I’m in your spot. Have worked 50-70 hour weeks for over 30 years. Now I’m retired and ready to do other things. We just bought 5 acres.

Nice video! A year ago I purchased my 55 hp tractor and the dealer happened to also sell Rhino implements. Not knowing for sure if I wanted the Rhino land plane I had them price it into the package deal and took delivery. I couldn’t be happier with the 6’ land plane. This spring when the ground was soft I dropped the scarifiers and performed a thorough re-leveling of the drives. It has resulted in much improved drives without the cost of additional material.

Looks like you are a professional and I agree that it works better than a box blade.

Walsh Farms that was my first try. A lot left to do on it. Thanks.

Hi White Church Farm Outdoors - I've always wondered if a land plane is worth the money vs a back blade. Looks like you'd argue they are! We really like watching Mike and Melissa and noticed your comment on their video. We'd really appreciate if you'd give our channel a chance if you have a minute and haven't already seen it. Thanks in advance!

I have a land pride box blade and the land plane. The land plane does a better job at finishing the job. I like my blade also but I use the land plane more. 👍🏻

I don’t have a trailer to haul tractor and blade.

In my experience, you need to level it (dropping back blade) and run the scarifiers when it’s as bad as yours

I have a woods 60 inch version of this. In my experience you always want to make sure the rear blade is on the ground by adding a bit of length to the top link. Also if you have potholes you must use the scarifiers to cut to the bottom of them or you are basically wasting your time filling the holes because you are in essence putting gravel on top of concrete! I’d drop the scarifiers and do the entire driveway imo

I have since used the scarifiers on some pot holes. Works perfect. I noticed in my video that I didn’t quite have it level. It does make a difference as you stated...thanks for the comments.

Sounds like you retired about 6 months before I did. Those land planes to a nice job for sure, and it doesn’t seem to take such a fine touch on your height control to do a good job. All I have is a rear scraper blade for our driveway, which is about 500 yards long and crosses a ravine. The steeper hill is the worst part. I can wrangle the road into some semblance of shape, but it is a lot more work. Mine is too light (unlike the Big Rhino blade we had back when I was a kid, which was probably 2-3x heavier), so I’m going to build a couple of ballast boxes to ride on it. If I add 200-300 lbs, I think it will work much better. I’ll have better traction too. Take care!

I love that land plane. I have a little work I need to right now with it. Ever since the 2017 flood, it’s been a mess around here. I have a rear scraper also. It’s way more aggressive.

I don’t have an adjustable top link (old and rusted!), but I understand people shorten the top link to put the angle of cut more nearly vertical to lessen the aggression. When I want a light touch to finish, I spin the blade around and pull it backwards. I’ve not totally figured out the draft control, but there should be a way for the lift arms to keep it from digging in using the draft control. And mine is really light, so is unlikely to ever be very aggressive.

I am looking at buying one are you still happy with it?

It works awesome..I’ll always use it over a regular box blade

how much better is it than a box blade
@whitechurchfarm4 жыл бұрын
Katyhillfarmer it is so much better than a box blade when it comes to smoothing/grading and filling in holes. My land pride box blade pulls about half of my gravel/chat to the end of the driveway when I use it. The grader blade breaks it up with the first blade and smooths with the second blade. Well worth the money. It has scarifiers also.

Thank for the reply I might just have to try one

The best way to think about it is: box blade when you need to MOVE stuff, and land plane/grader/scraper when you need to SMOOTH stuff. It's like the difference between 60 grit sandpaper and 100 grit sandpaper.

Find a way to add weight to the blade and you will have better results sooner. Or at least it did for me. Good luck
