Put in the key in the ignition, tried to start and nothing. Battery voltage is good, no M+S lights flashing and all gears showing (see other XYZ switch video for that problem). The relay is working, and power from the relay is getting to the starter solenoid control wire.
The TD5 has a common problem with its starter motor, the solenoid which controls the plunger has two copper flat parts and the plunger itself a copper ring and overtime due to use the copper becomes pitted and stepped on the terminal parts leading to a no start, crank or turn over issue which I noticed was worse in damp/cold weather. The quick fix for us was to purchase a new DENSO starter motor from, it was from JGS4X4 who I have dealt with several times and always had a great experienced with so check them out via the link below, there's a few starter motors available and also a repair kit for the solenoid (£15) I choose the DENSO (£150+) which was the same brand as what came off the car and had lasted 20 years! Pricing is November 2022, it may change.

Useful things to check, thank you. My starter motor works, I've bypassed it and put a button in the cab. But with everything connected as standard, it immediately blows the 100 amp fuse.

Yes, two people make removal of that top nut a lot easier, so with only myself, there is a second way. You gain access through the side skirting. The bottom two 14mm bolts and the electrical wire/nut are a dawdle from underneath BUT try as I might, you just can't line up a socket with a bar on your own, well I couldn't. I tried just the extension then tried to fit the square drive on the extension. Just impossible. After I got my hand onto the top nut via a gap in the side skirting I decided to remove the area just above where the brake pipe exits into the wheel area and terminates onto the flexible pipe mounting. I cut out the skirting mostly with metal shears and left a lip on the brake pipe mounting to allow it to be rivetted back on. Yes, it's more work to re-rivet the cut skirt back on but with it re-undersealed, it looks in better shape than it has for a while.

Definitely dont need 2 people for refitting the top bolt thow the right size extension is very important and makes the job a lot easier Iv removed mine 3 times now 2 of them were temporary fixes to get going on the side of the road again

So frustrating when you check the relay. Your camera is all over the place and you can't see what output wire from the relay you're connecting the test set too.

I know this part wasn't too good, trying to do too much at once but to clarify the starter motor relay wire is the brown+red line with a brown plug that's in front of the light grey plug then the relay that controls that wire is the second large yellow relay from the right hope that clears it up let me know if you have any more questions

I have similar problem, but I think my issue is xyz switch side of crank process and it’s intermittent so difficult to diagnose (probably xyz switch, I get p1843 and p0705 faults). When it happens I simply bypass the inhibitor (xyz) side by jump starting from starter motor signal wire (mention in vid) to positive battery with key in pos 2. I believe this is also a quick way to verify your starter motor side is working fine?

is the relay clicking? and if it is do you have 12v+ on signal wire after as in the video?

@@DJPS-ih8cy if the above checks out, make sure you have voltage at the end of that signal wire on the starter motor spade connector it could just broken or dirty (contact cleaner works well to clean)
