passes with the scarifiers deployed. I like to think the box blade is for rough grading and the land plane is for finish grading. In your case, I would have used the box blade to pull the gravel back up the hill and then finished it with the land plane.

Daniel great to hear from a former cheesehead! I agree with you 100% that the land plane is the finesse tool while the box blade is the bulldozer. Surprisingly when I use the scarifiers I'm able to drag up a volume of the gravel that has gravitated to the bottom of the driveway. Within a couple of passed I've brought up a substantial amount of gravel. It definitely would be easier with a box-blade but I'm using what I have. Thanks for watching and commenting. 👍TCT

Great show Tony, thank you. Most people think if you fill in a pothole it will be fine. That's not true, because the dirt will come back out. This machine you have will chew a pothole up (with those scarifiers and the blades will grade the road smooth behind it. This is a great piece of equipment.!!

Hello Tony. Like you, I have a 600’ gravel driveway. I use a landscape rake, box blade, and rear blade to maintain it… I see a land plane in my future! One thing I added to my tractor is top and tilt to my 3 point hitch. It is a game changer to be able to hydraulically control the top link length and also tilt the the rear implement. Makes crowning the drive very easy. I need to do a video on it and you need to add it to your tractor! Have a great week and “keep moving”. - Dick

@@TonysCoolTools 60” Grader Blade Kit, part # 303-363A-909. Land Pride is pretty proud of them though. The “kit” is 1 blade with a set of bolts. So you need 2 kits. $139.46 each. Pretty steep if you ask me but I’m glad I have them. I think they are essentially the exact same blades that came with the Land Plane that face forward.

Tip for you Sir. I suggest buying a 6’ plane for driveways because you can grade it without screwing up your crown in the road. And if the road doesn’t have a crown in it you can make one very easily. Just remember anything wider than the six foot the road needs to be wider.

Will the land plane rippers rip up stuff just as good as a box blade?
@TonysCoolTools
@TonysCoolTools Жыл бұрын
Since the 3-point hitch does not put much downward pressure the box plate has an advantage because it’s heavier (typically 500lbs or more) the land plane weighs in about 350 Lbs. To get more weight I will throw on two 80lb bags of tube sand. The kind you put in your trunk for weight in the winter. The rippers work great on both implements. Another Wisconsinite here....Didn't catch the model of tractor you're using, but in any case, do you feel like it would handle the 72" land plane?
@TonysCoolTools
@TonysCoolTools 8 ай бұрын
I have the CK4010CS which is the 40 HP. This tractor would have no problem with a 72” land plane. I chose the 60” because my driveway isn’t very wide and I have some paths that are narrower. The only issue might be if I lowered the scarifiers all the way down in hard ground it might bog the tractor. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍TCT

I have the same land plane made by LP. The thing I hate the most about it it the clips that hold the rippers. They are a PITA to remove.
