How to remove the flange spigot on the 300tdi rear axle. Reverting back to a hard prop'shaft for the 300tdi Discovery or fitting a 300tdi rear axle diff to another vehicle. The best option is to use the kit supplied by Paddock SCT4858 which provides a 4 bolt fixing.

Did this myself and found the Dust shield was impacting the housing and wouldn't turn. Beat the shield off and thinned it down some on a grinder to clear. Then rest went together smoothly and seemed to measure just a tad more preload 0.75nm went to 1.0nm (I assume and hope from the new seal). This was with axles and wheels on. I checked the preload within the gear lash. Think 2 degree turns left and right it's a little loose, thats the preload area I tested before and after. Hope this helps someone, and check your dust shields on assy!

spigot might have had too much thread lock on it. Give it a good whack once on the top then try again. Spigot can be reused if not worn or damaged.

Plan on doing the front and rear pinion seals on my TD5 90, do I need to count the turns to loosen the main nut/bolt to ensure the preload is correct on the bearing?

Tried holding the flange with the 2x M8's. They bent 90 degrees before it torqued up

whining is the pinion and crown wheel not meshing properly. Is it whining on overdrive? ( when you take your foot off the accelerator)?

Hello regarding the nut at 3:07, it is incredibly tight and i am unable to actually crack it. I have tried rattle guns, breaker bars anything and everyhing. I am working under my landrover. Is it meant to be this tight?

there is a better way to get the axel out off the flange i had no way to get it mowing with a bolt i used a M8 grease conector and the grease gun to push it out with the grease that worked good.

Chris, do you know what the part number is for the washer used when fitting this? I'm building up a diff with a 4 bolt flange but the washer I bought that I thought was correct (FTC5413) doesn't fit. Cheers.

Yes, it should be. There are not any flanges to choose from in that type of Land Rover range final drives.

Hi there, I am sticking a discovery axle on my 90 and I was planning on swapping the the flange from the drum braked axle over onto the discovery one as its a 3 bolt type and I need a 4 bolt flange for my props, but I have just discovered that the flange on the disco axle is held on with a bolt and not a nut . Will this kit work with bolt type flange ? Hope this makes sense

They are different differential set up. Not the same.

Yep. the Discovery axles fit to the Defender. It is the rear is especially popular to get disc brakes to the rear on a 90. However i would not recommend a 110 having the disco rear axle as it is rated lower on axle weight and the amount you can carry or tow will be effected.

Ok, thanks a lot, i have a 90 so it'll be fine, just making sure all prop and trailing arms will fit correctly, the only difference i noticed was the 300 had brackets for anti roll bar were as i have extreme suspension on the back s no roll bar needed :D

there is a kit for Anti roll but yeah you won't need it if you want axle articulation. Good luck with it.

Depends what your are doing with the 90. If you haven't fitted a lifted suspension kit on it a standard prop' shaft is fine. They need to be greased regularly BTW.

Yes plenty of alternatives. I get mine made up specially by a commercial vehicle prop shaft reconditioner. I say what the distance is between the 2 flanges then supply an over length prop' shaft for them to cut down re - weld and then balance.

The Difference you will find is that when doing a conversion. 1. The R380 and LT77 gearboxes are different lengths 2. and also depending on where you position your engine, either forward or close to the bulk head will also effect the distances between the axle flanges and transfer box output flanges.
